Uncharted territory, a beautiful island in the middle of the seas, radiating with lush plant life. It was the ideal destination for eight adventurers, gathered from various places to explore the unknown. A seeming paradise concealed by the gods, shining with the blessing of the Elyfesta, the Lifegiver showering its light to all.
And then the light went out.

- Evelyn AdelbergRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Excellent grammar, excellent flow.
The setting is also cool, I like how it reminds me of DnD 5e (with the magic and alchemy being so close interlinked). And I love the mystery elements of it.
The one thing that could be improved is giving characters a physical description. But they all have distinct voices, so it’s not like they’re easy to mix up. - James TadhgRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Expeditions? An actual adventuring party? Creepy atmospheric horror? Those are just a few of the awesome things this story has done well so far. It's still early as only a few chapters are currently up to read, but so far the author paints a vivid picture of an intriguing story.
I'll start with the strongest trait: the atmosphere. The chapters aren't slow, a lot happens in the seven I've read (there's a huge time jump early on), but they feel methodical, in the creeping dread sort of way, like a fog slowly rolling in over a mysterious island.
And that's exactly what our story focuses on. There's a island, where weird things are happening, and there's a tower, where weirder things are happening. Despite the attention the author pays to describing the island and building the world, not much is actually explained. They write a careful balance of giving us quite a lot to immerse us in the shoes of the characters, but not enough to give us a sense of what's realyl going on--a good thing. I have a lot of questions that may or may not be answered in time.
There are a lot of characters as we are introduced immedaitely to an adventuring party of eight. A real adventuring party, where everyone has specialities and things that they're extra good at. Right away I got an Indiana Jones vibe, if Indiana Jones was written by H.P Lovecraft.
The only downside I noticed was that I didn't really get a sense of how the characters are all that different from each other in the way they behave. This isn't really the author's fault, as it's still early and it's a difficult task introducing a reader to eight of them in the very first chapter, so I didn't want to deduct from the score. There's still plenty of time to develop, and I hope the author does find ways to make them very distinct besides their party roles.
There wasn't much wrong with grammar, and everything felt like it flowed nicely.
I highly recommend this read to anyone looking for an atmospheric expedition story, as there aren't - ThirdSunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, this was enjoyable to read. It feels like I'm dropped into a world alongside a main character who finds it just as interesting and amazing as I do. The world itself feels old brimming with discovery and opportunity. There are moments of dread that hint at dangers. The opening gives insight into the stakes and sets the tone for the rest of the read.

In terms of style and story the idea of following a band of characters as they discover lands that no one has touched set in a world full of real dangers is intrigueing. The party is mostly made of experienced adventurers and while their attitudes are appropriate I hope that in the future we learn more about their pasts. The thing is I don't know if their important or not. As the reader, I can tell the author really loves them but I haven't been given a reason to care about them, yet. I want to though.
The pacing and grammar don't dissapoint. There was no point when I was pulled from the story, except for when I ran out of content to read.
I had questions about the magic system which gives me a reason to want to read more. I wasn't sure about a specific detail though, if the gem Istha has contains her family magic how do others in her family use magic? Whether or not this is a continuity error doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the story. Just something I noticed.
The idea that there is this ancient relic with an agenda of it's own is captivating. So much so I find myself wanting it to succeed, just to see what happens. On this topic, I'm not used to reading fantasy so this could be a fault of my own, but the history of the world seemed to escape me at times. I couldn't remember what Elyfesta was, I kept thinking it was the name of the ship. I had to look back to clarify, which is fine the story was good enough to make me want to go back.

I'd recommend this story to friends. I even told my wife about it. Glad I got to read it.
