Description

Port Limitless, situated across 6 asteroids in the New Horizons star system at the edge of the the galaxy. Once it was hailed as the gateway to intergalactic travel and exploration, a major investment by the (former) Ceres Interplanetary Coalition. That was three centuries ago.

Now, neglected, too far from the main body of Ceres Empire, it stands as a home to the unwanted- criminals, lowlifes, runaways and refugees. Here in the barren reaches of space, one now finds the Overburn. A Mech arena and battlefield of questionable legality. Want to settle a dispute through a duel? Bet on five vs five tactical tournaments? Witness the carnage and destruction of deathmatches and gladiatorial combat? Overburn is just the place for you!

Can a refugee mechanic and a deserter pilot write history in such a place?

...

Well they can certainly try!

I don't love the character names. But that's a really minor complaint. The characters themselves are landing with me with what I've read so far.

Style: I especially loved, in the first chapter, when Yseni engages the mech. The frantic writing and descriptions work very well together to paint Yseni's emotions as he tries to operate the mech.
The world-building is really good and super subtle. Very little felt like it was being exposited to me, a lot felt naturally picked up. I really was and continue to be curious about this world.
Story: Love mechs. Love mechs so much. I also love it when operating mechs comes at a risk to the pilot. That always adds an interesting and appreciated layer to the story.
Homemade mechs are even cooler than regular mechs.
Grammar: The grammar is amazing. Some of the best I've seen on here. The sentences flow well and I was able to completely immerse myself in the story without getting caught up in the grammar at all. Of course, with all stories, it could use a bit of refining, but far less than most. Certainly less than my own writing.
Character: First, I love the names of the characters in this story. While normal-ish names in a fantasy and sci-fi setting aren't a turn-off for me, having inventive but still reasonable-sounding names is so great for my immersion. Yseni, Cerrit, Sedge. Good stuff. Good stuff. Bonus points for androgyny in the naming.
Beyond their names, the characters are interesting and I enjoy reading about them. Typically, I enjoy stories with one protagonist, not multiple perspectives, but I didn't mind the way this handled that.

imagine you are a down on your luck guy with a dream of building mechas. I know, we all have that dream at some time in our lives. Expect a sci fi story with great characters and an interesting world.  The history of the Limitless and the wider galaxy is something that I hope will be dripped out as the story continues because it feels like there is a lot more to learn that the author isn’t willing to reveal so early in the story.
So you’re an aspiring mech engineer: then imagine you’re getting shafted by the man because you don’t have a licence. Unauthorised. Illegal. But you do it anyway on the sly with your own funds and old parts then luck into meeting an up and coming pilot who is an admirer of your illicit work.
The story follows Yseni, the aforementioned engineer, as he struggles to follow his dream. A dream that involves big ole fighting robots. The action itself is fluid and reads very well with plenty exciting set pieces and real tension.
The style is good, it reads easily and well and there aren’t any grammar or spelling errors I noticed.
Characters are fun and interesting, they aren’t 2D and have history and personality to them that comes out through dialogue.
There is a sense of humour running through the prose that I really liked.
Overall I would strongly recommend giving this a read and hope the author releases many more chapters.  Worth a follow and a favourite for sure in my opinion.

I'm a tad bit new to the mech genre but here are my thoughts on this story:
The style is 3rd pov but detached from the mc, it gives flexibility and allows the reader to also see the situation of other characters and not purely from the mc's pov. Only problem i could see is the sudden change in environment with not as much buildup, but the author made sure to quickly set the new scene to not make it as confusing.
From the start, and because this is a mech story, more scientific or complex words were used, surely not friendly for new readers but for normal readers of mech stories or sci fi, it is just normal and even eye candy if you like the terminologies (I did too). A few words that don't fit and capitalization on a few parts but they won't affect the story as much.
The story itself piqued my interest despite not really reading mech, mechs participating in 5v5s to the death? Illegal mechs? Needing a permit for one? And an ace pilot girl!? The main catalyst of the story in itself is unique, never seen
A story start with a drunken night out (unless its from a romance then maybe) that led to Yseni's secret being exposed.
The opening may be heavy  on information and right in the middle of a big scene, but that's what hooked me further into the story.
As for the characters? Loved them, even from the start, their dialogue and funny interactions sealed the deal for me (Im always a sucker for character relationships done well and realistically. Both the side characters and main characters were written in a way that their introduction would let you know enough about them, from occupation to personality, all done at the same time and in a short amount of words.
All in all the story hooked me and really piqued my interest, despite not liking mech.
    Also:
    Is he really Yseni?

Characterization in this is solid, though the narrative overall lacks a proper hook. Meaning most people, myself included, will be a bit confused when starting out. Though it does get better the more you wind up reading, especially for someone who enjoys proper sci-fi.
Now, I haven’t experienced 40k, so that’s not a valid comparison. Though the general feel was sort of similar to Titanfall, Titanfall 2 to be specific. Not in terms of the narrative, but just with regards to some of its elements.
My reason for mentioning none of the actual content of this work is simple, to entice people to read this. It’s got enough good things in it to satisfy most of its target audience, though if it wants to draw more eyes to the genre that it’s representing then better planning would be necessary. Seeing as this probably won’t be the type of story for someone to sift through the first few chapters looking for some sort of clarity if this is their first foray into something like this.
Pretty good overall, will definitely recommend, just needs a small touch up though.
Otherwise, keep up the good work!

This is a mech based story that follows a pilot and mech duo with it switching between their POV's. Overall I feel the story has potential but it will come down to how the relationship between the two main characters progress. So far it has been a slow start as everything has been established. I am not strictly speaking a Mecha fan, but I do enjoy a good story regardless of its premise.
    What I like
The story focusing on the mechanic's point of view. I work on motorcycles for fun so it is always a treat to read about someone who does something similar. I can completely understand how he can focus in and get to work, and also the joy that comes from working on a machine and getting it running.
    What I don't like
    - I was not a fan of the character names
    - Punctuation around the dialogue could be cleaned up some
-Some word choices seem archaic given the setting
Overall I think you could improve with a revision. If you want me to ever reread it  after you have feel you have improved it, feel free to shoot me a DM and I'll give it another pass with an updated review!

To be honest I am not a fan of mech and this novel made me even more confused on my thoughts on mech, it's not my cup of tea but it didn't sounded ai generated, the way the dialogues unfolded were cracked but atleast felt natural. If you are into mechas than this story maybe a good read, for me it was a science class.
    The grammar was also smoothe.
The Wordplay I don't really know if it was there, there were a lot of unexplained explaination too which I couldn't understand since I never read a mecha.
I am Jureka a 16 year old penguin and this is a novel made by a puffin over and out.
