The Library once stood proud as a beacon of magic and power.
For 500 years, it has been broken.
In ages past, Librarians trained their assistants, passed the stewardship on as one retired to the next. A perfect cycle, just like the purification of the mana it recycled through the known universe. Everything within the balance of knowledge and power. Then 500 years ago, the system broke. No potential Librarians could be found. In a last desperate attempt to locate a Librarian, the Library of Everywhere reached out, past the magical worlds it served, to one where magic didn't usually exist. From there, it plucked the sole compatible magical signature it could find and brought her back to the library.Quinn had just been having a quick existential crisis in her college library. Now as the new Librarian, all she has to do is battle some engorged bookworms, sort through and repair all the damaged books, find and unlock all internal mana pathways, figure out why and how all other potential librarians vanished, and reboot the mana filtration system before all of the magic in the universe runs wild. And once that’s done? There are 18,042 overdue magical books on the loose. And people told her Library Science would be a boring career.
What to expect:
- The system is broken. Rebuilding it is a major focus.- A weak to strongerslow burn. The MC will have a lot to learn.- Stats exist but only surface as the system (including its manifestation) rebuilds- There are a lot of books in this transdimensional Library. Some get harmed. (Sorry)- The magic system is vast and can even confuse the Library itself (Not sorry).- This is a very lightly edited draft - so it's pretty rough- Chapters post (2+ times weekly)

- SaibinuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have read 16 chapters so far and I like it. Your style is something that I personally like very much. And this is the third person singular story writing. The other is the introduction of the characters. It doesn't happen all at once and immediately, as if you were just making a list, but you weave it into the story, bit by bit. I said... I like it. Thanks!
- ZadiesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great book glad I was introduced to it during JordanCon. I am enjoying the library setting and I really like the vibe of the book. I think it has a number of different interesting ideas going on and like the style of the writing. I also like the choice of animals.
- Uncharted BloodlinesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Back in my college days, Library Science wasn’t an option, but I really wish it was! Who wouldn't want to get lost in the magic of libraries? For me reading Library System Reset: Overdue feels like uncovering a hidden treasure. The allure of a magical library, ley lines spanning the universe and beyond, and the wonderful Quinn really drew me in. I’m happy to say I loved reading this story as much as I thought I would. And I know I will continue to do so.
Style: The storytelling in this one is like a comforting embrace. The author effortlessly blends the magical with the ordinary, creating a world where bookworm battles and repairs become a normal part of Quinn’s new life.
Grammar: Overall, the writing is smooth and polished with minor typos that are barely noticeable. The author's attention to detail elevates the prose, make it such enjoyable read.
Story: Rebuilding a broken magical system might sound like a daunting task, but the author effortlessly infuses it with relatable moments. Powerful ley lines, a determined Quinn, and a library in need of fixing—what's not to love? I feel it is worth mentioning again how well this story balances the extraordinary with the everyday. The pacing worked its magic too, allowing me to really feel like I was getting to know Quinn as well as I would a good friend. As the story unfolds the dynamics of her new relationship with Lynx (or Links:) didn’t feel rushed, making it more engaging with a lovely mix of humor and heartfelt moments.
Character: Quinn is the kind of character I can't help but adore. A tough start, a likable demeanor, and a determination that refuses to quit—she's the beating heart of the narrative. And the supporting cast? A shape-shifting avatar, a sassy bench—each character adds layers of charm and surprise. I love Lynx and Dottie.
Reading Library System Reset: Overdue brought me on a journey into a world where magic meets the everyday struggles we all face. The system is well laid out and thoughtfully placed wi - Henrik SaetreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0OVERALL SCORE: 5/5 Stars
This story swept me away to a place (read: Library) brimming...no...devoid of magic, but thats a plot point, and a good thing from the story perspective, even if it is not for the universe. But, the MC and her sidekick Lynx is intriguing and fun to say the least, and the scope of this idea is massive!
In the first five chapters it sets up A LOT of promises, and I perceive that this story has the ability to deliver on it.
STYLE SCORE: 5/5
The writing is simply sublime, bringing the scenes to life. The majority of sentences flows lyrically, immersing me in scenes that felt real.
STORY SCORE: 5/5
The premise hints at an expansive tale filled with creative worldbuilding and plenty of adventure. Makes me fondly think of the unseen university and its library, although this is a completely different tone. But it has something similar to that Terry created. A library with a soul. I'm hooked and can't wait to discover more!
CHARACTER SCORE: 5/5
Quinn feels real. A little slow on the acceptance of being Isekai'ed, but that is always a challenging part. Its done better here than I am able to for sure. The interaction with Lynx has been great so far and I am confident it will continue to get better.
Overall, this is fantastic storytelling. Rich prose, an immersive world, and characters that drew me in. Highly recommended.
Now I'm on to read about the slaying of the bookworms! - Hodges63Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The first chapters are well written and have a solid hook to pull the reader into this world, providing the background that the reader needs though the experiences of Quinn - the out-of-this-world librarian. I'm looking forward to continuing this story and tagging along on the adventures of the magical library's newest librarian.
- TJ LombardiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a wonderful and creative concept to this awesome genre! I am really enjoying this approach and am super excited to keep diving in to this story. The characters are relatable and I love the attitudes and vibes I am getting from them. Love, love, love! This is a huge success and going to be a smashing good series!
- Luccio3Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love it. I like the concept, new twist on the genre plus libraries are just awesome! Please keep it mostly slice of life with just a tad bit of dealing with a big bad. So many stories devolve into constant crisis mode and become really annoying. Keep up the good work.
- Striker713Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is really one of the best series I’ve ever read. Magical libraries are one of my favorite tropes, and this is everything I’ve ever wanted out of a magical library.
Quinn, the main character, is dropped into a magical universe as the librarian of a vast living library full of dangers, long-lost secrets, and challenges around every corner.
I loved it from the first chapter, but it only gets better as Quinn learns new magics, opens the library to the denizens of the magical universe, and makes new allies and enemies.
Can’t recommend this series enough! - NaginiFayRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Amazing story so far. The premise is novel, the MC is isekaied to a magical library outside the universe, rather than to a new world, and she arrives without the information and magical preparation she was supposed to have. To top that off, the library is on its last legs and its alienly handsome personification is seriously glitchy.
Needs a little more editing, mostly some inconsistencies in names and whether one of the characters is a son or grandson of another, a few words sound alike errors, like bow and bough. - Hellothere_1Royal Road★★★★ 4.0When a progression fantasy is centered around a library and the main protagonist being a librarian, to me that comes with certain expectations: Love towards the act of reading on the one hand, and the story being centered around knowledge (and knowledge being power) on the other.
Unfortunately this story kind of fails at both of these.
To start off, as head librarian our protagonist doesn't actually need to read anything, she can just grab a book and absorb the knowledge within, provided she fulfills certain requirements. Effectively this means that this story has no cozy reading corners, no pages being turned, and no "sequestrating yourself away from the world for hours to sink yourself into some book".
That's somewhat disappointing, but "telepathically absorbing knowledge from books via magic" is a concept you could totally make work. That's not where the story lost me.
Where the story really lost me is a the second theme of knowledge.
I described what the protagonist is doing earlier as "absorbing knowledge from books" and that's also how it's described in the story, but it doesn't seem to be what's actually happening.
Like, at one point the protagonist absorbs a book on Ice Magic 101 and afterwards she's able to shoot icicles from her hands, but she's never described thinking about the mechanics of how that actually works, and she still needs to have basic questions about mana and magic affinities answered by other characters afterwards - stuff that absolutely should be covered in a beginners book making novices proficient enough at ice magic to throw icicles. Shortly after she needs someone to explain to her what effect shielding magic has, after she literally just absorbed a book on shielding magic and cast her first body reinforcement spell.
Overall it feels less like the protagonist actually absorbs the information written in the book and learns the relevant skills from that, and more like the act of absorbing a book just unlocks a list of skills she can use
