Description
Lilieth Lasvenn, the twelfth member of the hero's party, was betrayed and murdered by the heroes themselves. Now, she's back, and she wants revenge. Young, timid, and meek, Lilieth Lasvenn was an apprentice priestess that became a member of one of the legendary "hero's parties". That said, she wasn't particularly strong, skilled, nor amounted to anything more than someone to fill the ranks. The only thing of note about her was her perfect memory—and nothing else. When that very same party betrays and kills her, an inexplicable revival makes Lilieth swear to bring revenge straight to them. To kill a hero, however, is no simple task. Fortunately, resurrection seems to have given her something she didn’t have before. Along with a seemingly undying body, the young mage also finds herself with the ability to absorb the memories of others and copy their spells. Lilieth must now learn to fight, armed with her newfound abilities, and one day be strong enough to slay those heroes. The deeper she delves into her journey, however, the more she begins to realize: This world is hiding secrets—buried memories that should never have been unearthed. Sure, yes, there is a lot of graphic detail in the gore. If you’ve got a weak stomach, I’d advise second thoughts. The MC sure has that problem. The things she experiences and the way she has to crawl out of the depths of what becomes the starting point of her journey?
It’s glorious to see someone struggle and bear their burdens for once. No instant fix or immediate “I win” button. Just pain and the journey to grow and overcome it.
All my reviews seem to highlight a few grammar errors. This has some. The author is working on them! There wasn’t anything bad enough that I felt the story was brought down by them.
There also isn’t necessarily an instant “best friend” that she latches onto. Relationships take time to build and they don’t always work out at the first step. That’s the case here. It feels more natural to have people need to warm up to the main character, and more than that, it feels right for them to turn negative towards her when she fails. She screws up, and that has consequences for her interpersonal relationships. It reminds me of the early parts of Fates Parallel between Jia and Eui. That’s great for setting up the stage for future growth.
I love so much of what this story is doing, and there’s something really special here for me as a reader.
This is a solid read with emotionally impactful characters and storytelling. I look forward to every future update!
Also, screw you to whoever reported my review before. If you want to move up the ranks on RS, try writing better. I will fight to keep my review up, especially with how much I enjoy this particular story. - AvidReadererRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My biggest pet peeve with RR stories usually pertains to writers forcing actions on their characters that directly goes against their established nature to drive the story in a new direction. So far, this story hasn't done that.
The main character seems realistic as in her emotions, insecurities, and actions actually feel natural. Everything our MC does/feels actually aligns with her character and doesn't feel like it's being forced to drive the narrative forward. This may result in a slower paced story, but the story allows the reader to be fully immersed into it. I find myself cheering for the MC, and actually wanting to know more about the other side characters. I actually look forward to the potential paths the MC may take in the future.
I can tell that the author actually has a well thought out blueprint for this story, and what he/she wants it to be. It's actually unique and not following the common tropes often seen with other novels. I look forward to what i'll read in the future. - Kikushiki_SenseiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is quite interesting knowing it is a female lead but doesn't end up with a cutesy taste as what normal fantasies go for. It started on a mellow tone and then continuously grew the progression fairly to the point where I can still have a grasp of understanding where the story is currently. I'm eager to see more detailed fight scenes soon as the story progresses and more tension to tie things over and over until it becomes a huge knot that the MC had to either break it or make it. Hopefully I get to see where Lili and her fate come to on the end of the story.
- KindlyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I did not expect such depth when I started this book. It artfully packages explorations of the nature of self and it's intersection with pain and relationships into an easy to consume fantasy tale. I read most books and think, could do that with a little practice." But to produce this level of art would take decades of practice.
l eagerly await the next chapter and hope the author is able to pacify the gorillas long enough to complete the work. - kuyapanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Notice: I am friends with the author. As of writing this review, I also help with editing technical things in the book such as grammar and syntax, but I experience the contents of the chapters and the plot in general as they are released like any other reader. He did not ask me to write a review. I've been enjoying the book since before I joined the editing team!
As someone who only ever dabbles in reading, I never really found myself committed to following an online book. Mimicmage changed that.
The first few chapters were admittedly a little difficult for me to get through because of how many names were popping up in quick succession, but once Lilieth's first death happened, everything felt more natural to take in. Although the chapters are meant to take place over the course of just a month, they feel very rich in content without forcing tension nor creating unnecessary plot lines. Each character feels relevant. There is still my concern that there are a lot of characters, especially being given relevance, but I could just be feeling that way because I'm not used to stories like this. Otherwise, following along has been very exciting. I find myself rooting for particular characters for their flaws as much as their motivations. Lilieth is admittedly not one of them — she feels more like a vessel to the story than anything else — but that doesn't take away from the quality of the story at all.
The story is written in a way that's very immersive with descriptions and dialogue that characterize each individual well. I might enjoy it more with a little more show than tell, but it's still well-written as is. The magic system and character relationships and dynamics are things I particularly enjoy, and I'm having loads of fun speculating what this and that mean.
Overall, it's a very good slow-burn that I would strongly recommend even for newer readers like myself! It definitely taught me patience and endurance with its first few chapters, and I was rewarded with chapter
