- ZoomzeminRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I would like to say first that I have really enjoyed this story. The language that is tripping up a lot of other reviewers is more of a selling point for me. I like the density of meaning that is on display here, because it gives a different feel and pacing to the story than most of the content on RR. The writing is coming at you fast, and does not have time to explain four times why that person is upset or why this other person just jumped to some wild conclusion, just go go go. There is a frenetic pace to the story that is missing in a lot of stories that have an MC that is supposed to be thinking 10,000 times human speed or whatever, and a lot of credit for the feeling of drive has to go to the word choice and other style choices like the use of links to other media.
I really appreciate the well developed world with politics and relationships that feel thought out and well introduced. Lots of crunchy bits about culture and language sprinkled on top like bacon bits. I like all the supporting characters and how they interact with the MC and each other. All that being said, the characters and story are the places I have marked down a bit. The MC is a bit too much like a wrecking ball, a chaotic force of disruption that is changing the course of the entire world in a time frame that puts a hurricane to shame.
Don't get me wrong. I like the MC, he has a good humanizing motive and the transition between worlds has not removed his conscience as so frequently happens in this type of story. There just does not seem to be much in the way of opposition to the changes the MC represents up to this point. The people most likely in favor of the status quo seem very unprepared for the pace the MC is setting, and so far they have only served as comic relief at best and cannon fodder at worst.
So yeah, great story; I just hope someone puts the MC on his butt once or twice to establish some stakes beyond some foreshadowing.
Also, great music references! - 13 worlds @ kicking the sunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thank you for the chapters
What's 1 of the most original ones to make it to the rising star list All the rest of them Have something to deal with systems
Remember to always keep the ordinary the extraordinary and the practical
The ordinary is on a personal level The extraordinary is the world around them and what they discover about power and energies and whatever is a Amazing. And the practical is there so you don't create any loopholes that will bring your story down
Now ordinary example: The best (superman) Stories are the ones when they talk about his ordinary life and the things he can't affect with his superpowers
Now Extraordinary Example: (Generic system) Having a small ordinary power then bending it Finding applications for it researching it Breaking it down to understand it and turning into something amazing
Now Practical example: (Lord of the rings) They could have just Fly on top of giant eagles To get there - AutumnOceanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just like the MC, the title of this story is misleading, but ultimately both good-natured and hellishly fun. The packaging says Shop Management. The actual inside is rattling around and breaking all the loopholes. And, just to title drop the review, this story is a rippingly good page turner.
The synopsis is more accurate in terms of breaking the game - it is fun, and intelligent, and has elements of mystery in it, in that it encourages you to figure out where it's going next. I've not seen much that is far too obscured from the reader and in those cases I'm fairly content to wait, as it is glorious shenaniganry.
It is both fantastical and fantastic, and it's seriously worth many, many reads. It's about loopholes in contracts, breaking them in outlandish ways, while still being a semi-wholesome slice-of-life. I am captivated, and I eagerly crave more, more, more. Gimme more candy for my brain! Gimme more chaos and entire social disruption based on sheer Audacity!
This entire story is about an older man, perhaps of a little questionable morals, with plenty of years of lawyer experience and a recent loss of his other half, voluntarily transmigrating via contract to a light-novel style fantasy world. And deliberately abusing all the loopholes to give himself the biggest possible advantage to get there. Featuring no harem, very little cute waifus (although one cute daughteru) despite the C-/J- light novel shtick (but plenty of Amazing Bros) and no endless quest to get His Beloved Lover back, it instead focuses on pinballing wildly from Situation to Situation, abusing every loophole along the way as possible.
In short, it's basically a standard cheatcode transmigration, if the genre was comedy/slice of life minus the usual focus on status quo maintenance, the main character was mentally... Maybe late 20s/early-30s-ish? in both logic and emotional maturity, and had a trickster bent rather than being mentally 13-16 and having a rock for a head that replaces their actual so - I Love BS Wise CharactersRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Please ignore the reviews that state the language is too hard to parse. If you've read anything beyond YA you'll quickly fall into the rabbit hole the author digs.
I think this will be a story to watch and will likely be another "Beware of Chicken" with a few editing passes.
Not for anything about the technical skill, but the overwhelming hope the author has.
Unless this goes grimdark or steps on a hate rake, but I don't feel that yet. - CrackferretRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just got to the negotiation with the shop entity. That was funny stuff. I am already sold and the author have to really stuff up for me to stop reading. I like the conciet of the setup and the amount of costomication that went into the start of the story was very nice. Favorited and followed.
Keep up the good work :) - Njoi19Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A good read. interesing way the MC is able to bring items with him, being a lawyer is able to alter the contract for travel. Meets up with a top lawyer from the land he has appeared on and a top priest of one of the Gods, also is able to become friends with said God.
- TashikiDRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I'm giving this 4 stars because I really enjoy having an author write with what I assume is a natural form of vocabulary for them, without dumbing it down to an 10th grade level or similar. This is a complex, convoluted, and highly detailed work.
With that said, I feel like I'm reading the second or third novel in a series, where large parts of the worldbuilding, character development, social interactions, mechanics, etc have already been well established in the readers mind. I don't mean "leave some up to the readers imagination", I mean that it feels like I forgot a ton of previously introduced world-history and technical knowledge that is important to understand what's occuring.
Within a dozen chapters we have dozens of named characters, many of whom seem to actually be somewhat important, we have the "introduction" (Which feels like a reintroduction) of a slew of in-universe-mechanics, often more than one introduced in the same chapter with little applied theory outside of the complex descriptors and maybe a few thoughts from the MC. When the author gets around to "applying" some of the theory, it's often done by 3rd tier characters "off screen" with almost only complex technical notes denoting what they discussed (e.g. complex alchemical formulas and interactions based on a mechanic that was introduced only a chapter or two before with no ramp-up in complexity). Frankly, I feel like I need to be an alchemist myself to have a hope of actually getting what the author wants to convey (and I've read a ton of novels with different forms of alchemy).
When we get to our fight scene in chapter 25.5, for some reason the author changes the format of the writing, and hides the whole thing in a spoiler tag. The use of the MCs powers to switch his energy from aspect to aspect seems like a very interesting mechanic, but the reader doesn't have a chance to learn about it from a foundational principles perspective, and instead has to scramble to figure out how it works in the - ParadoxicallyInsaneRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This is a tough one, initially I liked that this story respected me enough as a reader to not need to explain every little thing and info dump like so many other stories do...however, it almost goes too far the other direction, i found myself needing to re-read several paragraphs and/or sentences to figure out what was happening in the scene. Yet, I still found the story intrigueing.
An edit to increase clarity might be in order. (Hopefully this was constructive and not just critical).
p.s. minor gripe: this may be premature but I started reading because the concept of a magic item shop drew me in...nothing really shop related has happened so far... - Elena-RavenwoodRoyal Road★★★ 2.5This kind of stylistic writing is too heavy for something so lighthearted? Demon and magic can be mysterious, but the heart of this story is interacting with local people, similar to harvest moon and hopefully selling products for the townsfolk (which hasn't happened yet)? And the way they converse with each other, with this excessive respect like they're afraid of being accused of cultural appropriation and getting canceled seems weird. I cant imagine real people talking like that, which makes it hard to be immersive.
- DangerDaniganRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The story itself is honestly compelling and interesting. The problem is that it's nearly incomprehensible. It's almost written like Beat stream of consciousness on a benzo rip. I honestly wish I had any idea what was happening most of the time, because I wholly feel like, if I did, I would really enjoy this story. Probably. If what I'm understanding I actually understand.
