Description

A sci-fi humor flash piece. Wondering if there is an audience for shorter pieces like this on RR as I'm new here!

Jelloporter is a comedy oneshot.  The short story format is not currently popular on Royal Road which is a shame.  There is a long tradition of fantasy and science fiction short stories in both genres, as well as a long tradition of comic, tragic, and horror short stories in American literature, like the stories of O. Henry and Edgar Allen Poe. I hope if people keep posting them on RR, someone will start reading them too.
Jelloporter is a story of Pascal and his fellow crew stuck on an asteroid space station, they depend on supplies from Earth, which arrive via a teleporter. The core plot issue is that suddenly for unexplained reasons, all they begin to receive from the transporter is Jello.  The monotony of an all-Jello diet and how they respond is the core of the story so I will not spoil it.
I do think the author could have gone further with the Jello shipments, there are a host of horrible recipes created by fifties housewives that are abominations violating all the laws of God and Man.  I remember the Jello monstrosities my Grandmother used to create, lime jello with shredded carrots and cottage cheese, raspberry jello with cooked rice and mini-marshmallows, etc and I've seen pictures of fifties recipes with like cocktail shrimp, green olives and hotdogs?  Much more torment could have been inflicted on that crew.

This was silly in a way, but it does work. Even if you believe something won't work, why risk it? The ending was a bit of a twist and it really seemed a bit off, but it works in a creepy sort of way. I really do not understand the plot that well because I think the edges are rough and I have a hard time maintaining my suspension of disbelief.
