Participant Writathon November 2024

Joyce Blythe-Gomez, an armed forces captain, was killed in action. Somehow, a weird/crazy goddess took a liking to her and reincarnated her as a knight... a Dragon-Slaying Hunk of a knight.

One day, she woke up in the middle of the battlefield with a new name and something new between her legs, tasked with saving the kingdom, slaying dragons, and vanquishing the Demon Lord. However, she's fixed on enjoying her new life the way she wanted… whatever the weird goddess said—who cares about that, right?

The story was written by Lucian T. Einar andC.L. Dionev

    Overview
A gender bender where a strong woman reincarnates into a man’s body? I’m here for it! Throw in a system and a snarky goddess and this has the makings for an amazing story. Can’t wait to see where this goes!
    Character
At the moment there is Captain Joyce Blythe-Gomez and the goddess. Joyce gets reincarnated into the body of the fallen knight Sigurd. The army that Sigurd is part of is in the middle of a battle, so Joyce puts her experience as a soldier to use and starts fighting back.
The goddess, on the other hand, seems about as useful as Aqua. Major Konosuba vibes there.
    Grammar
As always, the grammar and word choices are excellent! Lucian T. Einar and C.L. Dionev painted a vibrant and detailed world that comes alive as I read through the adventure.
    Story
A soldier reincarnates to another world and is thrown into a war right off the bat. I love the way that Joyce prioritizes dealing with the
    Style
I love concepts that aren’t meta or often done and a woman reincarnating into a man’s body is definitely a rarely tackled story. Weaving genderbender with isekai, the promise of dungeons, a LitRPG system, and magic gives this story a mix of amazing things that are blended together very well!

Well, that's definitely an unusual genderbender isekai if I ever saw one! Good f2m genderbender stories are much less common than good m2f genderbender stories and this one certainly delivers. The competent female officer and elite soldier Captain Joyce Blythe-Gomez gets isekaied by a weird goddess into a bulky piece of himbo man-meat named Sigurd and just keeps on soldiering through – only this time (at least temporary) completely over powered.
The main character formerly known as Captain Joyce Blythe-Gomez (or Sigurd now) is confrontational, pragmatic and quickly sees the upsides of her new body – it's just better suited to slaughtering, I like reading about her. The Goddess is a free radical, manipulative, unpredictable and often enough blatantly making no sense. But is the Goddess the real antagonist? I don't know.
The vibe of the story reminds me of the light novel Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute from Daisuke Aizawa and especially the Goddess reminds me a bit of Akua from Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o by Natsume Akatsuki, a good mix of humor, satirical elements and good weighty fighting and action scenes.
I know genderbender isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you're open to that, Isekai Hunk definitely has a fresh idea and the narrative doesn't seem like it's losing steam anytime soon!

This book is incredible. It's probably one of the most unique stories you'll read. It takes the established Isekai tropes and flips them on their head.
Style: The style Is engaging, the way the author doesn't just describe a scene. They make use of all the five senses to make it an immersive read.  It's just such an easy read I have no choice but to give it a 5/5
Story: The story has a captivating opening, from the very first sentence the author already tells you to pay attention. They then proceeded to hold your attention for the duration of the first chapter perfectly.  It's probably one of the most unique first chapters you'll read on this sight, I was honestly blown away when I read it.
Going beyond the first chapter, the introduction of the goddess was honestly fantastic. The idea of the MC being Isekai'd by a God isn't a new thing, but I've never read a story where the Goddess is the sole reason for everything. It adds so much mystery and intrigue. The way the story handles transmigration is honestly brilliant. When I read what happened to Joyce I burst out laughing.  It's honestly peak.
The author avoids info dumping the new world on the reader, which Is always nice to see. For story I'll give it. 5/5 easily.
Grammar: The story has no grammatical errors that I have noticed. The author does an incredible job of making everything flow well without breaking your concentration with a typo. Commas are also used when needed and not overused like you will see in many other stories on this site. I have nothing but praise for the grammar which is why I will give it a 5/5.
Characters: Well for starters, the characters feel like real people. So often In stories you'll find characters speaking like robots or bad actors. This story isn't one of those. The characters have a distinct personality and they all have their unique voices. You can take out a character's name and you'll still recognize their voive. For me that's the mark of a fantastic character.

    Title: A Crazy Goddess's Whims
    Overall:
This is a unique and entertaining take on the Isekai genre, blending elements of genderbender, litRPG, satire, and fantasy. While it has some pacing issues and relies heavily on convenient plot devices, it shows promise in its offbeat humor and worldbuilding.
    Style:
The writing style is engaging and colloquial, with a focus on snappy dialogue that often subverts expectations. The author plays with language effectively, using metaphors to convey Joyce's incredulity at her situation. However, there are moments where the tone veers wildly between dark humor and slapstick comedy without much transition, and I love it.
    Story:
The premise of a strong female soldier reincarnating as a male knight in another world due to the whims of a mischievous goddess is intriguing. While the setup could benefit from more context about this realm and its rules.

This is the first isekai story I've ever read and God! It was so damn funny.
I loved that crazy goddess and those laughably crazy moments of Joyce's breakdown and frustration.
This story is engaging, action-packed, and full of energy. The writing is simply visceral with high speed action scenes. The momentum never lags, making Joyce’s rampage feel fluid and unstoppable. Joyce's transformation from an ordinary person to a supernaturally overpowered warrior is compelling.
Grammar is strong, it never came in the wah of my reading.
Overall, a solid read I highly recommend.

Overall: The novel is really good to read while not seeking something that it will demand too much from you. The chapters are short. There are funny scenes, and the concept, albeit cliche, is well-worked. And, it is the first gender-bender story I've read, so I don't have previous experience to compare, but so far, so good. One thing I must say is this story in question isn't setting herself to be the classical style I took from it; that's more for the fun of the Isekai genre.
Style: While the writing itself is really polished, I felt the writing style, or writing voice, lacks, well, a bit more personality. Some phrases sound a bit mechanical in my view. But also, props to both authors in structure formatting, because when it comes to paragraph-wise, it was a good read. But that's to say, for the category of story the author proposed, it's well done.
Grammar: Impeccable, nothing I could spot, really good read.
Characters: The characters, so far from where I've read, are interesting. The goddess is my favorite due to her being a 'special' character and her own personality too. The main character, the main conflict of her new identity, was done well. I mean, from a woman to a man, of course it will sound different and be different for her case. Also, she was a soldier, and soldiers must know when to act on duty and when it's time to contemplate, so I appreciate the soldier's nature, but know as a knight.
Story: What I enjoy most is the satirical nature of it. The goddess in the second chapter. The absurdities the character had to face. The cosmic horror of being toyed, I mean, it's well done. Then, we have the chaotic battlefield, and the battle against the 'Archibald' was fun to read. And I must say, chapter 10 was really, really funny.
If you enjoy a good satire/funny story, then read it. Also, if you're attempting or at least are curious about the gender-bender genre, then give it a try. :)
~ Keep up the good work :)

    Overall:
This is a hilarious send-up of the LitRPG and Isekai genres. Coming from someone who finds these tropes overdone, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this parody. Isekai Hung skewers every cliché—video game-style interfaces, overpowered protagonists, cartoonishly evil villains, and over-the-top anime battles—while still being a fun read.
I also understand this is a joint project. Co-authoring always brings unique challenges and results, and I’d love to know more about how that dynamic plays out here.
    Style:
The writing is clean, clear, and effective, though occasionally heavy on adjectives. As a self-aware comedy, the tone fits the story perfectly.
    Grammar:
Technically solid. Nothing stood out as distracting or immersion-breaking.
    Story:
The plot is mostly a joke—which is the whole point—so moments that might otherwise be epic instead lean into ridiculousness. The pacing moves quickly, but that suits the genre.
    Characters:
Joyce has a solid head on her shoulders, but her “reincarnated” self is a bit of a brute. Sometimes, the merger of mind and body feels symbiotic; other times, it seems like the HUNK is calling the shots. That dynamic keeps things interesting.
The goddess is so out of place genre-wise that she almost feels like a trickster figure rather than a benevolent deity. Her modern speech adds to that impression, and I’m all for it.
    Conclusion:
A sharp, funny deconstruction of LitRPG and Isekai tropes. Definitely worth a read if you enjoy the genres—or if you’re tired of them and want to see them roasted.

There's something refreshingly honest about a story that wears its tropes on its sleeve. [ISEKAI HUNK] doesn't just acknowledge the absurdity of isekai conventions - it gleefully dives headfirst into them, creating a reading experience that's equal parts satire and genuine progression fantasy.
The premise alone tells you what you're in for; our protagonist gets reincarnated by a goddess who's clearly been reading too many light novels herself. The result? A "hunk" protagonist who's basically what you'd get if you threw every male power fantasy stereotype into a blender and hit "puree." But here's the thing - it works, precisely because it knows exactly what it is.
The litRPG elements are solid, with a system that manages to both parody and effectively implement progression mechanics. The stats and skills aren't just there for show; they're woven into both the comedy and the actual plot development. When our protagonist gains the inevitable "Dragon Slayer" skill, it comes with a hefty dose of genre-savvy commentary that had me genuinely laughing.
The writing strikes a delicate balance between poking fun at isekai tropes and delivering a legitimately engaging story. The goddess who reincarnates our hero is a standout character - her "CRAZY" designation in the title isn't just for show. She's what you'd get if you combined a fangirl, a dungeon master, and an energy drink into one divine package.
Where the story really shines is in its self-awareness. Every time you think it's about to fall into a genre pitfall, it either lampshades the trope or subverts it in an entertaining way. The dragon-slaying sequences, rather than being straight power fantasy fodder, often end up as comedy setpieces that still somehow manage to be genuinely exciting.
That said, the story isn't perfect. Sometimes the satire can be a bit on-the-nose, and occasionally the author seems torn between committing to pure parody and writing a straight progression fantasy. Some readers might find the cons

The story has a strong opening, a fun take on the goddess-summoned isekai trope, and a protagonist with a unique background that gives her an edge over standard “dropped into another world” characters. However, the execution is inconsistent—some parts shine with personality, while others feel generic or overwritten. If the pacing and exposition were tightened up, this could be a solid power fantasy with a darkly comedic edge.
The first section, where Captain Joyce Blythe-Gomez leads her squad on a mission, is fantastic. It reads like a gritty military thriller, and Joyce’s leadership feels authentic. The action is fast-paced, and you get a sense of who she is right away—competent, no-nonsense, and respected by her men. Her death scene is solid, and there’s a real sense of loss when her team mourns her.
The transition from serious military drama to absurd afterlife conversation is jarring, but intentionally so. The naked, laid-back, slightly unhinged goddess is a highlight. She toys with Joyce, doesn’t take her death seriously, and outright admits that she rigged the situation just to get her into this world.
The “pebble trick” (where the goddess causes an enemy soldier to trip and detonate the explosives) is a great moment of dark comedy.
Isekai stories with gender-swapped protagonists aren’t new, but Joyce’s reaction feels genuine. Instead of immediately rolling with it, she freaks out, questions her memories, and struggles with what it means to be inside another person’s body.
There are sections that are over-explained or too wordy, which slows down the pacing.
While the goddess is fun, her introduction drags on longer than it needs to. There’s a lot of exposition, banter, and jokes, which work in moderation, but some parts feel too indulgent.
    Final Verdict: Is It Good?
Yes! I love this idea, but it needs tightening. The story is fun, fast-paced, and packed with personality, but the exposition and dialogue could be trimmed down to keep the pacing sharp.
    It’s a sol

I have read the first few chapters, and must say it has no redeeming qualities to speak of to continue.  Don't like the characters, the setting is non existent, and it is a wish fulfillment journey with no value with more thought into the foreword than the story.
Also, why would someone even post a chapter that is barely more than 200 words, that barely contributes to the story.
    Hard pass.
