Description
Deep underground the capital city of Kostos exists a decaying system of labyrinthine tunnels, abandoned buildings and overflowing sewers. In this forgotten world, known as the Graveyard, a gang of abandoned children fight to expose the ruler of Kostos, the Kai, as the monster he really is. Using any tools they can, the group turns to a mysterious elixir to heighten their powers. The price? A shortened life. The serum destroys their body as soon as they reach maturity.
Javin and the Haunt follows Javin as he searches for his little brother and falls deep into this underground world. He must ask himself what is more important: a brutal, short life of power and change? Or a long one filled with memories of those you lost and never helped?

- BugyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far this story has left me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. There is much uncertainty, and the author makes sure to tell you just enough for the reader to remain curious, but attentive. They also never forget to leave off on a cliff hanger on every chapter.
I really like the main characters portrayal, and his relationship with his brother. The classic first child being the leader. From him waking up early, to always being engrossed in a book, the author really paints the scenario. The MC is crafted very well, and definitely makes you invested in him.
I thought that the author's use of dialogue and overall writing style was very clean. The structure flowed nicely and everything was clearly explained.
I wish there were more insights to the rest of his family, and the world he was in. It seems like it was quickly passed over, but had lots of elements that seemed incredibly interesting. The idea that there were no laws, but everyone obeyed was cool.
Overall, I definitely recommend reading, especially if you want to read a story that isn't the classic LitRPG. The story is fast paced and leaves you curious the whole time. I am excited to see what happens next! - David GilesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0For this story was an exercise in serendipity, I began reading it as part of a review swap, and once I got past the agreed number of words I kept right on reading.
There's a surprising earnestness to Javin and the Haunt and a number of things I'd often find irritating are instead quite endearing, the amount of background information being kept from the reader and its slow parcelling out is the biggest example, normally I'd be pulling out my hair but in JatH it's a fun exploration of the world. More on this in Story.
Grammar
As always I'll lead with grammar. It's good and the vocabulary used is broad enough to avoid repetition and keep things interesting.
Style
Javin and the Haunt is simply told, there's no epic prose or dramatic flourishes of language. This is not a complaint, instead the author has done something much much harder, they've nailed the basics and focused on building a foundation for the story.
Character
What I've seen of the character's I've liked but I'd call it the weakest part of the story, not because there's anything wrong with the characters but because, besides Javin, no character seems to linger long in the story where Javin's constant travelling forces them to leave people behind.
Story
It's a classic teen fantasy adventure, told simply and told well, with Javin having to face many difficult choices along the way. You've got a lot of the classic tropes, forest boy in a big city, the brutal dictator, etc but they're done exceedingly well.
In conclusion I'd recommend anyone who loves fantasy to read Javin and the Haunt, I certainly will be.
