This is a well written urban fantasy. The main character is a teenager and definitely feels like one. You're never quite sure who the enemy is until the end ... and the answer probably is that Ethan needs to be cautious of all of them.
This is written like the first book in a series, but the story in this book IS complete at the end.

I'm really enjoying this book. it is just as the description says: Buffy in an english setting. At least in tone and characters. The main character is a 16 yo boy, so don't expect great feats of courage and/or cunning. He is very believable and quite a treat to follow along. The lore surrounding the supernatural world is well designed and makes all legends/mythologies quite possible so the future is looking very interesting.
The rest of the cast is also interesting, from the brainy friend to the boss of a governemental military institution. There is intrigue, jokes, teens being in way over their head, monsters (friendly and not), teenage angst (a little bit) and adults that seem blind to all but their goals!
So if you're in the need for a lighter (so far) urban fantasy go for it!
