Description
This is not a world of heroes and villains. Morality was a luxury for ages past, for a time when the sun wasn’t spiralling toward an early death. The last pockets of humanity struggle to co-exist alongside the twin-souled monsters of the Seventh World, but none of that matters to Mycal. For him, love is the only thing left that is worth fighting for.
Having abandoned his insular underground colony, he sets out into the world seeking a more fulfilling life. A chance meeting with a beautiful witch sends him down a path of wonder, danger and self-discovery. Unfortunately for Mycal, not everyone he meets shares his innocence, nor his belief in the redeeming power of love.
Mushy Mushy Love Story is a romance adventure story about monsters, some of which are more obvious than others.

- KateSpellRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My first impression of this story was: I have no idea what I just read, but I’m into it.
This is a very creative, fun piece that had me laughing at least once every chapter. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, but I am digging the fungal MC and the satiric allusions to real-world fairytales and science. I also like how smart I feel every time I read a biology term that I haven’t heard since college.
The world building is interesting and has been laid out without info-dumping. I was also pleasantly surprised when a new POV popped up later on. So far, these new characters have only been in one chapter, but I’m excited to see where that goes and how they fit in with the ones we’ve already met.
The narration is well written. The only thing I’m hoping to see improve a bit is the dialogue. It sometimes seems a bit forced and there have been times when there was a bit of a block of dialogue that could have used some breaking up and bits of narration/scene setting thrown in.
I look forward to reading more chapters and seeing where this story goes. As it’s listed as a romance with sexual content, I’m most curious to see how that’s going to work with the different biologies, though we’ve already gotten a small taste with the “plucking”- which was one of many very clever plays on words.
Update: Still one of my favorite RR stories, even though the chapters have slowed down, I still get excited when one randomly drops!
