Description
Sixteen year old Zhou Hou is one of fifty new initiates to the Seven Striking Thunder Sect, seeking to earn the ultimate prize: living godhood. But what Hou - actually Zhou Hui Ying, youngest daughter of the Zhou - wants is vengeance against the sect elder who killed her family. And if a mortal has no chance against an ancient, wicked cultivator, then she will become immortal, even though it means joining a male-only sect notorious for its villainy.

This is a slow burn cultivation story starting from the very ground up.

I have a preference for stories with female protagonists, and it's relatively rare to find one among Xianxia stories, especially if you're looking for a good book, so I'm happy with this; our protagonist is intelligent, cautious, compassionate, and generally everything I appreciate. The secondary characters, well, are sufficiently characterized, I don't think I'm emotionally attached to any of them, but I find it to be a nice cast of distinguishable characters and that's already a lot considering the average Xianxia. If I really had to make a negative comment about this story, it'd be that I don't find anything original in it. There are the usual tropes of the genre, well represented, of course. The motivations behind the protagonist's journey are as old as human history, but I have the feeling it could be set in any world. I don't know, I have the feeling, I don't know how accurately, that it's all a bit generic? Maybe its just me. Despite this, I think the work is worth it, and it can only improve with time. Once again, it's been a pleasure to follow so far.
