- Heath BarkerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Dungeon Divers' Emporium is easily one of the best takes on the LitRPG genre I have seen. The fantasy world described is filled with dungeons, skills, and a society built around adventuring. The way it is shown is very believable to the point that it seems like a fully realized world with its own economy and social hierarchy. The take on the "weak protagonist" trope is one of my favorite ones, it is not an overt approach of a zero-to-hero overnight transformation, but rather a more subtle depiction of finding value in overlooked abilities and creating a unique path to success. The world created is charmingly authentic, and the plot pulls you into it.
Style: The style is easy to read and fun. The part that stands out is the way Hiro's internal monologue is written. His thoughts are self-deprecating yet oddly confident, his social awkwardness palpable, and his attempts to appear "effortless" consistently fail in endearing ways. The descriptions of the dimensional spaces are also well done, you can visualize what they are from the context and descriptions - they're familiar enough to be comfortable, but unique enough to feel magical rather than mundane.
Story: The story is about a society built around dungeon diving and monster slaying, where our protagonist has found himself stuck at the bottom of the hierarchy. In this world, Hiro tries to forge a path for himself through commerce and creativity rather than combat prowess as the traditional path becomes increasingly impossible for him. The stark contrast between his self-perception and reality paints a vivid picture that pulls you in. The story progresses as Hiro discovers new dimensional skills, each expanding his possibilities in unexpected ways.
Character: Our character Hiro is a failed adventurer trying to make something of himself despite his limitations. He jumps at the opportunity presented by the mysterious guidebook with a hope of making his struggling shop actually work. He is someone you want to root for -
