After failing out of law school and ending up working at an Amazon Warehouse in the mid 2050s, Life is pretty bleak for Quinn Takimura. Its been especially soul crushing since her permission to drive Cassie, her floors loader mech, got revoked over a misunderstanding. Everything changes however when the merciless plant aliens known as the Antithesis launch an invasion on Madison. Selected as Earth's newest Samurai, she gains the ability to purchase advanced technology from thin air to combat the alien threat. Maybe now she can make a difference, if she can overcome the hordes of hungry aliens, scheming corporations and her own personal troubles. What to expect: - Mecha Action. - Kill aliens, acquire points, buy cooler mecha gear. - A bisexual disaster of a protagonist. - Both simpler action fighting aliens, and more complicated problems dealing with humans. - Sticking it to the man. While technically a fanfiction, this is its own story written in the world of Stray Cat Strut. You don't need to have read the original to enjoy this one, but it might help! I've read up to ch 10 on another site, i am deducting .5 style for being a fanfiction. (You are free to disagree but i think this is fair).
Despite being a fanfiction it has a unique take on the "Stray Cat Strut" universe, with the main character using a mech as opposed to just "lol ima buy a handgun to fight the plant zerg". The main character is also intelligent in her use of human paw- I mean, allies. Rather than facing the zerg alone with this handgun she bought 10minutes ago.
(For those unaware Stray Cat Strut is a dystopian setting where aliens invade earth in gamified waves and heros empowered by advanced AIs kill them for points they can use to buy sciFi tech to fight the aliens off with.)
It avoids the egredious wish fufillment commonly seen in fan fiction and the characters are interesting.
I suspect the love interest is a man which is somewhat unique for this sub-genre.
There are a couple of grammar issues but the author is following up on them and fixing as they go so only taking off .5 stars for this.
I need 200 words, that's a lot of words. So i guess: dang that cover is cool. Very mecha.

All jokes aside, MU is one of my favorite entries into the fanfiction universe on the basis of its premise alone. It has a very grounded character in a shitty situation with amazon, that gives plenty of room to grow and lots of backstory to stretch as needed. Quinn is an awkward goober but I love the way she interacts with the majority of the cast thusfar, and more importantly, how she approaches combat.
So in the main series of Stray Cat Strut, our titular stray cat just gets a pistol and goes in effectively guns blazing. Which is nice...but I really do like the ingenuity that comes with turning the mech you were using as a fancy forklift into a killer robot.
Combine that with the fun game like mechanics of the Protectors and the gears of war/dynasty warriors vibes of fighting the antithesis and you get a recipe for action, violence and really cool robot shenanigans.
So just to go down the list for anyone who wants at TLDR
Style: Good voice, interesting premise, and solid use of the dystopian setting
Story: I have a ssliiiight gripe about how long the protag is using her kinda shitty robot but other than that, I love just about everything about it. Love Quinn, love her struggle, love giant robot go boom vs monster.
Grammar: I can't judge anyone for this. I can barely spell myself.
Character Score: The cast is really good! All of them feel human without being overbearing, the set up we get is nice without being overwhelming and I love Quinn and her AI as a team.

Morvarch is a talent in mech design and combat, with a detailed understanding of their strengths, weaknesses, and just how cool they can be.
They also do an amazing job at fleshing out another terrible corporation while also giving us amazing scenes of carnage and understanding of one's self. The romance plot, while a bit fast, feels natural to me. Open and honest with no current signs of the bad TV trope of "will they, won't they?" then "they have! But then drama happens and they split!"
