- srikiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far so good. A classic "Overpowered charaters out of place/time" kind of story. Love Boom and really enjoy the descriptions of the interactions between characters - very entertaining. While over the top at times, it makes the world feel real which is important for a fantasy setting.
Its very clear that each chapter could be translated into a webtoon chapter. Overall a great start to another overpowered story! - ElyssiusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Big fan of how the author has an interesting take on the tried and true hero's journey, excited to see where he takes it from here. Don't wanna spoil anything but his latest chapter knocks it out of the park as usual.
Always enjoyed reading MikeWe's novels, even have his stuff on my e-reader, and I highly recommend you check out his other work as well - vernkeithRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The only real issue I have is that there is not more.
Honestly this story is a fun read. If you're looking for a fun satirical take on litrpg, then this story is for you. The Mc's are real people with real issues. Though the author really likes his pop culture references. - LionardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel is really well written.
Great worldbuilding, great characters, great usage of words.
While little background and history of anyone or anything is usually explicitly written out, it feels like for every chapter there are three chapters worth of lore behind the scenes.
Binge reading to now, the writing doesnt get repetative or annoying, the characters hold emotion, reason and its overall fun to read.
The plot is one that i think no other book as ever had in this way, so its a nice and refreshing change in between all the copies of other litrpgs on the site. - Miranda HeraldRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A retired hero is not the kind of epic fantasy I usually read, but I am loving it. This story is great read that drew me right in. I especially like Kandy eyeing up the great sword, lol. Great characters with engaging personalities, nothing boring about them. I can't wait to keep reading!
- PhilologianRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A gripping tale of heroism which transported me into a new world. Loved the story and where it feels like it’s going. Can’t wait to read future installments. Hope to see the dynamic between Boom and Kandy grow and how future characters play into it. Really felt like I was getting a picture into this world. Really excited to see how the world develops as well as the characters.
- no1relat0Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The overall story has been very well thorough behind the power of their characters. The first 1-2 chapters highlighted the strength of the main characters(initial) which settled the initial standard of strength that was to be expected that people were to be at that sort of level to be considered in this retirement utopia.
I did read the synopsis and the Lord of Goblins part, you being the author. But I had forgotten later in the story, it was nice to relearn it. I've had fond memories reading the Lord of Goblins webtoon and I've since been looking forward in this novel. Like it was so unexpected, its been so long for me to remember the title again but the the author be in this site like dam.
I'm sort of still thinking how the world progressed and regressed in their technological development. Like, I think its a really common troupe but then again they dont reallly elaborate on how, its usually only to the extent that went with the 'scientists of an advanced civilization knew nothing of their hubris and tried to harness power beyond their understanding, then they went extinct' sort of thing.
Not to burden the author, but the story has been fantastic, though the ice cream part was indeed weird, but it was alright haha. - Dead NettleRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Just begun reading it, and while not exactly my thistle patch, it is rather good and a fun read.
Personally feel like some of the characters would possibly have a more jaded perspective, or that there may be more cynical/manipulative with higher positions of power and age. This being said, there is evidence of this being shown slowly, and any difficulty doing so is understandable as most of us don't truly experience those characteristics to a pure degree. - FoundInRaidRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The story is good but it gets dragged down by too many perspective changes and 10 chapter long side stories as soon as it gets interesting which causes me to not even wanna see what happens. Don’t let me stop you from reading it though it’s just not my cup of tea.
- vladeragRoyal Road★★ 2.0I think, overall, that this story is an example of why the "comedy" tag is such a curse. The difference between an "action novel" and "a novel that contains action" is not fundamentally that great, whereas the difference between "a comedy" and "a novel with comedic elements," can be an unbridgeable gap. Worse still, comedy is a genre peculiar in that it rarely does half measures. Something is either funny, or it isn't. There is often no difference, from the reader's perspective, between failed comedy and bad comedy. Things like Action or Adventure don't need to succeed so much as they need to not fail.
In other words: there are good, bad, and acceptable action novels and there are good, bad, and acceptable adventure novels, but there are only good or bad comedy novels.
And of course, comedy is even more subjective than other tastes; a comedian often walks the line between award-winning, awkward, and arrested. So anything tagged "comedy" is an inherent risk for both writer and reader. A sizable percentage of a comedian's audience will hate them no matter what, and a sizable percentage of what a reader consumes will come across as crap no matter what.
All of which is to say: I don't find this story remotely funny, and so from my perspective it is kind of crap.
