Description

Torn from her life, pulled away from her family, and thrown before the worst of the new world, Korra Grey fights fang and claw to take back the semblance of normalcy that was stolen from her. Not an easy quest when the world seems hell-bent on making her life anything but what she wishes for.

»Transported to another world (isekai) fantasy story with litRPG elements and a touch of Slice of Life. A story not rushed, yet full of monsters, beasts, and enemies from the ranks of humans threatening to take everything that is dear to the non-op-MC.«

This is a rewrite of Lament of the Slave, a story I couldn't give up and believe deserves a second chance. In many aspects the story will be different, and in others, similar to the old one. In no way, however, do I dare say that you will find the story perfect. But I guess that's for you to judge.

Cover: Art by . . . Me :)

Although I'm working on a new one.

  • While it is a rewrite it has quite a lot of differences. I think they are for the better, but the story starts a lot darker. Basically a typical Isekia except the kidnapper is a jerk. Starts off well after the kidnapping, but before the escape. Great so far

For those like me a little squeamish:
At chapter 11 is when she breaks free.

This is a reboot of Lament of the Slave, very decent novel here on RR, and it’s great. Even when I already know what general direction the story will take it’s still thrilling to read and I still worry about fate of main character, the storytelling is that good and I would say absorbing. I have read all chapters without breaks. New details and plot changes make this version a little darker, but more interesting so far. And of course the writing improved greatly.
In conclusion: this is an exemplary remake, it keeps the spirit of original story but with refined and improved storytelling. And I couldn’t ask for more.

So after reading the previous book I couldn't help but read the rewrite. One thing that stood out to me the most was the new system. I don't want to spoil anything, but the system is definitely one of the more unique ones I have seen in a while. I also think the rewrite brings a good degree of of change from the original. It's not simply just some fixing of grammar or a few changes in dialog, it almost feels as if I'm reading a new story with the same characters and setting.
If I had one thing to gripe about, it would have to be the length of the chapters, they are just a wee bit short. I started reading the rewrite the day before yesterday and I've already caught up to chapter 102. The story is just too good to put down and have such short chapters.
The next bit is just a little bit spoilery
Seriously no joke only a little though
I do like the new role they give dungreen in the beginning as well as expanding on The Fray a little. A lot of the information that was given almost what seemed haphazardly in the previous book has been better organized and feels more fluid.
A few more things I like about the rewrite is the Leaning into the title lament of the lost. The introduction of the Beast part of the main character in the first few chapters. And last but not least expanding on dungreen's character. In the previous book we didn't get a good look at what his character was really like, I feel like we get a better idea of his position in the world now.

This is a rewrite of an already good story that suffered from some pretty severe plot holes. As of my current reading the plot holes have been patched up or I have missed them, which is still a win in my book.
    What you need to know:
This is a litrpg-esque story that takes the high fantasy route over the RPG route. This system feels like a giant magic machine that seems to have structured magic in order to democratize it. A woven tapestry of power overlaying the world. The system here reflects the world, not the other way around.
The MC doesn't get to start with the conventional isekai start. The cheat to power she is given traumatized her in such a way that she is a shell of her former self and justifiably scared of said powers to an unhealthy degree. Coming to terms with that power is a struggle.
The world makes sense. Characters make sense. Moustache twirling evil exists but actually make sense given the powers available. The bureaucracy makes sense. The world makes sense. It is all extremely sociologically cohesive, both the good and the bad, and richer for it.
This is a story of the meek and cowardly seeking and coming to terms with the consequences of power in a powerful world..... eventually. It's a story about breaking a character to remold them over and over again until they finally can stand up and not be broken. A story of human nature, both its fragility and its resilience.
Even if you haven't read the original, give it a shot.
    It's a good story.

The book and now it's rewrite is good. I just refuse to continue to continue with it, at least for a couple of months. I personally haven't read the previous edit, but the big bad gets away after 20 chapters of basically nothing happening and everyone bouncing off each other. I don't know what the author was attempting to do. I do understand a really strong person could have torn the weeds at the stem and didn't do it...for reasons not disclosed. Which is something that this author and others do. We are presented with these caricatures of invincible, all power,  all knowing figures. Then authors intentionally(artificially) limit their movement so there will be more drama/more conflict. I would prefer killing the big bad and building another rather than them getting away...because someone 'couldn't '

I doubt the novel will be too heavily progression-focused seeing how the title has "lament" in it and all the mental and sociatal issues mc will probably have to deal with to carve our her niche...
but, with her mutations, the System-equivalent, her picked skills and of what I recall of the prior draft of this story, I definitely look forward to what she'll become.
While it looks better developed than the original version, if I had a complaint it's how short all chapters are. On paper I want my stories to have frequent chapters, but in practice, if fairly little happens in each one, then over that I'd prefer less frequent but bulkier chapters.
