Previous Installments in the Series:
Before being conscripted to fight in the Total War, Private Hector Park had a shattered family, a collection of old videogames, and a promising career as a motorcycle stuntman. Now, he is dying from a virus threatening humankind with extinction. He has three days to live. When Hector’s brother contacts him after years of hostile silence, Hector goes to try and make peace. But his brother has an offer even more unbelievable than reconciliation: the chance to cheat death by joining him in Archemi, a full-immersion fantasy VR-RPG videogame.Determined to forge a life worth living, Hector undergoes the experimental upload process and chooses the difficult path of the Dragon Knight. To achieve his dream, he must prove himself worthy of imprinting a dragon, a being with whom he will share a telepathic bond more intimate than any human relationship. But at what cost?
Two weeks ago, Hector Park cheated death by uploading his mind to the ultra-immersive fantasy RPG game, Archemi. After exposing the rotten heart of an order of dragon knights, he’s now on the run with a young queen dragon who could one day become the most powerful mount in the game.
To get strong enough to face their enemies, they need a quest – a big one. Fortunately, trouble has a way of finding Hector, and it does – in the form of a series of brutally murdered priests, a king in desperate need of a hero, and a beautiful, fiery berserker. The risk? Huge. The payoff? More gold than a dragon’s hoard.
There's only one problem - Archemi is haunted by the ghost of a mad developer bent on making the game his personal playground. And now that the world outside has vanished in a storm of nuclear fire, there's no one left to stop him. Or at least, that’s whathethinks. Because Hector isn't the kind of man to take this shit lying down, and neither is his dragon.

- vox_dicitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just.... wow. This is worth the read, hands down. Too bad it'll be pulled off RRL when it's up on Amazon - even then, it's worth a buy.
Style: This gives even the best of RRL a run for it's money.
Grammar: I have nothing to complain about here. There's an occasional typo or two but nothing that's very noticable or breaks immersion.
Story: I've been enjoying everything so far. The backstory isn't some standard VR trope, and everything has been solid up to ch. 40.
Character: Wow. I've never been surprised by characters like this before, outside of a non-serialized novel. Characters are deep and multi-faceted, and development is generally fairly strong save for the occasional filler character that's killed off soon after.
Thanks, James. Good read; good work. I wish you luck. - magefeanorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a fantastic book. It has well written characters, a really engaging story, really nice grammar and a vrmmo world quite different to others. The world building is top notch. Not all is as it seems in this world.
It's a delight to finally read something that feels like book, compared to chapters just stringed together. I would say this is a book worth buying when it is taken down.
Sadly for me the epilogue was a disaster and killed any interest in reading book two.
Good luck onwards mr. Necropants, hopefully you'll sell well. - DealWithItRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Currently up to chapter 26, worth the read. Great MC.
- SilenceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Loving this book so far, The characters are Funny, its a great genre, the game doesnt make the players OP but instead makes things difficult. This story has Everything that this genre of book asks for!
Keep up the good work! - WhenOrangePigsFlyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Read the first two books on kindle unlimited, am on the third now.
first before getting into the review, this is my first advanced review ever. So If it's not good / informative I apologise.
also WARNING: this series can be pretty dark at times so if you're depressed or kind of faint hearted maybe not the best choice. I'm sure other reviews said the same thing.
Now:
Character: the characcters are great, they are developed have needs and wants and none are a stereotype. No one is perfect (cough kirito cough). The main character is just trying his best to do what he thinks is right, protect his ward and just make light of a really really shitty situation.
Story: the story is amazing and the plot is great too. I really love how the author handled the entrance into the virtual world. SPOILER:
Although I will say I wasn't expecting the nukes at all and kind of upsetting because I was looking forward to the vast vrmmorpg but hey what evs. Needed for the plot and ended up doing more good than harm for the story.
Only reason why I'm rating this 4/5 is because some times the plot feels a bit rushed with things being super hectic happening one after the other. It's hard to talk about anything without spoiling, but I will say that as far as I'm concerned there aren't any plot holes yet and the story seems really well planned out.
Grammer: well I read the official kindle unlimited books so the grammer was amazing, I don't know how it usually is on the site. So I'll just put 5 stars.
Style: I don't really understand what this means, but if it's about the authros style of writing than I like it. I also just really like dragons so I feel a bit bias, but I like it!
I highly recommend reading this story!!! Really great one! - lemonbladeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0a short review will get a better one up soon *4.5/5 stars awesome novel
-Great story
-Well done world building
-Nice Characters (most of the time )
-Good Grammer
better than some of the novels that you find on this site give it a try - Ellie MyraRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I read both books over 2 days - I couldn't really put them down (or pull myself away from the screen, rather). Depending how the series ends, I might put the coin down for paperback versions down the road.
This was a darker read than I'd usually go for; especially in the beginning with everyone dying left and right from HEX, and then his rocky start to the game; I nearly stopped reading then, but the promise of draaaaaaaaaaagonsssssss kept me going.
I had initially picked up the books to read on Amazon because I grew up reading Dragonriders of Pern and Heralds of Valdemar, as well as playing RPGs, so the whole 'bond a dragon' thing drew me in.
Spoiler: Spoiler
I was more than a bit disconcerted that the actual bond-a-dragon thing didn't happen until quite literally the second to last page of book one. I felt like I'd been fed a hook from the book's description only for it to be an actual teaser to book two.
That said - as an extremely voracious reader - I have gained the ability to often predict plot devices and paths in advance [Ability Unlocked: Divine Plot] simply from how often I have seen them used. Same plot, characters renamed to save the innocent. But every time I thought I knew where this was going, the path changed on me. Maybe my guesses will prove right further down the road, I'll have to wait and see.
One thing that kept me reading - despite the darkness of the story - was that many of the characters were real, at least for the 'good guys' - so far the baddies have seemed somewhat 2 dimensional, though that's somewhat par the course in game (and perhaps they have more development in the novella, which I haven't read yet). Hector, Suri, Rin, and Karalti are all wonderfully developed with real foibles, and while Hector seems to be a bit unrealistically perfect, I enjoyed reading Suri and Rin slowly unfold within the pages. So far Hector's greatest 'flaw' seems to be his belief that he's 'dumb' when all evidence points to the converse.
The other thing that - thejoker195Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5A wonderful sequel to the first book, was really suprised to stumble upon this here and i have to say the book is really up to expectations.
The Writing and grammar are both top notch as this isn't mr. Necropants first book so there are barely any mistakes, unlike most books on rrl , you don't have to struggle to try and understand what the author is trying to say ,so you can focus on what's happening in the book instead of your brain trying to auto correct every sentence you read.
Characters : both the mc and supporting cast are really good as the author is taking his time to flesh them out properly with each person having his own quirk or way of thinking which makes them quite alive and not feeling like some generic cardboard cut out , heck even cut throat has more personality than some character's I've come across in quite a few books , my only little complaint is that some of the mcs jokes are cringe worthy and makes it feel like he's trying too hard.
All said, it's an awesome story and definitely worth supporting when it gets published, so give this story a go , it's really worth the candle.
