- KorielRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Great story, really enjoy it. Read more than what's posted on RR but theres one thing which made me stop reading it.
I love drama and I do love stories that make it hard on their main character and make you feel emotions. But when they take it a little too far, then it stops being enjoyable for me and becomes almost like watching a snuff film.
Its not nearly as bad as the story "Pact" by Wildbow, but man does this poor guy get beaten down. He really does get strong over the course the story, but the fact that it still feels this way despite him getting powerful is a testament to the story. It's really a great cup of tea, but well. Not for me.
Over time the poor guy becomes increasingly isolated from society. He started isolated but nearly everything he encounters reinforces the idea that he is alone in a desolate world. Any help and happiness he experiences is nice, but brief and a setup to a greater sadness, betrayal or somthing that further reinforces his isolation. In a way the main character represents a type of purity and everything he encounters shows that the world is impure and filled with various impurities or vices. He only finds comfort in the woods, with animals and in the alien desolate wasteland, usually alone, away from the corrupting influences of people and society at large. He really strives to get comfort from the world, looks for the world to accept him and stand by him, but the world can't help but let him down.
He increases his strength to survive. Not in the general sense of he must get strong. But because he will nearly always be alone in the unkind world. I always held out hope that I was wrong, and that the world is not as unkind as it is presented and that it will help him out. And it does help him out on occasion, but it never feels like its enough. That's why it is great. But unfortunately my hope was misplaced, and the world is unkind. I don't think the main character is able to the fix the world, fix humanity, fix all o
