- noblebarnesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love Red's character and the intrigue in this story. He's always thinking about his options and trying to make the logical one. The mystery of the plot is also refreshing. You get the sense of a larger picture but no idea about the details. For feedback: the characters and the setting are distinct for the most part which is great but...let's see. Each character has a main color/personality but they could use some brush strokes of other colors. I also think it would be improved if the pace increases. Perhaps if the author went from weekly to two or three times a week and made those chapters dense and moved the plot further along or added richness to the characters. I think something like that would help the story.
Overall, nicely done! - GODKINGASHRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It took a while but I made it than bought Patreon and I’m looking forward to an update soon read this if you like cultivation s but of a slow burn but incredibly good, This might actually be my first review that’s how good this is give it a try.
- KevinADavisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Read the first six chapters. Intriguing start with a solid introduction into an unusual culture and setting. The writing hooks you quickly from one chapter to the next.
Story: The culture and magic system is developing at a great pace. Intriguing opening for Red with good hooks. Our purple tentacle friend and the magic system is compelling.
Style: Description and internal dialogue is good. I have a clear sense of Red and the surroundings. There are awkward phrases such as “they were the invaders” where it could be added into the description where the beings “invaded” instead of “poured”. The dialogue is solid. Pacing keeps steady.
Grammar: I'm not skilled enough to identify the actual issues. There did seem to be places that would work better with commas.
Characters: Red has been developing clearly. Their character is young, so the flaws and assets simple and I’ve yet to see any direction in their arcs. I’m fine with this at this stage of the narrative. Viran’s character is still developing.
Overall, a good read that I'd suggest. The magic system, nasty critters, rough companions, and culture seems complex and I look forward to learning more. The few chapters I've read have left a solid interest in Red. - S1qwemRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed it. You probably should try the book, you would probably enjoy it too. Spelling and grammar is decent, prose is readable, characters have depth, the world isn’t too detailed yet, as the main character grows more is revealed.
Honestly I don’t have much bad to say about this book. The pacing is consistent, themes don’t repeat, and the book does go into time skips when needed rather than adding filler.
Character growth and development is slow, but done well, with growth and change occurring organically as the story progresses. Similarly, more and more details about the world are also elaborated on with the story.
The pet snake bit really felt extraneous to the story and I’m honestly glad it got dropped.
A lot of other authors should honestly read this, it’s a great example of keeping a novel focused despite there being multiple active plot threads. I never felt like I was reading filler. - VisorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't normally write positive reviews(I haven't even had an account until now), and in my experience positive reviews usually suck and don't properly describe the problems and quality aspects of a work, but most of the popular reviews are written by philistines that don't get the appeal, so I have to actually ennumerate what makes it good, so the author doesn't get punished for his good qualities.
Progression Speed/Satisfaction
The progression of the protagonist is very slow. Some people don't like this, and would prefer if the protagonist got to Lesser Ring Realm(This is the first real cultivation realm) in 30 chapters rather than 350, but those people don't get the appeal. The author stays true to his power scaling and this makes the slow progression all the more satisfying. Cultivators in general are rare and usually conglomerating in cities or sects far away from where the protagonist is located. What this means is that a lesser ring realm cultivator is for hundreds of chapters the most powerful character the protagonist is aware of, barring strange exceptions that aren't directly attacking him. This makes even the advancement into lesser ring realm super satisfying because it was hard fought, and now the protagonist is a scary motherfucker that can threaten 99.9% of people just by looking at them. The story does not shy away from showing this, and, unlike a lot of xianxia, many of the characters that Red interacts with in current chapters are non-cultivators so his achievement is not trivialized by power creep. When your protagonist that could basically only run and maybe stun a lesser ring realm cultivator gets to stand toe to toe with them, and they take him seriously as a threat, that's true progression. It's a bit like a gun-toting drifter walking into an old-west town, and all the lawmen look at the drifter with nervous expressions because they don't know what he could be up to or how dangerous he is in a fight. Except instead of cowboys, it's cultivator - ZennithRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story gets better the further you read it, and if you’re comfortable with slow-burn or patient enough for a long read then you’d certainly enjoy this.
The characters, while generic at surface level, are human enough to be interesting and likeable. They are also always consistent, so there’s no issue with characters acting off.
Like I said before, this story starts off very slowly and the pacing is slow in general. If you’re okay with that then you’d certaintly enjoy this story. The world, magic systems and characters keeps expanding with knew additions to spice it further. Admittedly the pacing is slow, but that’s only an issue at the beginning or mid-point - the story moves progressively faster the further you go.
If slow stories is a deal-breaker for you then the first fifty chapters will deter you. Which is understandable, but this story is very consistent in terms of quality and new chapters are realeased everyday.
To make it short; this starts very slowly, then gets faster after fifty chapters. Afterwards it’s all better from there. - imdanerdinatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am loving this novel. I picked up book one off of Amazon and proceeded to devour up to the most up to date chapter in less than a week.
I appreciate the excellent world building without the constant need for a harem portion that seems to plague other novels.
I appreciate the writing of Red's character as someone who does not really understand the emotions and motivations of others around them and its ability for him to be able to cut through the fakeness of much conversation and niceties. - KyanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I've really enjoyed the story. The escape from the cave dragged out and I had skip past some of the insect battles which seemed to get a little monotonous but I've come to like the mc and was cheering on his escape. The action scenes are well written and had a good amount of detail. Definitely interested in more details on the world and how cultivation works. I haven't understood the dream sequences but assume they will play a part later in the story. I also hope they are minimized. The mc is young so I'll be interested to see how the story progresses and if there are large time skips to get him to a more mature age. The time skip is a good tool and used in small chunks of a few months at a time advances the plot without feeling like you missed too much of his life. It also provides and opportunity to see the mc cultivate and train without having to read about the same training over and over as the mc increases his skill.. Thanks for writing an interesting story!
- hellnhavocRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I really enjoyed this story up through 250 ish. It is however way too slow. 250 chapters in and the dude has open 4 of 12 veins and isnt considered a real cultivator and i think he is still like maybe 11? Come on buddy. Extra words because it is making me do it
- AthalahelmRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story starts slow but it's well thought out, chapters have actual meat to make something of (take more than 3 min to read), and the writer is prolific (chapters daily).
His style is evolving, but within the plot he's developing skips are possible vs the opposite.
Not here but so often you get a good plot but the author doesn't have any room to develop- often starting 'new' stories or 'branches' to stretch. This story has lots of room for growth. Hoping to watch him Master it.
