- DatateqRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed reading this. It was a nice mashup of various elements of other things but still a fresh story. I enjoyed both MCs as they had a good dynamic and the world-building was very interesting I would definitely read more if you got around to it, but it stands solid as it is
Thank you for sharing your time and creativity. - DrundlsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style - so far the style is light and humorous, the plot moves quickly and effortlessly, the worldbuilding is fleshed out and reminiscent of various media, but with enough uniqueness that it somewhat stands out in my mind. The Eidolons and other things could be explained more, but the mystery is also good, so we'll get there eventually. ---- PS: there's isn't a lot of cyberpunk in this yet.... (chapter 15)
Grammar Score - I'm no good at Grammar myself so... ChatGPT gave you a 4/5 for chapter 1 - because its dumb, and doesn't appreciate happiness.
Story Score - like I said the pacing is fast, and the story is light so far, which is what I enjoy. There's some potential conflict to resolve, like the horrible orphanage, and the kitten's dark past, and paying rent and things. Also larger things like eidolons. I like the coming of age, finding her place, and also successfully dealing with street gangs in unconventional ways, and how there's evil magic in the background. There's a lot of ways this could go, but the whole finding their place thing, plays up the comedy, and makes it fun. Of course I'm looking forward to when they both get more established, to see where the story will go.
Character Score - Sharp needs a little love. Her backstory especially, but since I'm wondering about it, then maybe something will come of that. The humor is where its at, makes it so I don't need to know that much, because she's kind of a dummy, but with big energy, which is great in a crapsack world cause trouble is around the corner and she'll have to stumble her way through, like a fool :) -- Princess Snufflebutt (I can't remember her name) is hampered by her too cute circumstances, and I would like her to pull a demon summoning, or other BFG out of her cute little snufflebutt, eventually. On the other hand that's where the story's at, her finding her place despite her snufflebutt, which is so warm and fuzzy :) -- overall characters are intriguing and I'm looking forward to learning more - ElaikasesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story I really enjoyed. I was hoping for more on the protagonist class and its meaning but one really could not ask for more in the execution.
So it is complete and may be over, but it is worth a read. So very worth a read. - TeramireRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is nice one. From rat to hero , but MC is supporting Protagonist. Easy to read, not stupid. Lively world. It is cyberpunk with d&d magic + Warhammer supernatural beings. Story is not super focused on anything. Like typic hero road with system but MC have to be teacher for protagonist next to levelling herself. MC is not too special, they are similar in that world.
- Lost RainRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What it says in the tin. I mean, come on, it’s another Raven’s Dagger book? You know it’s good. Try it.
Oh, here’s an actual review I guess… dang word count restrictions.
STYLE
It definitely feels a lot like other books from Raven’s Dagger. As per usual, the dialogue in particular flows extremely well and feels real.
STORY
Why haven’t you- uh, I mean, it’s good. Nice, solid foundation and just enough information to hook you in. A bit of a new take on reincarnation/rebirth, but one that feels a lot better then ‘died by nameless god’s accident, nameless god reincarnate you as apology’. The bars pretty low in that example, but you get my point?
GRAMMAR
Oh, you’re still here? Well, uh… nothing to say about Grammar, which is a good thing.
CHARACTER
This right here is a main selling point, and part of the reason I started reading Raven’s Dagger’s books in the first place. At the brief glance I’ve had, I can already say the characters already look like an easy dub. Once again. When’s the masterclass for writing characters coming?
Anyway… The MC seems a bit typical assassin-y cold blooded type, but (chapter 1 spoiler)
Being turned into a cat puts a nice spin on it.
Oh, and the actual protagonist of the story looks like she’ll have a nice character arc with her trusty feline friend. - RznRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The greatest assassin returns as a cat and now has to keep an eye on her fledgling merc: Sharp. Training and fun asides, it moves fairly slow with a fair amount of side characters. Not a pure numbers-go-up story, we get some extensive descriptions of abilities, and some thought behind them and some fun job offers that have some totally not criminal connotation to them! In reality we see Sharp improve and become more capable and the growth is measured - not turning her into some crazy assassin or terminator OP character who can communicate with an assassin-cat mascot.
The growth is nice and then by the time the story concludes there is no pressing plot matter, but whether this is all or just vol 1, both of our MCs have grown in fun ways. The down time aspects of shopping and having Sharp being a 'pet' to feed the cats was fun as well. The setting felt a bit odd, and I mentally had some issues with this version of futuristic 'not Boston' still feeling like circa 2010s Boston. This is like New New York, but given the missions and such whether Boston-2 or Boston, does it matter? The setting did not scream cyberpunk or dystopian, and Sharp just didn't feel right in the world and it was more than just being mal-adjusted. The blend in genres with some comedy though made this its own thing and it was fun! - ThunderTwonkRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This was a fun story for sure. Any complaints are pretty minor and boil down to just wanting more of the story for myself or just wanting more numbers to go up or more skills to be gained because I found said skills quirky, fun and generally overpowered in some way which tickles the right bits of my brain.
Thank you for the story and I do hope that it gets a continuation so that Princess Kitty von fluffybottom and Sharp find more shenanigans to get into for our entertainment ^_^ - fearnburnerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Great characters and a lot of fun. This story had a lot of good room for plot and character building. My only complaint is that I’m not really feeling a cyberpunk vibe so far. It has been hinted at but not expanded on. That said, elements mentioned can be expanded as the world and characters develop.
- FlowerPower :-)Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Nice little story.
Decent char-development and slow bulid up of stats. Not to many side-characters and the ones that are have nice personality.
I really liked the clumsiness of Spark. Great :-)
It has a lot of potential to continue on. The end did not feel like a good end of a story, kind of cut of to soon.
So pleeeease, write a follow-up.
:-) - marinemashupRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Read the description. Look at the length. If you like the description, you’ll like the book. What more can I say?
Be aware that the author kind of just stopped and that most plot points and questions will not be resolved. If you, like me, enjoy completed narratives, then it will leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
The relationship between Caroline and her mentee is cute, and there is refreshingly little contrived drama or “out of nowhere” moments.
Would I call it a found family? Yes, but it’s a rather minor aspect in the scheme of things.
Overall, it’s a cute lighthearted cyberpunk with litRPG elements that ends too soon.
