No Longer Human (Goddess of Victory: Nikke SI)
Community Rating
Description
Hell. This is the world I find myself in. They call it the Ark, a place of humanity's refuge from the Raptures that have claimed the surface. A paradise sanctuary, where mankind can survive and reclaim the surface. Even for humanity, that is a lie, as thousands live in squaller in the Out Rim, and everywhere else, the Central Government rules, grinding away humanity in an unending war to reclaim what was lost. Worst of all is the treatment of Nikke's, the Goddesses of Victory. Human-like machines, piloted by the brains of girls and young women, are the only ones that can fight Raptures and have a chance of coming out alive. Despite them sacrificing themselves for humanity, they are treated like second-class citizens, hated by the general public, and used as scapegoats. All the while their Commanding officers, whom a Nikke cannot disobey, treat them as nothing more than expendable weapons and tools, throwing away resources into a meat grinder that the Ark can scarcely afford. This is the world I find myself in. One where my very humanity is denied. Where I'm forced to do a job I never wanted, putting my life on the line for people who hate me. In a world where the last bell of hope has already rung.

- Madison TracsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It has been a long while since ive read a fanfiction that has not had the MC be someone who has prior knowledge of the universe they’ve been put into and I must say that your story has done a masterful job of doing so. From beginning to end it it felt very authentic and just overall a great read. I can’t wait for more chapters to be released. <3
- KetchupSplatterSpecialistRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have never played NIKKE, but I found this fanfiction to be both fun and immersive. It doesn't try to explain away illogical aspects of the world, but rather uses them as fuel to feed the protagonist's sense of fury and indignation. The plot is intriguing, the characters are lively, and the only criticism for the story so far (beyond characterization, thematic ideas, and plotline, but they're highly subjective and I found them plenty fine) is the grammar.
Speaking of which to get it out of the way, it seems that the author uses a spell checker, since I didn't notice any misspelled words, but not a grammar engine like Grammerly. The writing seems to be written either by someone whose native language isn't English or someone typing incredibly fast and uncaring of sentence structure or readability. If the author reads this, I would recommend using Google Docs if you don't mind suspicious mega-corporation shenanigans. They might be pirating your stuff to feed their baby AI (this is an entirely theoretical and unsubstantiated claim that shouldn't be taken as a serious accusation. Please don't hurt me Daddy Google), but it's free and tries to fix all of those pesky sentence structure issues...
Just keep in mind that it isn't always right sometimes... It doesn't always recognize some sentence structures that are uncommon but perfectly valid.
Back to the review, the style is fine, especially since I enjoyed the story, but isn't perfectly refined. And by style, I mean writing style. The writing seems like that of a rookie webnovelist... Which, is to be expected since most webnovelists are. But, specifically, there were some paragraphs and scenes that felt repetitive. The protagonist sometimes rambled about things that frustrated them over again and perspective shifts to other characters sometimes repeated scenes that the author already told from the protagonist's perspective. As the author gains more experience, I'm sure that the story will improve. But right now, it feels - darkrikeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5would recommend to try it.
its about a guy who wakes up in a Nikke (female war machine), and needs to adapt
The writing is fine. And the story has potential. While at the same time it’s developing the source material.
so try it.
The only problem comes from the perspective always being first person. And the story is mostly developed from the inner monologue of the characters. So comment, thoughts, ideas, observations. Whit little action to show for it.
add in a sensitive topic that has no rum in a post apocalyptic and a desperate depressed main character, things begin to drag.
.
it works and is finne. So try it
