Description

Carter was having a bad day. For a moment, he thought he'd finally earned his way into the easy life. He'd saved up enough for his own ship and finally got a good-paying transport job, but then the pirates struck. The good news is they didn't kill him. The bad news is he was left drifting through space in a tiny escape pod and was rapidly running out of supplies. That was when another ship appeared on his scanner. It was the Sybil, the most notorious Ghost Ship in the galaxy, nearly forgotten in ages past. He had one choice: go aboard and face almost certain death, or stay in his pod and slowly starve to death. It was time to find out what cruel new jokes fate had in store for him...

This is one of those rare cases of me doing a Review without some witty joke in the beginning, but really, this story is too good for a joke (also, I couldn't come up with one in ten minutes, so I just gave up).
Now, let us begin: this is the story of a very unlucky man being hit by the mallet that is Murphy's Law and ending up on a centuries old ghost ship in space. Apparently there are also ghosts on said ghost ship, and they're sadistic motherfuckers who enjoy scaring people and killing them in most horrible ways. Truly, he won the lottery. Luckily for him the man manages to impress the ghosts and now they want him as captain of their ship. Shenanigans ensue.
You saying this short description doesn't explain much? Well, what did you expect? This is a review! I want to keep it as spoiler free as I can!
Now, let's talk style: the writing is simple and to the point, not overly descriptive and very light, something that many people would consider a bad idea but this story manages to pull off very well.
The characters are all 10 out of 10, from the ghosts to our protagonist to the main side characters to even those one-off people who appear only for a chapter at most. They're alive in a way I cannot convey through mere words, and that's really all you need to know to understand just how great they are.
As for the grammar, nothing to say, the story is well written and there's only the occasional typo that most people will overlook.
All in all, this is a great story, you should most definitely read it!!!

I won't be able to read any further but that is no fault of the author! Honestly too much on my plate story wise (reading like 4 other stories here plus 100s of manga/webtoons/etc) and this one is just shy of taking the place of something else, don't have the time or bandwidth to invest more yanno?
But Sybil and her dynamic is *interesting* and I wanna know more about them, you touch on "The Girl" in this book so I assume you'd hit Vixen and Long John later.
I will admit I dont/didn't care for Alen and the rest, and them becoming their own crew kinda cemented the decision to stop at book one.

I just don’t have the patience for it so I’ll drop it here. But it’s by no means a bad story.
From the very beginning the story is split on 2 different POVs. When the POV is first introduced, the story implies it was a flashback. So I just skipped it, but it turns out it’s happening real time and eventually they interact with each other. It kinda took me by surprise.
There’s just not as much mystery or action as I was expecting.
