Journey to Veresavir [Fantasy LitRPG]

Description
Cover by my friend Mattias (baconstrap) _ “I offer you an adventure. In a world of magic and monsters, steel and fire, ruins and long forgotten fates. If you are willing.” Veron was fed up with his corporate job in Paris. He quit and moved to the countryside, taking a step back to take a breath, to think about where his path had led him, and what he wanted now. When he decides to take a nap in one of the quiet countryside forests, he spots something strange. A hazy glowing bird of light, very interested in getting him to follow. And of course, he bites. What he finds is an offer. No demon king to slay, no rebellion to lead, nor gods looking for a pawn. An adventure, that is all. Just Veron, and the magic that he learns to wield. He is sent to Renavor and arrives in a mountainous valley, ready to explore a world on the brink of change, with relics unearthed in ancient dungeons, and beasts of blood and chaos lurking in the dark. Shelter would come first, and then he could figure out the rest. What to expect:Journey to Veresavir is an isekai fantasy and progression story with litrpg elements. The litrpg aspect is very light at the start, so no massive stat screens or tons of skills. It will increase later in the story. The pacing is neither particularly fast nor slow, though the power progression itself is slow. The main themes are magic discovery, exploration, action, slice of life, monster hunts/dungeoneering, survival, friendship, and self-discovery. The tone and stakes of the novel vary depending on what happens (what a basic thing to say). What I mean by that is that it’s hard for me to pin down an overall feel. There will be chill slice of life focused chapters, chill fights, but also high stakes scenes and sections with fear, grief, and tension at the forefront. I would say it’s balanced. I’m the author of Azarinth Healer, and if you read it or a part of it, here’s a quick thought of comparison. Veresavir is slower, more grounded, and more mature. The progression and magic isn’t as flashy but it’s still my voice, and everything I learned. I think no matter if you liked Azarinth or not, give this one a chance, I like it a lot :)! I really liked what I've read so far, and am definitely looking forward to reading more. However, the tags are somewhat misleading, and might turn off some people looking for specific tropes.
spoilers ahead.
As some others said, this story is not a LitRPG per se, but more GameLit, with few aspects of numerical progression, and no stats whatsoever. I really enjoy it, but some might find this doesn't quite scratch the litrpg itch.
More importantly, in the later parts I've read this story turns out to actually be a Time Loop or at least time loop adjacent. Again, I'm personally a fan of this genre, but some might dislike it. I think it's a shame to not put such a tag on a story, for both the people who like time-looping shenanigans as well as for the ones who dislike it.
If you don't have strong opinions on tropes and just want a good read I highly suggest this story, though it is still in the beginning phase and hasn't picked up pace yet as of writing this. Might update in the future if it does. - Alacrite UroborRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reviewed on Chapter 22I like the more introspective and un-dramatic feel of the protagonist. He may feel a bit bland at first but that feels like a voluntary choice to create a blank canvas on which to evolve. That also makes him relatable to me.The style is simple and nice, the world is different but I can taste Azarinth Healer DNA in it.I’m enjoying it very much so far, looking forward to the adventure!
- AtopicRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wow, I just read the last chapter and suddenly I think this story will attract many more readers. It shifts from a cozy fantasy to something much more serious. I don’t want to spoil anything, so if you dropped or paused your reading, it’s definitely worth coming back.
Before this last chapter, I felt the MC was a bit underpowered and the world far too harsh for him. It seemed like he would soon lose a limb and have no real chance to catch up, especially since he’s already a bit too old to start adventuring, has no overpowered abilities, and has to learn magic the hard way. Now everything makes sense, and I’m excited to see this book through to the end. - C.P.Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I haven't read a system similar to the one on this story which brings something fresh to this site. So far the characters are well written and are relatable, at least the MC.
The chapters are long and the grammar is excellent, you can tell that the author has been writing for a long time for the way he express himself. - CannedCorndogsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the characters, the world building, the action is tense and awesome. The power progression is there…I wouldn’t call it slow, but MC definitely putting in that work, which makes his strength feel real and earned. Feelings of dread I got at certain parts of the story were so cool.
- ColdforgeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a bit Slice of Life, a bit Isekai, a little cozy and a little "dealing with trauma." So far it's very well told, with a thoughtful MC and very human companions.
I can understand why some people don't like it, if they don't know how to place it in their expectations. However, if you go in to it without wanting something other than good writing and a slowly unfolding new world, you won't be disappointed. - DedronRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Initially, this story felt like a good POV of how an average man would experience a fantasy world. I really like the direction that the plot is moving in though! The world feels real, and so do the people within it. It's the smallest bit heavy on the self-help/mindfulness practices, but their mentions don't take me out of the story too much.
- DogpissRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its very well done in a myriad of ways thus far, and I was upset I couldn't patreon to read more chapters. I was trying to resist til there were more chapters out, but I couldn't hold my curiosity in anymore.
Im a big fan or asrinth healer, but I suspect (one of) the reason(s) rhaegar is doing the book this way is to leave the character more room to grow, compared to ilea spears, who was always just a badass. This dude is very human, which makes him more relatable, with the dangers more real and suspenseful.
Very excited for the future of this book. - Fenexia LuarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There is not a huge amount that can be said so early in a new novel, but so far the pacing seems to be great. It's taking a slow and steady approach with no OP MC and that seems to fit the theme set up so far.
We're seeing glimpses of a wider world and are being given ideas of a progression system that seems unique with its diversity. Looking forward to more. - John Doe 123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thank you for the first 15 chapters!I really love the relaxed/patient mood of the story! And I find it very hard to tell what is going to happen next. The paranoid parts of my brain are looking for clues of things that could go wrong and I like that not everything escalates right away.
