Spoiler: Spoiler
I was really surprised when I see an author with a good writing style dare to include stuff related to a religion but it was actually a joke LOL.
Nice work...
Hope you can keep up the quality.
Still cant rate due to only 1 chapter - Oslur (D. M. BandiC)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Numb - As of Chapter 5 -
Overall -
This is an enjoyable read. The first chapter was a quiet hook that easied my way to a blast in the next chapter; doing its job flawlessly. Now all I can think about in the story will be how the Mc keeps going when so much had become wrong so fast.
Style -
The author does well to show, as of the later chapters, instead of tell. Makes the read much better and helps build a great narrative.
Story - Character -
Like I said already, the first chapter was the hook and the next was (me the fish) when i was thrown out of the water and to land. Flopping all over the place trying to find out what happened.
Grammar -
There are mistakes and a few tense issues, but overall, he does well with a first person narrative. Even though he isnt an english first as a language, he is able to convey great emotion and feeling.
Heart Strings Have Been Tugged! - Sociable HermitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Review as of Arc 2, Chapter 11
Don't let the average rating fool you: Numb is good, really good. It is a story about revenge at its core, with some great action scenes and lots of greek mythology for good measure. In fact, to me it feels like the story's obvious, superficial flaws led many readers to give it bad ratings upon a cynical, shallow viewing. Anyways, enough about my own shallow assumptions, let's do the review thing:
Style: The style, for the most part, is really nice. English isn't the authors first language, but most of the story still flows really well, with some particularly great sections mixed in. For me, the style section only avoids a perfect score because every now and then, some sentences are a bit clunky.
Story: At its core, Numb is a tale of revenge, and that theme threads through the entirety of the story, even in calmer or funner moments. Act 1 is at first depressing, and then cathartic, as the MC goes on a John Wick-like murder spree. The second act is a lot funner, and a lot more fantastical. Although this constitutes a pretty dramatic shift in tone, the consistent theme still manages to hold the story together really well. Very impressed with this one, and intrigued where the author will go to next. Ah, sometimes the pacing seems a bit hectic though, as we rush from one scene to the next. That's more down to my personal preference for slower paced stories though.
Grammar (Gramer): Unfortunately, this is where the obvious flaws come in. The grammar is... not good. It gets a lot better in more recent chapters, but there are still a lot of the same, obvious mistakes (e.g. frequently missing an s at the end of words). This really shouldn't be a huge deal though, as the rest of the novel is a great read. If you're too bothered by the grammar to read on, you could always just offer to proofread for the author, or leave a comment and point out mistakes.
Characters: Overall, I quite liked most of the characters, as far as I've seen them. Especial - TemporalandReatyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Numb as of Arc: 2 [Chapter 7]
So far it has been a very interesting and entertaining read. I didn't stop at all between chapter 1 and now. I'm wondering what all is happening for arc 2. I have some guesses but it'll be very Interesting to see how it turns out.
On a differing note, The Numbness of your character is very relatable for me. It's interesting how exactly he reacted to becoming that way. - TernidoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I head a really good time with this. The character is bland but he is unfeeling so its ok. This coud be a move. A bit of fan art, some submitted art, a bit more back story and beter descriptions and you have a killer book.
- Iori AngelRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story is good, the grammar is clunky at best but it siedid detract from the tale Zombie spun. The action, revenge things is my thing. Arc 2 made me think I was reading a completely different story though. But I understand why and how it was done. The MC's past life defined what he would be in his new one as a chosen of the goddess of vengeance.
I would ask for someone to help zombie edit, it's a story that deserve to be read! - SaphyronRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The sentence structure, and grammar issues which come from one not fluent or above average in the English language does peek out, and it feels odd to read the story.
- CasarollChickenRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The fiction is good....but a huge downside is the grammatical errors (For me at least). I've been reading books for years, some good some bad, so my eyes might focus more on the slight grammatical errors.
So please, give the story a try and see for yourself before basing your opinions on this review.
