- dodolordRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, I came to the end of Unspeakable Secrets and saw the bit about "bonus" content. Didn't think much of it. Then, I go to check when the next book is coming out (because the first one is freaking good) and I found these posts.
Actually had to make an account just to say AWESOME. I'm so used to everyone trying to screw their customers over that it just blew me away that someone actually follows through on the stuff they say.
And, the little stories are actually really fun. I used to read myths and legends and stuff as a kid and it's just like doing that all over again. Except, there are all kinds of weird and different things in there and reimaginings of classic ones too. I think it's clear that the author is putting in a lot of effort in everything he makes for people. The text is clean, so he's clearly edited it. He's not just crapping out rubbush. He's actually making cool stuff.
This helps tide me over till book 2 but dude wright faster! - Doris NelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Stories are short, but enjoyable. Really helps to make the world more fleshed out (yes I read the book but still think the stories are fun). The short stories aren’t earth shattering but they’re interesting, imaginative and well written.
- CountessKatarinaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Each chapter is a self-contained little story. They’re small but much like finger food it’s easy to gobble them one at a time and then wonder where they all went!
Grammar is excellent. No typos that I saw or anything like what you normally see in web novels.
I really like the voice each entry is done in. Really feels like I’m reading some crotchety professor’s rambling notes. Makes it come alive. - MarmaladeCatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The method of storytelling is engaging, and I love the fact that you took the initiative to explore some of the lesser known creatures of mythology. Together, they form a cohesive whole and I can certainly imagine how they can contribute to the natural world of a fantasy universe.
Short excerpts such as this offer a refreshing new way in which these creatures are presented, and personally I think this is quite nice. It includes a personal touch in the form of the narrator, Nicholas Wolfram, yet also tries to be quite informative.
Do remember to take off the HIATUS tag if it's complete! - Pauline KhouryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very relaxing read. Entries are small but with more personality than expected. I like the old professor and some of the description makes me chuckle. Grammar is really good. Not really seen any issues at all there. Some of the entries are very imaginative and I look forward to seeing what new monsters he has in store.
- andyclRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been following his posts for a little while now, and I've got to say it really is a bit of fun. Admittedly I'm reading this after reading his book, but while that might mean I get slightly more out of these stories because I'm familiar with the world I still think they're actually quite fun even by themselves.
I came to the end of his book and read a bit about how he had additional content on his website and honestly I didn't think much of it. I've read lots of authors who say that, but there actually isn't really any 'content'. Gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. I read his posts either here or on his site, and I keep checking back every so often. They're easy to read, short, and full of flavour.
I do think he made a mistake in one of the entries by referring to a biscuit as I can see he's going with American spelling, and I think biscuit is a distinctly British thing. Still, they're a bit of fun. - crowdfaceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What can be said about Monsters of Terra?
The advanced review layout doesn't seem fitting for a story like this. Style and grammar I can rate, they're both perfectly flawless, story and characters, those are a bit harder. Simply put, this has neither. Save for a few fleeting anecdotes, it is all monster descriptions.
The compendian sketches the outline of a high fantasy world, with various beasts, peoples and magics. What it is, really, is the worldbuilding part of an epic fantasy novel.
The only complaint I have is that it's rather generic. A lot of the chapters wouldn't seem out of place in and DnD campaign world. I prefer the more imaginative chapters where the author comes up with concepts that are either original, or taken from sources I hadn't seen yet. - MK bk-201Royal Road★★★★ 4.0It was a fun read, each chapter a little description a tale about some creature, some we all know of the general fantasy world, and some unique to this one, altough it might get a little tedious in the middle part. I would have loved to see a entry for humans, elves or dwarves, but sadly there wasent
