- GrimkahnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Lichen leech is a rather niche title in that it falls under (or feels more like) a kindof Supernatural/folklore genre, however just because it isn't standard swords and sorcery doesn't mean it isn't good. The grammer is top notch, some of the best I've seen on this site, there is no overarching plot but I think a story like this would be more character focused anyways. Speaking of the character's, the novel splits it's attention between 3 main characters, each with they're own unique tale to tell. This hasn't really been a problem for me, seeing as how they and the world they live in is so fleshed out, although I can see it being a problem that others would be turned away by.
Anyways, what else can I say? Good characters, good grammar, unique setting, with the only turn offs being the 3 main chars and the inconsistent release schedule. It's an acquired taste but definitely give it a try.
(Ps: my favorite of the MC's is Cain 😁) - OhmwuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A unique and incredibly entertaining story about the relationship between humanity and the wild.
The descriptions of Rowan's increasingly feral thoughts and feelings makes you want to jump out of your skin and start howling at the moon yourself, the author really captures that sense of longing, the call of the wild.
Grammar and spelling is damn near perfect. Sentences are short, tasty morsels that will make you want more with every full stop you meet. Description is neatly embellished and drives the story forward without getting tangled up.
Another review called Lichen Leech criminally underrated and I have to agree. If you like the untamed wilds and the inherent horror of an unknown world: Read this novel. After chapter three it also has some gamelit elements, which I don't normally enjoy but the author executes it very skillfully. - JefferymoonwormRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story was a pleasantly unique find among the usual stories on here and had been a wonderful read.
The story is set in a world remmant of folk-law and fairy tales, with elements of tradtional fanasty sprinkled in. The story is set in a new human town, on the frontier of mysterous magic land, This land is full of strange creatures, changlings, monsters and beasts that do their best to trick, hunt and kill those poor people who come into there grasp. The very land itself seems to be alive and trying to kill, entire forests move over night, landmarks dispear, logic and phsyics has no say in these untamable lands as humanity struggles to surrive.(The world buildimg is beautifully organic and unique).
But this story isn't about humanity, we follow three main characters, all monsterous changlings; Rowan, a werewolf and an artist who hates to kill but revels in it at the same time, Cain, a new-born innubus demon attemting to surrive while also indulging in his demonic desires and Luhnan, a confused displaces magical plant, as they all attempt to surrive in this world facing threat from humans that want them dead, other changelings and there own monsterous natures.
It isn't very often that monster characters read like geniune non-human monsters, however lichen leech pulls it off and was a great find in the non-human tag.
Style 4 stars: The story starts off very dark in tone, however as the author finds their pace and the story gets going it settles on a more lighter tone while still mantaining the fun gore, delightly devious characters and darker elements. My only complaint is a minor one, the LitRPG style blue boxes in Luhnan chapters did feel odd, especially as the story had been very dark up to that point, but as previosuly mentioned, once the story finds its footing and tone these quickly became the comedic element they were intened and aren't that intrusive to begin with.
Story 5 stars: The pacing is smooth and the author doesn't rush into insantly esbalishing the
