- LabRat407Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am the worst at leaving reviews.
This story has many of the elements I am not fond of like Necromancy, Steampunk among them.
But as short as this story is, I really enjoyed it. The pacing was good, the characters enjoyable and developed nicely. I can see this as a start to many more adventures for the MC and others. Wonder if the research academy will learn how to contract travel to other worlds via the Astral...
So TLDR: Enjoy a quick satisfying story. - StoicLRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0MC starts a bit whiny but honestly if I'd spent the majority of my life planning a nice safe boring career and life only to get shafted with being forced into the adventuring lifestyle I would be too. There is actual character growth that comes naturally from their motivations and flaws. The world feel deep and vibrant. Would recommend reading.
- XchironRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Loving this series so far! It has a steampunk vibe with elements of league of legends arcane in it. The way the protagonist uses her power is portrayed in a clever way and does not feel overpowered at all. You also really get to feel what the characters feel, not by what they say but by things that happen around them. It's definitely worth the read!!
- IllthylianRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Truly does say something when an entire novel can be written over the course of the Writathon. On the shorter side? Absolutely, but does that detract at all from the quality? Not in the slightest. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read start to finish, and though there were some grammatical issues and obvious 'oh, wait' moments that come when you don't have the ability to plan things out far in advance, nothing within detracted from the experience of the adventure.
World was constructed, set up, explained and shown to us wonderfully in the first parts of the book, the special aspects of the characters and how they could contribute to the overall plan wound their way in properly with decent amounts of foreshadowing and setup, and while some of the characters blended together a little to serve the story, the main character was more than capable of standing out and on her own for her own story, making it work just great. It's difficult to really review stories like this because you can say 'this could have been done a bit better' or 'the story did occasionally slow and speed up', but it'd be unnecessary. Sat down, read it over the span of two hours, thoroughly enjoyed it, put it down, felt entirely satisfied. Not sure what else one can ask from a reading experience.
Only other thing I wanted to compliment was how this fiction managed to only bear some minor grammatical errors and rushing despite being pumped out close to a chapter ever day or two. The author did a fantastic job in completing this in its entirety with so few errors in so short a time, and for making it also of a great quality with just the rights amount of humor, sarcasm and seriousness included. Definitely looking forward to anything else written by the author and seeing what they do next Writathon.
