Description
A second life in a game world he thought he knew. John Hale spent years mastering Elder Veilfall, a brutally difficult open-world fantasy game. When his ceiling kills him, he wakes up inside the game. At the exact moment everything starts going wrong. With muscle memory from thousands of no-hit speedruns and an encyclopedic understanding of a world that shouldn't exist, John must fight an apocalypse that's happening ahead of schedule. Except this time there are no continues, no save points, and no respawns.

- JolligreenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Super fun story, extremely creative and well crafted, well edited, well written. It starts fairly mundane, but quickly becomes quite the rollicking adventure. The MC is speedrunning through so much of the world that the non-MC characters haven't really had much chance to develop yet, so there's that. But it's a great binge read, and worthy of slower re-reads for all the texture and flavor within the writing - lovely descriptions, lots of details, nicely put together and not stilted like a lot of gamelit can be.I saw this on a few shout-outs, was dubious at first, but as the 5 star review implies, I'm a fan!
- 13torchesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like these kinds of stories, and I especially like it when they are executed well. And here we have one being executed well. Our hero, an everyman personality with crippling over specialization is thrust into the world where he can excel. And it is awesome! We have everything we need for an epic tale. Skills, mystery, monsters, maidens, awesome mounts, magicians, and one of my favorites, a system that lends itself to the story without overpowering it.I really look forward to where our author takes us. This is worth a follow and a favorite. See you at the next chapter!
- AutumnLeavesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is fascinating and draws you in. The people are engaging and become favorites before you even realize it. There's a good dollop of comedy to spice things up when they get too serious.
The author is particularly skilled at character development, personal and interpersonal reactions, and world building. Lots of detail without distracting from the progression of the storyline. Their writing is clear and easy to follow.
I hope you take a chance and enjoy this story, too! - CiainaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Simply good. Refreshing to see good people in position of power actually using that power with impunity and a set jaw to do good things. Usually there are complications to create drama, or political annoyances. Not here, if they need to they go full backbreaker.
Fun main character, fun characters, interesting "souls like' approach - ClesherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Let me repeat myself: it’s surprisingly good. Totally worth reading if you’re interested in the ‘No Hit’ part. The writing is really good, too. It never drags; something is always happening and changing. The MC actually tries to avoid getting hit by enemies; the story has a Dark Souls vibe; and the secondary characters are pretty pleasant.
- DWWRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Super fun, well written and seems to have had an edit pass. No typos or spelling errors that I've spotten..Interesting story, not unique in premis but very well done anyway.Author even makes you, and the MC care about the NPCs.World building is great, manages the balance well between a veteran gamer who knows the flavor text and how to explain the world to the reader.Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see where you take it.
- Doomed BobbyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As the title says, its better than I expected it to be. I almost didn't start reading it because I don't care for stories where the MC is overpowered. But it is done really well in this one. The story has enough going on it keeps things moving and not boring. It's not the greatest story ever wrote, but it is better than most and well worth the read so give it a try. I'm glad I did
- HughgentRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Oh man it's good.
This is hitting me in a sweet spot. I like speedruns, I like video games, and I particularly like these pseudo regression style stories.
What I see when I'm reading is a dedicated player. The way they are talking, the slang if you will, is basically perfect for the protagonist.
As the premise states, person from the real world gets thrown in the video game. They are going through it in a manner of someone basically doing a challenge run. I can feel the 'I know what is going to happen' in pretty much every line as the protagonist makes their way through.
I kind of wish there were slightly more allusion to the differences between what the protagonist is seeing and what a video game would have done. Essentially a little mental whiplash of entering a building and not encountering a shop menu. Or 'this was supposed to be a speech menu choice' before being loaded into another map, and then having difficulty actually navigating to the next piece of content. A programmer wouldn't have done a no loading zone kind of game when there could have been an easy transition to save on system memory.
But yes, this is good. Looking forward to more. - JiceaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve only read the first 2 chapters but they are absolutely epic! Great prose, awesome action, and a funny chat at the start. The world seems souls like with its own variation and twist.
Very excited, to dive back in, and really get into the meat of the story! Awesome - Lurker LuuuurkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is just... satisfying. At first I thought this was going to be another RR template. I mean why write fiction where after your done reading you just feel confused. What's the point of writing an MC that's just #IsDifferentSoIsGood40569 ?
And it starts out pretty rough. Though Still kinda fun. But needing some suspension of disbelief. And maybe it's just a fluke.
But now ? Now It's got soul baby ! Which is hilarious. Because most fictions on this site read like they were written by the same person. But this one is Assisted and reads like somebody actually wrote it, instead of copy pasting wiki articles 😂
Man. I'm gonna have to add this with the top fictions on this site !
