Out of Time

The year was 2253.  The Earth was at war.  The governments on the planet had united into a single federation and the populace of the planet stood with a single goal - survival.  Humans, who are exceedingly talented at cruelty and warfare put aside their differences and worked together to defeat a common foe.  Scientific taboos were tossed to the wayside in order to help mankind win the war.  Victory was the only option.
