Description
For 200 Years, The Demons of Dreadthorn Awaited Their Dark God's Return, But Instead of Greg-Theryx, Lord of the Void, They Summoned Me! Just Greg: My Accidental Life as a Demon Lord, a Misguided Crusade, and the High Priestess Who Holds the Key to My Fate.
Oh, you’re still here? You want the long version?
For over two hundred years, the demons of Dreadthorn have been waiting patiently for their dark god to return and lead them to victory over a cruel world that reviles them. But when the day of summoning finally arrived, they didn’t summon Greg-Theryx, Lord of the Void, God of Monsters and Beasts, Aspect of Destruction, Harbinger of Dread, Bringer of Retribution, and Reaper of Shadows.
No, they summoned me: Greg. Just… Greg.
Last I checked I wasn’t a dark god, though I seem to have been reincarnated into the body of one. Thankfully, the demons don’t seem to have caught on yet, but my new Generals are expecting me to lead their legions to victory. Imagine how surprised they’re going to be when they realize I’ve never held a sword and don’t know the first thing about magic.
It won’t be easy to keep the demons convinced I’m their god, but I’ll have to play along if I hope to survive. Worse yet, even if I manage to keep the demons from killing me, the Goddess of Light and her angels will surely try.
I don’t suppose they’d be willing to talk it out, would they?
Content Warning: This fantasy adventure contains adult themes such as profanity, violence, potentially traumatizing content, andslow burn harem romance(very slow!) with occasionallyexplicit sexual content(in 🔥 marked chapters). The MC isn't an instant genius. He is just Greg, after all. He struggles with his new circumstances at the beginning of the story, makes mistakes, and takes some time to come into his own. But he will get there.

- 3DDRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story for those who enjoy a well crafted tale, excellent technical writing skills, and entertaining humour galore.
The author has skilfully trodden the fine line between enough detail to understand what is happening including the story background, and too much detail, which can be boring as bat-shit.
Our protagonist finds himself born again as a presumably powerful being - the only trouble is he doesn't know anything about his new world, the skills he should have, (and desperately needs), plus he has to dance between the disaster of being found out and learning everything he needs to know to survive.
In my opinion, the best aspect of this story is the quirky characters and the humour. At times the dialogue is hilarious or just plain weird, but never boring as the conversations are critical to the interplay of characters.
Early days yet but this story has so much potential. This is not your typical devil/monster clash against the forces of light.
The sexual tension between characters is there but does not dominate the story. The reactions between the characters is logical for the characters being portrayed which is a nice change from many stories on this site.
The author is open to suggestions and responds well to feedback. He answers readers questions and appreciates comments.
Overall this story is one of my favourites for so many reasons. Highly recommended if you like tongue-in-cheek humour with a touch of the weird! - EleshisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0OVERALL: Honestly one of the best novels I've had the pleasure of encountering on RoyalRoad so far.
STYLE: If there's one thing a lot of authors on RR struggle with, its describing how things LOOK. I mean the details, the meaty details. How a setting looks, how characters look, even what color someone's hair is. I'm happy to say that Tate King is NOT one of those authors. We're treated with nice, thick descriptions of the characters, the settings, even the various objects they interact with. It massively helps when picturing the events in the story, and I cannot stress enough how thankful I am that its present in Just Greg. Outside of the details, the prose is just rock solid. In fact I'd say its publisher-ready.
STORY: Just Greg wastes no time at all. There's no rambling, exposition-dump prologue, no sweeping explanation of the setting, and no goddess giving Greg the rull run-down on his new situation. He's dead, then he wakes up as the new demon lord-god man. From there he has to bluff and bluster his way through life so the other demons don't catch on to his deceit. What I really like is that things keep on pushing forward without any stalling or overblown drama. Its this steady pacing that really draws me in, and I'm looking forward to reading more.
GRAMMAR: No issues to speak of, so two big thumbs-up from me!
CHARACTER: I think this is where Just Greg shines. Greg himself is a believeable everyman that's been thrust into this absurd situation, but what seperates him from a lot of reincarnation isekai protagonists is that he takes it in stride and rolls with it as best he can. He's fully aware that he's in ah heap of trouble if he can't keep up the act, so he's willing to do what it takes to survive. On the flipside we have Mona, Greg's high priestess. She's in a similar boat, having summoned the wrong guy. I'm happy to say that she's a fully independent character with her own motivations and reasons for helping Greg (her reason is not-dying). The supporting cas - FakyeahRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like how realistic Greg is and yet it's also a little bit frustrating. He's not an Alfa male who's thriving as his new role as Demon king, forced to be merciless, cunning, OP etc. That's just not Greg. But he isn't a total beta male either, sure, he's a nice guy who rather doesn't want to hurt anybody and wants to run away from it all but who wouldn't when you would die the moment you get discovered as a fake? He makes mistakes, complains a bit, but does not whine in a childish or annoying fashion he knows he has no choice to keep going. And the sexy content in this story involves only him and isn't about other demons (for now at least) and that's all i'm going to say about that. But his poor acting skills and the main reason he wants to learn magic just because it would be a fun thing to do before he dies is making me cringe a bit, and yet, it's also realistic.
This story always makes me wonder what's next. - Happy AppleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far so good. The story can be kind of slow but not so slow where you are bored. The characters seemed flushed out. The world building is good. Don't got a lot to say but it's a solid story! Now for the 50 word count requirement. - RestuIbuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In a nutshell, the story revolves around the protagonist, Greg, who unexpectedly finds himself in the role of a dark god after being summoned by the demons of Dreadthorn. Despite lacking the qualities and knowledge expected of a god, Greg must pretend to be their leader to stay alive. However, he faces additional threats from the Goddess of Light and her angels. The story explores Greg's challenges in convincing the demons and surviving the conflict.
Bringing the common tropes you've seen in isekai works, this is one of the works with a solid story and solid opening anticipation, despite the slow nature of it.
Style: I just love the style. Taking the first PoV, the author's style is just on-point and seamless, but at the same time we, readers, are still indulged in the vivid description of its world. The details of the characters, their personality traits, their body gestures, the vibe of the story, and how the joke is delivered, it's just on point and easy to understand. The prose is not entirely heavy at all, and we don't even need that. We've already gotten hooked on the simplistic style since the first chapter.
Grammar: I saw no glaring mistakes. Good editing, if not part of the author's style, that's for sure.
Story: Isekai is not really my favourite trope, but we have to agree in the end is how the author delivers the story despite the saturation, if it works, it works. This one works. It's because the author is carefully making the story concise and focused. In the early chapters, the story is focused most of the time on how Greg felt that he was not the Greg-Theryx, the Demon Lord that the nation of demons expected to be and trying to feign the demeanor, and also the conversation happened between Greg and High Priestess Desdemona most of the time. Such focus brought a good effect on how the pace ran.
Character: Greg, the protagonist, is a relatable character who finds himself in an extraordinary and absurd situation. Unlike many reincarnation isekai protagon - SilverdawnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nah this is a good story. Like, there is no beating around the bush on that, this is super fun to read and I'm enthralled, and I don't usually read anything even harem-adjacent! The author pulls us into a rather crazy world and situation as the eponymous protagonist is shoved into the body of Greg-Theryx, reincarnated as a demonic god's living vessel and inheriting strange powers and an amusingly tenuous position!
The story's style is great. The author clearly knows how to write at more than an amateur level, and throughout the story balances natural, organic worldbuilding via indirect exposition and establishment of fun characters and well described, flowy scenes! The author is witty, which lends itself to the characters nicely, and the writing is smooth enough that it's able to retain my attention easily! I'd note a couple of repeated words ('incredulous' stood out to me) but I imagine that issues like that could be solved super easily, so 5/5 here.
Grammar's top notch, no complaints at all and nothing to say here. 5/5.
Story's pretty fun so far and it's littered with all kinds of thoughts and humour that make reading on and becoming invested in what's happening easy! I usually extend a bit of leeway to isekai stories for the adjustment period as the protagonist gets used to their new life, but this one did feel a bit too smooth for me. Greg very quickly realised what kind of situation he was in and from his first words spoken to anyone (other than shouting as he smacked his way through the coffin) he played the part of confident demon lord exceptionally well. He would say he felt nervous in his head, and sometimes he would say the wrong thing, but the lack of hesitation, the lack of distractedness from someone who was self-admittedly having a panic attack moments before, and the near-perfect recollection he seems to have of what was being chanted as he was summoned when he needs to be able to draw on specific information feels a bit easy and convenient. He's too - Wolfgang HuxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is my favorite story I've read on RR so far. I could end my review there honestly but I do need to fill this all out to be 1) Thorough and 2) Meet the advanced review requirements.
I'm picky. Very picky. But this piece of fiction actually has all the right ingredients to be great and I think you'll see that if you give it a chance. Let's break it down.
STYLE: It flows. The dialogue is quick and natural. The exposition is just the right length. There are no info dumps only organic moments where the MC learns about the world or the reader does through Mona's actions. This is the way Isekai ought to be done. People should take note. Don't freaking info dump me! Make your story interesting first. Like this author does.
Grammar: No mistakes. I may have seen one or two but I was honestly reading pretty fast because I was enjoying myself.
Story: Best part of all this. We have a regular guy accidentally isekai'd into the demon kings body. Obviously comedy ensues, as does potential spicyness, as does real danger. Its all there. I'm not sure if we are going to see multiple love interests or just Mona but either way I already enjoy their dynamic a lot and am shipping this. Don't let me down author! I followed you for a reason haha
In any case this is shaping up to be real exciting. Outside of the personal we also have this giant war between the demons and the angels (or along those lines at least). And I'm very curious to see if the author also injects some good action into the plot. That would take this all to a whole new level that I would also very much enjoy. I'm betting yes.
Character: Great. Mona is both a sexy and strong female lead and I love that she gets her own POV chapters. Our MC is no slouch but hes also totally new to this world so we see him struggling. We got a small flash of his past memories and I feel like we will learn more. And we already have a bunch of interesting side characters on the move. Very curious, for example, about Phaedra... the nemesis - keeganashleyliveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Alright, this one has such a unique premise! “Greg” wakes up in the body of a dark god but he’s…just Greg. And the awkwardness of him grappling with this reality really kicks the plot up a notch (as well as my appreciation for the character who is extremely relatable). Add the incredibly hot woman who’s helping him keep up the charade and---wow, you have incredible sexual tension as well as a story that’s worth diving off a cliff for. I enjoyed the main character’s perspective. There’s a real, relatable feeling that he's ridiculously human---not just a character in a book. He feels…tangible in a way that make him larger than just a character.
I enjoyed reading this very much. There were no glaring grammatical errors that hindered my reading. In fact, the story flowed incredibly well and had me pushing the “next” button over and over again. This one makes you hold your breath a little. The stakes are high, and the characters are worth following into flowing lava and---well, probably an epic battle that feels bound to happen by the end of all this. Well done! Kudos to the author. I loved the ride of it. If you like dark mixed with romance and suspense, this will definitely also be your cup of tea. Happy reading!! - DnojRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's kinda like Overlord if the NPCs weren't blindly loyal by literal programming. The cast of characters surrounding Greg have their own agendas, and not all of them are as zealous in their faith in the Dark Lord.
It's a great source if tension, wondering whether or not a character will start to suspect Greg of being a fraud.
(Very minor spoiler, but within the first two chapters, someone already finds out, so that's an interesting dynamic.)
If I had anything to gripe about, it would probably be a bit of the cowardice our MC displays. It's supposed to be understandable, and to some it might be, but not to me. But it's really a minor problem.
For all intents and purposes, this is as pretty solid fic.
The story's premise is straightforward but intriguing, the characters are memorable, the grammar is almost perfect, and the style isn't annoying.
And, the MC isn't OP at the start! Imagine that. Sure, he's strong, but he's basically a noob with a super-body. That's all. He doesn't have godlike powers. No amazing magic (yet). So that's also a great departure from the norm.
I definitely recommend.
lt really makes me wonder how I'd fare in this sort of thing. You'd see the shows and watch the MCs fumble around but get saved from discovery by dumb luck, but here it's much more believable. All the times he gets away with it, and those where he doesn't.
Go Greg! We're cheering you on! You can be the Dark Lord that you don't want to be! - AlmostSixPMRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have really enjoyed your writing style and the way you portray your characters. Pretty much read the entire thing in one night and instantly decided it was well worth the lack of sleep. I cannot wait for this story to continue and I am glad that you went atleast a chapter away from a literal cliff hanger. Well end of chute hanger. Keep up the good work xD
