Description
A story about a history teacher gaming-addict with familial trauma, and a peculiar woman seemingly stuck out of time and beyond out of touch. The two have been thrust into the weird and whimsical world of Altros, a planet with divides born of very real superhuman strength courtesy of an odd ranking system, and, naturally, species differences. Not exactly the best of news for our resident Scottish history teacher whose ears have changed into fox ones alongside his nine new fluffy tails. First though, Darren, or Lone, or whatever else the weird system claims he's called, has to figure out how to live with his new companion Sofia, for seemingly forever while also just barely managing to survive being stranded on a monster-infested island with a self-proclaimed former-immortal who can see despite being blind, can freely teleport, and who also, of course, seems prone to experiencing bouts of extreme depression. Not an ideal situation when he himself hasn't been in a great headspace for over a decade now. But hey, at least there's an incredibly expansive litRPG system to keep the both of them entertained, right? That'll fight off the fear of death, surely. [Goal of 1 chapter per week, the only exceptions being announced breaks or emergencies, but in reality, my current release rate is about 1 chapter a month.] The cover art is courtesy of the very kind and talented ssddx. I have not posted this on Amazon. If you find it there, it's been stolen.

While I appreciate the authors desire to keep the original story I'm personally hoping it will get dropped in favor of this one. If I had money to spare I would glad join the patreon to try and push for that option. - AzelWardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Only a few chapters in and I am already in love with the story. - SergeandgreenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I gotta say, I'm really enjoying this story. The main character is well-developed, and the love interest is a real standout, quite a unique character. They both have some pretty overpowered abilities, and I can understand if someone might take issue with how easily the MC gets powered up because of his cheats.
But hey, if you can look past that, this story is a real gem. Sure, the MC's abilities are a bit on the broken side, but what's cool is how he works to make the most of them.
Unlike other stories, here you get to witness almost every skill upgrade and level up, which really sucks you into the MC's journey to power. Yeah, sometimes these level-up chapters can take up a chunk of the story, but it's still pretty satisfying.
Now, the one gripe I have is that the characters don't seem to have a clear goal beyond just getting stronger for the sake of bigger numbers (yeah, there is always someone bad out there, but a goal beyond surviving would be nice). It doesn't make them feel empty, but it's kinda unclear where the story's headed, giving it a bit of a slice-of-life vibe, even though it doesn't seem like it's aiming to be that kind of story. That's why I knocked off a star from the story rating.
On the bright side, the writing style is top-notch. I love how the author handles the system and gives the characters distinctive accents and traits that really draw you into the story.
All in all, this is one of the better Litrpg stories out there. The progression is spot on, the characters and the world are pretty cool, and I'd recommend it to anyone who's into stories with romance, epic battles, and leveling up. However, if you're looking for a constant struggle or an MC who pushes all ethical boundaries for power, this might not be your cup of tea.
Ps: The Author is also quite nice and if you ask questions he takes his time to answer them, which is also a plus. - Sirknight922Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fun adventure, not bad at all if you go into it with an open mind and get to know the characters.
I don't have to much else to say about it. Give it a go and mind the content warnings. The writing is clearly looked after quite well, and you can tell that the author cares enough about the story and plot to push it forward in a way that makes sense.
Thank you, author for the adventure. - Thall230Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not the best at writing advanced reviews but here it goes.
So I read the original and have now a couple years later decided to catch up on the rewrite, and I have to say it's almost totally different, and better for that difference.
However, I believe there is a clear change in personality that is kind of abrupt and a little grating in the mc's. I think it's between book 2 and 3 where it seems like Lone, Soph and Sophia just change their personality and it's a bit jarring. Don't misunderstand, I like the changed personalities, but the change just wasn't really expected, it just seemed to happen. I understand there was a bit of a time skip, so maybe the time skip just needs a bit of work to make it transition better, as of right now I feel like I missed out on a lot of character development.
The only other thing I don't like and think feels off is the new enemy in book three. It's just like this big guillotine hanging over the mc's heads and I guess it's probably more of a personal issue cause I just really wanted almost a smooth transition to greater power before running into a overarching threat. Or maybe it's just the way the enemy is written? I don't know I might just be nitpicking.
Anyways, I do believe this rewrite to be a major and amazing improvement, it is clear that the author Lone has put a great deal of work and effort into this story and still continues to do so.
If you enjoy litrpg storys, give it a read, you won't regret it. - TyrialRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This re-write is a massive improvement over the original. If anyone has read the original and is hesitent to read it again as a re-write I strongly encourage you to do so. This is a whole differnt book. The original (had I rated it at the time) would likely have gotten a 2 or 3 stars from me. This re-write? Easy 5 stars no question. Not sure I've ever seen an author improve so obvously to this degree. This book is excelent. Can't wait to read the rest of the re-write.
- santoryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Congratulation For The Rebirth.
I tried to read the old version of the story before, but I could not, and drop it after a few chapters, but this rewrite is a solid novel that deserves to be read. The only thing I want to say is about your schedule, you should flip it and write the main story once a week until you catch the rewrite with it, because I think the only one reading the main story are the people who got stuck with it from the beginning, I do not think any new readers can read the old version specially after reading the rewrite.
After I finished reading the rewrite of the novel, I thought to complete reading the novel from the old version, but man ohh man, it is very bad. I could not even read one chapter, I felt the same feeling I felt when I read it for the first time, it does not deserve even to be rated. So I understand your feeling when you said “I refuse to keep the old versions up” because I feel the same way. You have developed your writing by a colossal margin from story, style and characters. Over all, I will not be reading the old version, I feel embarrassed reading a novel like that. I have confidence to say that you earned a place up there (writers’ heaven). - 999999Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0this story is one of my favorite storys and well worth my time and i love this story and i hope you will to
- FischerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Despite not reading the original, many reviews have shown that the MC in it was terrible, aggressive, and had bad morals all around. This rewrite however, doesn't come anywhere close to giving off that feeling. It's a fun journey between a nine-tailed fox and an adorable human. The story has somewhat slow progression, but has been entertaining all the way through. There's a balance between lighthearted and serious, giving enough of both. I love the characters' reactions and their relationships, many stories fail to land this. I'm glad to have spent my time reading this, and hopefully much more of it for future chapters.
Thank you.
