- Bookman9Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Character: In this thrilling tale, Howl takes center stage as our capable protagonist, albeit a little brash, whose interactions with the Yenza provide the perfect blend of camaraderie and banter. I can't help but speculate how their dynamic will evolve as they mature and grow. Purgus, with his own complex set of ideologies, adds depth to the narrative, I wonder whether he'll ever reconcile the bloody history that haunts him, paving the way for a brighter future.
Style: There's a diverse array of systems and martial arts showcased throughout the story enriches the world-building and adds layers to the characters' development. Aside from flashy combat moves; the action sequences are vividly depicted. There are no info dumps that detract the reader from the main plot, which is a plus in my book.
Story: Amidst the backdrop of political tension between Celeston and the Neospacians, the stakes are high, and every maneuver carries weight. At the heart of it all is Howl himself—cocky, cheeky, yet undeniably capable. His presence drives the narrative forward, keeping me engaged and invested in his journey. I want to see him grow up to be a capable leader.
Grammar: There are no mistakes as far as the eye can see. It's perfect.
Overall it is a great read that leaves you wanting for how the characters are going to react to political development in the future of ruling. - OmegareavenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: Nebula Wars delivers an immersive and gripping experience, keeping readers engaged from start to finish. It's full of characters that have ideas they are striving for in a completed story arc. Read this story if you're a fan of Adventure in an intergalactic setting.
Style: The writing style in Nebula Wars is engaging and descriptive, making it easy to visualize the action-packed scenes and connect with the characters on a deeper level. I also always respect people who can write about politics in their stories so well, which this story does. Yet, I didn't feel overwhelmed, like it was the only focus.
Story: The story delves deep into family dynamics and the complexities of power, and I found myself looking forward to the next chapter to see what happens next. The downside to this, of course, is that, like all books with politics, you're going to have those characters you don't like and others you hope to succeed. I would say it has a GoT feel to it, as there is a reason for everything in the background.
Character: The characters in Nebula Wars are well-developed and relatable, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. I found myself rooting for some while hating others. A sign on complex characters.
Grammar: While there are occasional minor grammatical errors, they don't detract from the overall reading experience. The writing is clear and easy to follow, allowing readers to immerse themselves fully in the story. - Pianos In The Evening SunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Imagine an old school space anime combined with the race and class politics of a Tales of JRPG and you have Nebula Wars!
Young Howl is an impulsive and braggart ruler who is crowned only when he was ten! And much like the young Avatar, he has "a lot to learn" about ruling and sensitivity towards others who are lower classes then him. I think this is handled really well in the first eight chapters. Because even though he is clearly not a good ruler, it is merely do to his age and lack of experience. He will surely grow and come of age after the time skip!
The writer shows sympathy to his adversary from the lower class, young Purgus who does not approve of his decisions and even has another young socialite, Wendy who shows sympathy towards him and his walk of life.
I found this drama very well rounded and thoughtful the way Tales of does with their class conflicts.
Nebula Wars is my first ruling class story I have read on RR, but I am enjoying it immensely! - keeganashleyliveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is unlike anything I’ve read recently, but I mean that in a good way. It is third person, present tense which already makes it stand apart from the crowd due to that, but there’s just this overarching innocent-like, loyalty-driven, epic fantasy vibe about this story that nearly makes it seem like it should be an anime movie or something. I’m, honestly, struggling to explain it as I write this. It has a child-like, imagination feel—like how you’d make up stores when you were younger. It’s a different vibe which makes it really unique. The action and the tension are there, but everything feels so “one for all” and “justice” oriented, “right vs. wrong”. …Frankly, it was a different, fresh breath of air.
The style of writing was good with no grammatical errors or blunders that stopped my enjoyment of reading. The font is pink currently (as I’m reviewing it), so if that might be a detriment to you I think you can actually change it in reader view settings, though don’t ask me how. I get what the author was trying to do with the pink font though—it’s playful and light like the feeling of the story. I ‘followed’ the story. I think it’s fun and magical. Nice work, author. - RokoRaspberryRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is definitely an interesting one! I can’t say I like all the characters, but I think that’s the point! The author presents a cool view of the internal politics of a royal family – and they are all a little stuck up.
Style: Some people might like the narrative voice here. It consistently pulls you into the world and gives you a particular flavor. I actually can’t put my finger on it – maybe anime? Jojo? Not sure. The pink font amplifies that a little but can also be a little distracting. As for narration, the story is told well, but some tweaks to smoothen out the flow might help!
Grammar: I usually don’t drop immersion easily from grammar mistakes. If there were some, I probably missed them.
Story: The story is driven by characters and their interactions so far, which is great. I’m a fan of that. However, there is quite a bit to unpack for the plot and worldbuilding, and it’s not always immediately handed out. While I do like this drip feed approach, sometimes key elements feel like they are left to the wayside and could be explained more.
Characters: Characters are very interesting and distinctive, and as I mentioned, some of them you start disliking. I like that about the author’s approach so far. There are some you like and some you don’t. However, it is definitely a little too early for me to form any real conclusions here about development, but they do feel a little caricatured so far in their speech and actions. - SilvarRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Good morning! I would like to start this review by saying this story is quite well thought out and I enjoyed myself hating 1/2 the characters lol. The author has set up the story to revolve around the political machinations of a powerful royal space family. Most of said family are arrogant, pompous, and all around nastily behaved. Like the title of my review states... i love to hate them. My dislike for them really drove home my love for Wendy in this story and I found myself rooting for ever at every turn.
The book had a few rough patches with the repetitive use of some words here and there but nothing grammatically damning enough to draw you out of the story as you read it.
My one big gripe would have to be how large plot pieces and powers are presented to the reader and are intriguing and interesting but do not get explained quick enough. I found myself waiting to find out who or what something was for longer than was comfortable during the read.
That being said it does get addressed and all is well in the kingdom once again! The book has been a joy to read so far and i will be finishing it and keep up with the author as they delve deeper into the NEOverse!!!! - Elliot MoorsRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Nebula Wars features a lot of political intrigue involving superpowered characters. A great deal of effort has clearly gone into the worldbuilding, which I always love to see, and there is a power system at play here that I feel also has the potential to be very deep.
The grammar is good; I only spotted a few mistakes here and there. The story has a tone similar to a battle manga in terms of powers, character descriptions, and dialogue. It's got a pretty serious vibe, which meshes well with the political focus.
It's a pretty character-focused story up to what I've read, with character motivations serving as the driving force for the plot, which is definitely my preferred method as a reader. Since it focuses on politics and royalty, a lot of familial ties are explored with overarching feuds between factions. I don't want to compare it to GOT, because it has a different tone and I'm assuming a different target audience as well, but it's the only direct comparison I can think of for the family-focused character dynamics here.
Nebula Wars seems like it's going to be a long, detailed story perfect for binging. I say check this out if you're into sci fi, political intrigue, and battle shonen. - SuitoinRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The world of Nebula Wars needs a very abstruse at first, but once you get a grasp you'll never want to let go.
Style 4/5
The writing style was easy to understand, and the third-person omnipotent view allowed me to see the world's characters with fine detail. The pacing around the first chapter was confusing, with the many characters and plot being trudged in. However, if you stick around you'll find some things fitting into the bigger picture.
Story 4/5
The plot can be daunting at first, however, the characters introduced with different perspectives make up for it in the end. I found it interesting that the Neos-ian landmarks were described in great detail. The grand throne rooms, training arenas, and even temples are specified with great imagery.
Sometimes I found that the PoV did more work for characters and conflicts than the aspects themselves (such as describing characters in great detail without allowing me to come to conclusions myself). One of the best examples I can find is that Howl, presented as someone egotistical and overconfident in the first few chapters, reflects on his time training at a temple — which is a calm thought I didn't expect from the way the author wrote them at first.
Just be mindful to not let your thoughts on characters intrude onto the thoughts of your readers too much, and allow them to enjoy the book at their own speed.
Grammar 4.5/5
No over glaring mistakes. There are some sentence structuring that could be done better to improve dialogue flow but that comes as the author finds their writing style.
Character 4/5
Like any fantasy novel, there is an allotment of characters to choose from. We met a plethora of them in the first chapter (perhaps my only gripe with this book) but they all seem interesting. One thing I will admit is that they all apply to how the PoV describes them, but that could make some of their actions or dialogue predictable.
It was hard to read some of the dialogue as it all seemed... cliche and plain. For instanc - V.K ShahRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is the first Sci-Fi novel I've read on royal road and I have to say it was really enjoyable!
Story:
The chapter offers an enthralling storyline filled with political intrigue, familial drama, and mysterious characters. The tension builds steadily throughout, keeping the reader hooked and eager to uncover the secrets hidden within the Neo Space kingdom. I really enjoyed the fight sequence in the first chapter
Style:
The writing style is engaging and descriptive, painting a vivid picture of the Neo Space setting and the characters within it. The author effectively creates tension and intrigue, drawing the reader deeper into the narrative with each passing scene. My only criticism would be that the way exposition is handled in the opening chapter could be better integrated into the story, as many readers might skip over the several paragraphs of character introductions
Grammar
The chapter is impeccably written with no noticeable grammar errors. The sentences are well-structured, and punctuation is used effectively to enhance readability.
Characters
The characters are well-rounded and engaging, each with their own unique personalities and motivations. Wendy, Kolra, and Kayo are particularly well-developed, with distinct traits and interesting arcs that drive the narrative forward.
Overall: 4.5 Rating
While there are minor areas for improvement in terms of pacing and plot development, the book overall is a highly enjoyable read that will leave readers eagerly expecting the next installment in the series. If you're considering it, and enjoy reading Sci-Fi, definitely give this one a try!
