- JackRuin33Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fun reimagining of a beloved books and TV show. That consistently hits all the right spots, if you have that itch. Our author does a phenomenal job at maintaining character voices from the original while adding a twist to the situations.
Overall, I recommend anything Game of Thrones fans. The scenes don't feel drawn out or overstaying their welcome, and there's plenty of suspense and action between the dialogue. As in GoT, there are multiple POVs that don't take away from the pacing and momentum of this fanfic. However, I can't recommend this to anyone who has not kept up with the TV show at least. Our author does a great job of providing context for the current motivations behind situations and previous grievances that our characters exhibit against other people or things in the story. I'm reading this as someone who has only watched the TV show. So I'm not sure how friendly or jarring it would be to just pick this up as is.
The style is solid. I haven't read the books, so I'm not sure if our author truly captures the original format.
It's a Game of Thrones fanfic solid story base.
I haven't really noticed any grammatical errors.
I said it earlier, the characters are on point. If this were a script for an alternative world for the series, I would believe it, and I would be happy that's what's actually important. If you remember how stubborn and obtuse some of the characters became after their ordeals, you'll appreciate the details our author went through to capture the essence of the characters.
So if you're a fan of GoT and appreciate an alternative perspective, this story is for you. - LootingPillagerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I need to preface this by apologizing to the author. I thought I had already left a review of this. I am now rectifying my mistake.
This is the game of thrones story that would have had people dropping their jaws had it been on the screen.
Instead we get to read some awesome scenes of people needing a system reboot of their brains as Jon Snow makes the Hell that is Westeros lose its liquids on the floor and whimper in hopes of seeing another sunrise.
Seriously read the story! - Zombie UnicorneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I stayped up late at night just to read another chapter and was distraught whe I finally caught up. I enjoyed it that much!
Honestly, I think the title is what prevented this story from becoming a hit and into the rising star. Considering how generic titles made some asoiaf fan-fic have 3k followers while being inferior to 'Kill the Boy' is a tragedy. If the title was Re: Jon Snow's ascension as a Dragon Lord, I'd bet $50 buck that this story would have made it into the Top 15 of rising star. I bet people who liked Game of thrones fan-fic skipped this story because the didn't realized it was one.
Anyway, Pls check it out.
Characters are stellar and practically indistinguishable from the original and have believable and consistent progression to their source material. They aren't downgraded, they still have thier own incentives and agency.
Didn't find anything game breaking on the grammer. It is fine.
Story is what I expected how Winds of winter would go if the scenario is remotely similar tk this fan-fic which is a great undertaking and required allot of research and skill.
Honestly, I would have joined the patrekn if it was $5 bucks, I just have enough authors i support without risk of bankruptcy and couldn't really care less about the other fan-fic, star was - asoiaf crossover.
In conclusion it's great, had a great time, thank you. - Raine SullivanRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0There are no critiques I can give of this story that don't apply to popular fanfictions from established writers. Thats partially because the story is not incredibly unique, and partially because its well written for a first time writer.
I've read a good amount of what's been published and jumped back and forth to reread to think about it, and I think the story has potential. Im going to keep reading and hope that the writer improves and the story improves with them.
The main charecter is the only one that feels interesting. There are a bunch of POV's of regular people whenever there is a conversation or important event that the main charecter isn't there for but is still judged important for the story, and all of them are very boring. I think the main reason is just because they are so short. ASOIAF works so well because it give respect to every charecter that has a POV. Each ASOIAF chapter on average is a about 5k-7k words, with each chapter dedicated solely to one charecter. In this story, the alternate POVs are split up into segments of full chapters which still fall short of that count.
Sometimes, charecters just aren't interesting but the story demands they have a POV. This isnt really excusable, since the author has the ability to choose which charecters to make interesting or simple.
It can be a little unintuative to write, I imagine, but stories are often elevated when charecters miss the minor events, only to learn of them later. The saying "show, don't tell" doesn't mean its always better for the readers to have a POV over every event. Having so many POVs makes us miss out on feeling and experiencing things with the main charecter. The only way to make that work is by having the side charecters feel as fleshed out and alive as the main charecter, which is a difficult thing to write and a commitment to the charecters.
For Example-
In "A Game of Thrones" we see the arrival of the kings party from the perspective of Eddard Stark, and we can feel the tension
