Description
Vree liked his humans. They were kind, clever, and tended to be adorable, in the way that a small, particularly spiny cub was adorable right before it bit you.
Of course, small adorable cubs usually couldn’t shapeshift or burst into flame whenever it suited them.
Tusca hired a teenager on a whim, and a doctor because they were old friends. Unfortunately, nothing is ever simple when a Red Baron is at the helm.

- KathrynGatesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read a lot of No Moon on the bus, back in pre-COVID life when bus rides were a thing. The characters are snappy, witty, and have a fun dynamic! I love exploring the wide & rich story universe through them. So many speculative elements in one story; it's jam packed and a lot of fun!
- petercoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overal, it was nice. It's been some time since I finished reading it, but I recall it being mostly simple fun. I recall some darker and tenser moments, but I don't think the opportunities for (philisophical) depth were utilised very much. I didn't really expect those opportunities to be there in the first place, so I can hardly mark the story down for it ;)
The world build by this selection of stories is different enough from other things I've read to feel fresh, which is a big plus.
However, This felt more like a selection of stories that happen to feature recurring characters than a coherent story arc. Some mini-arcs were multiple chapters, and It wasn't always clear when a mini-arc was finished, which resulted in some disorientating time jumps. I feel this is the biggest flaw in this work.
At the end, it didn't really feel like the story had ended. There could have been a few fewer mini-arcs or a few more, and the result would have been the same. I do understand this work had to end. A proper epilogue with some broad outlines of (some of) the events of the next century would have been nice though. - Examples From HistoryRoyal Road★★★ 3.0So this is a series of vignettes of magical space humans, not bad but lacking substance.
You know those pulled pork sandwiches that are mostly barbeque sauce? It's like that, and the sauce isn't fantastic or anything.
What I'm trying to say is that this is the word equivalent of a gas station pulled pork microwave sandwich. It'll hold you over until you can get something good to eat.
