Description

For this cyborg, power is just an upgrade away.

Emmett was used to being caught between college and his engineering internship, but when he gets caught between a powerful hero and an even stronger villain, he becomes collateral damage. Instead of dying, he wakes up a cyborg. Turns out his boss wasn’t just an eccentric inventor, and the old man just gave him a shining opportunity to be a hero.

Except that’s just the beginning, and things are about to get a lot more complicated.

His boss has his own agenda. The boss’s daughter has her own power armor. His roommate works for an evil corporation.

And Emmett is small fry. Just a Class 1 hero.

Superheroes aren’t just masks—some work for corporations, or for the government and the military, and even as mercenaries in wars. Shadowy cabals pull the strings of hero and villain alike. The city of Belport might be peaceful for now, but most of the world is in turmoil. If Emmett is going to have any chance at making a difference, he needs to get stronger. A lot stronger.

How much of his humanity will he hold onto and how much will he trade away?

If you’re a fan of Cyborg, Winter Soldier, Iron Man, or Batman Beyond, then you don’t want to miss this series!

I'm pretty impressed. The action scenes were awesome and kept me hooked. It's not like those typical superhero stories, there's something fresh about it. The pacing might be a bit slow, but it lets the characters grow on you. The MC is a mix of tech hero and superpowers, so it's not just the same old stuff. Don't expect a love story though, it's more focused on the action and character development. Overall, definitely worth a read if you're into superhero novels. Can't wait to see what happens next!

As a reader you have to suspend your disbelief too much to accept the protagonist and roomie situation.
If you can, is for sure a five starts webnovel, not as gritty as Worm but has great atmosphere and one likes to root for Emmet.
    Sadly, I can't. So I'm dropping It.
Leaving a 5, It was a good ride and I wish the author the best.

I really enjoyed this world and was the guy who read this book for the Epic Indie site and the SPFBO. I really liked the story of the protagonist slowly learning how to be a superhero, how his roommate is a supervillain, and his relationship with the Doc and his daughter. The upgrades and progression fantasy elements are on point as well as well-integrated into the story overall. I'm actually shipping him and a character, which is always a good sign of investment.

So far i'd say the story is just starting, i'm on chapter 99. Thats notto say nothing has been happening, no lots of stuff has happened but the fuller picture has developed where i have an idea of the main story. The mc is progressing well, and his power hungryness is understandable considering there are reality benders, and pretty much a superman character, who i feel is gonna pull a homelander, but we will see. It's like a more brutal mha, but more realistic in sense of the boys, supers are very corprate. The upgrades he get are all meaning full, and i could see him rising to be a big player in the world.

Alright, let’s talk superhero stories. I’m sure you’ve all read some of Superman, Spiderman, watched the Iron Man or Avengers movies, etc.
But this is not like those movies. This is not some story where “justice always prevails”. No. This is about a complex world where there are a lot more heroes and villains than you can practically count. So many that the government really can’t be bothered to keep detailed tabs on until they get powerful enough to be an actual threat to anyone important. Imagine My Hero Academia, except there’s fewer people who get abilities, but each one gets something valuable, enough to absolutely deck the average human. Can you even imagine the chaos and problems it would cause? Forget the superhero vs villain thing, the best anyone can do is try to regulate the streets with an unwritten code - do not kill. That’s it, that’s the best anyone can actually do without causing a major uprising and possibly massacre, despite the various abilities that can bend and shape reality to their will.
Are you hooked now? Because I certainly would be. The story’s writing is impeccable, showing you the ins and outs of superhero life at the same time Emmett, the Main Character, learns the same lessons. You get introduced to the main people in the story one step at a time, and see how Emmett interacts with them. You get to see the world and all of its faults one step at a time, nay, one dangerous incident at a time, just like Emmett slowly learns that the superhero life is not as idyllic and fantastical as he thought it would be.
The ability to draw you in, to put you in the shoes of the protagonist, to make you feel what they are feeling - that is the mark of a good story, and Mod Superhero bears that mark.

This story is a fun and interesting take on the superhero genre. The first arc isn't over yet, but the author has been hitting us with regular and rapid chapter releases, so I doubt we need to worry about not getting there.
Style : The story has a slightly slower pace, that matches it's attempt at realism within the created world.  The character doesn't go from being a student and engineering nerd to being a super hero over night.  That only works for Spider-man, and if you think about it, how quickly do you think some young guy would turn into a super hero, given super powers over night? While I wouldn't classify this story as a Litrpg or Gamelit, it does contain multiple grades and classification systems that should make fans of that style of writing happy, without adding tons of blue boxes.
Story : The story does have a slightly darker theme so far, and it seems likely what has been revealed so far is only the tip of the iceberg.  It's balancing on a tight rope between a dark setting and a MC with a hopeful relatively upbeat personality.  I am interested to see if our MC will be molded by his surroundings, or force the world to mold to him. I can't say it's flawless, as in one or two spots I felt that a situation could have been presented better, but that is very minor.  The story shines, and gets my approval for not being a OP fantasy, or having ridiculous plot armor.
Grammar : I haven't had any real issues with the grammar.  I have made one or two corrections, and they were clearly just auto-correct errors, but upon noting them the author fixed them quickly.  By RR standards the grammar is quite good, and would just need the touch of a professional editor to be ready for publishing.
Characters : The MC is quiet well written.  He is a College student that still shows the hints of being fresh out of high school.  He isn't perfect, and he doesn't always make the best decisions. He sees the world through glasses tinted by his hero worship. As I stated before, he do

emett just wanted to go home, but is dragged into the world of super powered shenanigans by almost dying. lucky for him, he seemed to have impressed the doctor he interns for and wakes up better for it.
as far as tropes go, this is a fresh mix with proven ingredients: genetic mutations (and corresponding juices), magic, metaphysics and good old tinkertech come together to form a tasty brew for everyone who thinks marvel and dc keep reheating stale concepts too much. here we get a plot that appears slightly telegraphed from the outside on behalf of "screentime" given to secondary characters but rouses interest by being obscure about how everything is connected. the story also has some peter parker/miles morales elements on behalf of emetts main equipment and their similar stage in life but its still fresh enough to stand on its own. our main character hasnt yet seen deeply behind the curtain and so we are allowed to learn with him and slowly experience what this world has to offer in its shadows.

Hero, but with a different personality and unique skill set.
Style: The writing style is simple and easy to follow, making it an enjoyable read. The author has a way of describing scenes that makes you feel like you're right there, watching the action unfold. The pacing of the story is a bit slow at the moment, but it allows the author to develop the characters and lay the groundwork for the events to come.
Characters: The characters are well developed and all have unique personalities. The protagonist, in particular, is very interesting to follow. He is smart, brave and determined, but he also has his weaknesses. The secondary characters are also well written and add a lot to the story.
Plot: The story is intriguing and well thought out. There's enough mystery and suspense to keep readers interested and engaged. Events unfold logically and coherently, which makes the created universe believable and realistic.
Action: The action scenes are well described and easy to follow. The protagonist uses a combination of technology and superpowers to fight crime, which makes the action scenes unique and interesting. The action scenes are also well balanced with the quieter moments in the story, allowing the author to develop the characters and events in greater depth.
Themes: The story touches on several interesting themes, including power, responsibility, and justice. The author explores these themes in a subtle and clever way, which adds extra depth to the story.
Conclusion: Overall, this is a good read. Although the pace is a little slow at the moment, the story is intriguing and well thought out. The characters are well developed and the created universe is believable and realistic. If you are looking for a new superhero series Read Mod Super Hero

This might be what finally gets me into progression fantasy. My favorite character is definitely Athena, hope we see more of her, but honestly this has really fun character work in general for a webnovel. Only gripe would be a little immature prose and some unnecessary words but the worldbuilding and characters are really great! Glad this got recommended to me on the RR algo

A pretty good read. A bit slow right now but overall pretty good. The story is at chapter 34 and the protagonist has done a bit of training, some snooping, and had some low level crime fighting but he hasn't really taken any charge over himself or his abilities. He is a tech based hero but he also has super powers so it's a bit of a mix. So far he is similar to Bucky. A low level supersolider  kind of deal with a metal arm. There aren't many characters or much character growth going on. You have a suspicious roommate, the jaded professor and his daughter who is usually upset or working. There is no love interest either so don't come in expecting a relationship one way or the other. Overall, it's a pretty good story on its own. A good read but more slow paced than I usually read and the characters all feel like they have extremely weak attachments with each other. I recommend giving it a try and know that it is still extremely early and I am a poor judge of quality.
