Malt the Manslayer

Description

This story does not follow a hero. Malt doesn’t slay dragons with a holy sword nor is he granted immense magical power when he transfers. Unlike his three classmates, he was brought into the new world not as a mythical hero, but with stats comparable if not worse than the average townsfolk. Assaulted by feelings of inadequacy and weakness, he leaves the comfortable castle life that the royalty offered him and decides to help his new country in the only way he thinks he can. By joining the war on the southern border. Not a war against mythical beasts or powerful demons, but against other humans. He thought that he’d finish a single deployment then come back to the castle, proud enough to stand beside his friends again.

Little did he know that he’d become one of the most feared fighters on the battlefield, killing so many that he’d earn the moniker,

“Malt the Manslayer.”

This story reads like something between a generic Isekai and a subversion of the genre like "The Gilded Hero", in that it has the standard Isekai tropes, good-natured people in authority (on your side at least) and the heroes actually being OP. But is going for more of the despair/gritty world part of the subversion genre.
It is also hinted that the MC might clash against "civilian society" (feels like he might turn on the other heroes).
Also, the MC isn't an edgelord either :D
I would heavily recommend giving it a read, it has a good standard for grammar and the prose is enjoyable to read.

What attracted me was the its not the usual monster hacking glory hunting story. Largely succeeds in portraying the angst of taking another life and the grim description of a battle field. Dam but there is even bad weather, mud and crappy living conditions.
Gotta mention its a good read and not some grim dark novel give it a go and might just supprise you
    Good stuff keep it up

Considering this baby hardly even has 90 pages as of this review, I expected a lot rougher gem than what I read. Genuinely happy with how well this story has developed as normally stories this small and new are atroscious or bearable at best.
Aside from the very well written chapters, the story actually has a plot! I know, crazy right!?!?! Normally stories suffer under the inability to select a single thing for their MC to focus on, yet this guys already got his shit somewhat together! I don't know, that just really made this already good story a great one. Hes not OP, nor is he hiding some bloodline from his ancestors, hes just a normal kid making his way in a world infested with the darker side of humans and sub-humans alike. Can't wait to read more!

I really like the contrast of Malt and the others heroes, them being the light of the kingdom, fighting demons and Malt, being the shadow protecting the kingdom (hopefully in the future).
I really have nothing more to say and im looking forwards to future interactions between malt and the others, loving the story here.
Sorry for my english not my first language.

An early review of a story with a lot of potential. The premise is an interesting subversion of isekai/summoned hero tropes, with a protagonist that is summoned with pathetic stats compared to his superhuman classmates. Where it gets interesting is the contrast between the Northern front, where heroes go to fight powerful demons, and the Southern front, where the dregs of society are fighting for survival against another very human nation. Away from the glory and fantasy, Malt is beaten down and transformed by the overwhelming pressure of war into "Malt the Manslayer", a bloody hero more in line with Guts from Beserk than any well-coifed hero in ceremonial armor.
It's still early, but I think this story has a lot of potential. As Malt comes into his own, I'm interested to see how others will react to him, and how a manslayer tempered in the horrors of the Southern front will hold up again demons and heroes.

So this book, for me at least is a great fit, I described it as a Mary Poppins painting that I feel like I jumped in. I personally thought it took a commonly used premise with a nice spin on it, while it doesnt quite have the depth to it that I would like yet, and you can feel a little disconnected from the main character at certain moments, it is only what 12 chapters written so far? I think it has great potential, and if the author can realy utilize that potential well and take the time to make quality chapters consistantly I think this could be one of the best one the site. But thats my personal opinion, give it a try, whats the worst that could happen, you dont like it?

Overall was a fun read for what there is the world isnt anything special and the story starts with a weak mc  but unlike most of those power fantasies where he was secretly op all allong and was just hiding it or was to special to be read properly hes just a normal idiot kid making really poor life decisions and paying the price for it in a world that barely cares about him.
as i said in the title hiatus makes me sad, this story was a nice read with some cool potential. I mean it was a bit edgy but in an intresting kinda way it isnt perfect tho as many reviews have pointed out the prologue teaser might be a bit to far in the future as there isnt much indication it was coming any time soon but othe than that i was a good read.
i reccomend to peopleon the fence about this one to add it to their reading list and hope the author comes back a some point cuz as it stands the story gets dropped in the middle of an arc so it will leave u feeling very unsatisfied knowing there probably isnt going to be an update for a while.

Alright so, I only read the very start of the story but I feel like that's enough for me to get a feel on it and I'm really not convinced :
    - The heroes are meek and agreeable, to a dumb point. ("We get summoned in another world ?" = YAY ; "We have to fight now ?" = YAY) Plus, the relationship between them isn't explored enough before we get thrown in, so the side-characters feel irrelevant.
    - Our MC, after getting summoned and told he's basically sub-par and useless, feels inadequate after "eating without working" for ONE DAY after having been summoned into A WHOLE OTHER WORLD. Then he gets drafted in the dumbest way I've ever seen.
    - The introspection feels WEAK to say the least, only shallow thoughts, nothing in his freaking head : no plans, no stratey and no exploration of his emotions or anything worthwhile.
Something else that really bothered me was the really japan/isekai feel I got from the story : If I wanted that kinf of weak, generic, bland, overpopularised story, I would have read a stupid isekai manga, they are a dime a dozen and all the same.
Reading even those few chapters felt like a chore to me and I am writing all this basically to vent and put it all behind me.
Of course, I have, as I said at the very start, only read the first few chapters and my opinion is my own. 2.5 out of 5 cause while I hate the story, it's not badly written or anything (gotta give credit where it's due : the grammar is okay).
In conclusion, considering the story's been on hiatus for more than a year by the time I'm writing this, I wouldn't recommand it. Just skeem over chapter 1 & 2 and make up your own opinion !

Well, I swear i read hundreds of stories that have the same plot with little to no difference. I saw it on the trending list and said "Lets give it a chance". And it's a complete waste of time. If you didn't read too much isekai story, it might have an appeal on you, but otherwise don't start it. It is a mystery how this story still on the trending list.
TL:DR; Mc is a "shounen" isekai'd with some other kids (lol cool kid -not the mc- even has two generic girls with him). Other kids crazy strong, this kid isn't. So this kid trying to become useful in army (I forgot to add the psychopathy part. Yes, the kid turns into a senseless killing machine even real quick). Boring story, boring characters. Nothing special.

The Concept is an old one with a bit of a twist. The execution of the book leaves a lot to be desired from poor Dialogue to pacing; it just feels rushed and completely artificial. The author tries to make the world gritty and brutal and demonstrate the mental and emotional Fatigue of war but it just doesn't really land. I could go on but those are the main points. When you compare the book to ones in the same genre on RR like The Gilded Hero you can see the book has a ways to go. Saying that the author seems to be aware of this and is working on it so I would not give up all hope yet. I would wait for a rewrite before getting too attached to the book. Also I like to apologize for any spelling or grammar mistakes, Dyslexia is not fun.
