Description
⚠️Warning:This fic contains sarcasm, explosive bat diplomacy, anti-inspirational monologues, and a system with zero emotional support.
If you’re here for cold stat progression, mechanical lore dumps, or protagonists with filter settings—this is not that. But if you want chaos, charisma, and characters who roast each other harder than the villains, you’re in the right place.
Bat to the Future: The Other Midoriya
A My Hero Academia Fanfiction
Izuku Midoriya was born quirkless. So was I.
The difference? He spent his childhood crying into his All Might plushie and writing fan letters.I spent mine getting my ass kicked—and learning how to kick back harder.
After my mom passed, Inko Midoriya adopted me. That’s how I became Izuku’s louder, meaner, infinitely more attractive stepbrother. He wanted to be a hero.I just wanted people to shut up about quirks and let me swing my bat in peace.
But the world doesn’t work that way. So I adapted. And by “adapted,” I mean I stared fate dead in the eyes, flipped it off, and broke the system.
Literally.
One impulsive (read: illegal) decision later, I unlocked something better than a Quirk—A System that lets me break my limits. Strength, speed, intelligence—everything goes up when I push myself. The catch? If I turn it off, I get hit with every side effect at once.
So I don’t turn it off.
Now I’ve got:
Stats that shouldn’t exist
Skills that shouldn’t be legal
And a steel bat that’s ruined more lives than student loans
The pros hate me.The villains hate me.Bakugo really hates me.
Between dodging Boom Boom Bitch’s tantrums, robbing villains of their dignity, and giving the Hero Commission chronic migraines, I’m rewriting the rules and making an absolute mess of the system.
They wanted another hero?Too bad.
They got me instead.
This isn’t a hero story. This is a tax fraud case waiting to happen. And I’m just getting started.

It's not a grandstanding voyage or a soul searching journey, it's an unhinged jump in outer space and ithe execution is perfect for what the story aims to be , the author wants you to laugh and you will trough sheer unadulterated gremlin energy , 5 star 10/10 ign
Will recommend to every adult in my age group (24) - Blank69007Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Use to wake up looking forward to reading this fun novel; action, comedy, and slice of life that follows the main events of the anime more or less.In my opinion the authors talent lies in creating character interactions more than anything,if you want something bingable this is the novel for you.Wish there was a book 2 it'd be a great exercise for the author to challenge their skills building the story past the anime with the ripples the mc made.
Ps I was reading this as the author released chapters, they were very involved with feedback and interacting with readers, which was cool 2 - gjimRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you are looking for a light hearted story you have come to the right place. Ryuu (Main Character), is constantly cracking wise. Some how it works and would even work if it wasn't part of the My Hero universe. Since the story is part of the setting it makes for a fun and more realistic take on being a hero. As it feels more violent and aggressive like how a super hero society would play out. Stick around for the ride you will probably have a laugh or two from character interactions.
- OrficerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wonderful story start to finish. Some minor grammar stuff that might have you reread some stuff but not nearly enough to be bad. The snark is alive and well with Ryuu. This is the kind of character that scratches that itch in the back of my brain. I would liked to have seen more development with romance, but, that's Ryuu. He just doesn't care (the fuck he doesn't and it pulls my heart strings.) Pacing is solid for me, it dips some and skips ahead some but still easy to follow and doesn't ruin it. Lines are delivered like they would personally insult the reader. I wheezed. I weeped (happy and sad). I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a no nonsense dude just trying to keep his little corner of the world burning and SPOILER: being probably the best big brother/father figure to a girl who needed someone more than just a person to take care of them. Again. Just like the title to this review. Chef's kiss. 13 out of 10. I would only love more to the after story but I won't spoil that for anyone ;P This is how you right a damn fan fiction.
- Patryk RysRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Bakugo gets his ass kicked, and honestly? That alone makes it worth it. God, I can't stand that kid.
But seriously — this fanfic is entertaining. It's definitely not a masterpiece, but it's far from boring. It’s a solid power/hero fantasy, and the main character is a total badass.
What really stands out is how real the MC feels. He’s multidimensional, consistent in his chaotic, borderline-asshole behavior, and the author doesn't cut corners by softening him just to move the plot along. He stays true to his character, even when it would’ve been easier to write him differently. That kind of commitment is rare.
The side characters also feel fleshed out and realistic. A lot of the frustrating stuff from the original manga gets directly addressed and fixed here.
For example:
Bakugo constantly gets called out and put in his place for his toxic behavior.
The MC’s stepbrother is openly challenged on his obsession with All Might.
And even All Might himself — the supposedly wise mentor — gets called out for being unprofessional and irresponsible. That kind of honesty in storytelling? Respect.
There’s only one real issue: some of the character descriptions are missing or vague. If you’re not familiar with the source material, you might have trouble visualizing certain characters or scenes. Sure, you can just Google the names to get a picture, but ideally, a fic should stand on its own without requiring prior knowledge. That’s just my take.
Bottom line: the author and this story deserve way more attention. There are hundreds of worse novels out there getting more love. It’s honestly unfair.
Read it. It’s not perfect — but it’s absolutely worth your time. - SparkeredhutRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It’s a mha fanfic. Two things of note however, Ryu fits fairly well into things, and bounces off the characters pretty well. Second thing of notes is that while he may have a “gamer” power it doesn’t really feel like a gamer story and I respect that, I like gamer stories and litrpgs, but I also like seeing things done differently in that genre and this is certainly different.
- umake_mesaltyRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This is one of those self-insert fan fics, where if taken seriously, induces quite a bit of cringe. But that's the point, don't take it seriously, just read and coast along and you'll find this to be a mostly fun and entertaining story. Otherwise, all the constant quips and one liners will annoy you to death (I suppose if you hate quips and one liners, then avoid this, that's basically all of the MC's dialogue).
- DnojRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5TLDR; Far too many characters sound like the MC (like a chronically online Gen Z 'memelord' /s), MC can get annoying (and creepy) at times, and Ochako is a completely different person.
Aside from that, an okay fic. Nothing too special.
Review:
Okay, first things first - did I enjoy it? Yes. There's some enjoyable moments, especially the banter and roasting by Ryuu, the MC.
However, it can get tiring and old at times. It's like having a neurotic Gen Z friend who has the occasional banger lines, but unfortunately most of them are pretty cringe and he doesn't know it, and he unironically thinks of himself as a 'memelord.'
Another big problem I have with this fic is the dialogue of the supporting cast. A lot of them share the same voice - that is, the Ryuu's.
Mina, Jiro, Toru, hardening guy, Pikachu boy, tail dude, tape lad, hell even Mirko - they all sound like the MC in dialogue.
Now, Kirishima, Kaminari, and Ashido I'd understand, especially Ashido since she's like the trendy girl, but everyone else? There aren't many good reasons to have two characters sound alike, let alone four - or ten.
Also, Ochako is a completely different person here. She's not some earnest, bashful, innocent, but hard working and tenacious cinnamon roll like Deku. Here she's like... Ashido, for some reason - confident and a bit flirty. It was pretty jarring to witness her first appearance when our MC walks up to her and flirts with her (MC's pretty creepy btw), and she flirts back.
Like... This is supposed to be the girl who blushes at the thought of her crush on Izuku in canon. Who the hell is this girl who flirts back and asks for a date without a hint of hesitation?
Oh, and Mineta's still here. Minus 1 star just for that. Okay not really, but he's only really here to be a perv and for our MC to clown on him and emphasize how our MC's flirtatiousness is not the same as Mineta's sexual harassment.
Which I'd argue is a pretty fine line, because the only real difference is our MC has Pretty Pr - AzuresaintRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The core concept has potential. a quirkless character with a gaming system navigating the MHA world... Unfortunately, the execution feels like it was written by someone who thinks being relentlessly crude equals being funny.
The dialogue is the main issue. Every character interaction is packed with tryhard one-liners that no actual person would say. The protagonist can't hold a normal conversation without launching into elaborate, juvenile insults that read like AI-generated middle school roast battles.
MHA provides excellent foundation for a fanfiction novel, but this story tries way too hard. It's extremely cringe-worthy. I barely made it to the end of chapter 2.
Here's an example from chapter 1:
I shrug, flashing my best shit-eating grin. "Is that what happens to you when you are constipated and sweat from your ass? Explode? Man, your mom must have a hard time cleaning your boxers."
Bakugo’s eye twitches, and for a second, I swear I can see steam rising from his head like he’s a human pressure cooker about to blow. His goons, who finally managed to catch up, look like they’re debating whether to laugh or back away before the inevitable happens.
“What the hell did you just say, you little shit?” Bakugo growls, his hands already sparking.
“I mean, I get it. It must suck being Bakugo Katsuki, human firecracker. Can’t even sit down without worrying your ass might spontaneously combust.” I shrug again, tilting my head. “But hey, at least you’re memorable, right? Who needs dignity when you’ve got kabooms?”
The entire chapter maintains this tone; a relentless barrage of forced one-liners and witticisms that fall flat. There's only so much secondhand embarrassment i can handle.
3/5 / Has the bones of a decent story, but the execution makes it nearly unreadable. Might work for readers who enjoy nonstop crude humor, but the artificial dialogue will likely alienate anyone seeking genuine character development or natural storytelling. - IhavereaditallRoyal Road★★ 2.0Its your typical Mary Sue system story where the main character suffer no hardships and whatever he does turns out in his favor. Below is a justification for my low ratings. But hey at least it has good grammar.
The way the system was written is bad all around, first of all the way the system speaks is just infuriating and makes it hard to take the fic seriously what so ever. Secondly the luck stat is meaningless since the main character gets no adversity and succeeds in everything. The limit break skill straight up ruins the whole story for there is no reason for it to exist, tripling all of your stats at the cost of never turning the skill off is not something you should ever write.
The characters have no real development and seem to exist only to give the main character someone to banter with. In key moments—such as the Stain fight, the tournament arc, or the Nomu battle—they’re robbed of any chance to shine. Their only notable roles are either being roasted (like Mineta) or flirted with (in the case of the female characters). Overall, they feel like little more than props to highlight how smart, clever, and charismatic the MC is.
The story itself feels like it was written in a way where the author went "Hey this really hard fight is coming up how do i make the main character steal all of the spotlight" And then the author just wrote in the appropriate upgrades from the system to make so the mc does not have to struggle whatsoever. Oh he needs to win a tournament? How about I give him a power up that scales with the crowd size. Oh he needs to fight an opponent that often kills even professional heroes like a nomu or a Stain? How about we make it so Stain's main ability does not work on him and the mc somehow miraculously can match him in melee. Or somehow he does not get turned into blood mist by a nomu.
Overall, this fic has so much wasted potential, there were so many ways to write a compelling story and yet the author chose to squander all of them to write thi
