- reinydayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0great style and grammar. unique psycho character. definitely worth a read
- SobekRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When on royal road you have to weed through a lot of crap to find that shiney golden piece. This happens to be that golden piece.
The characters are superbly written. The synergy between most of the characters (Especially Cyne and Serenity) is extremly well done. And even if the author doesn't realize it some of the brutal scenes in this novel very much define Cynes character. You actually feel some emotion with this one.
(spoilers)
For example the scene where Cyne acidentally kills a little girl and camly contemplates the best way to hide her body. OMG so brutal yet so realistic. It is just so amazing how the author uses the little things like this scene to further develop Cyne's phsycopathic tendencies.
Even if this story is never completed I have succesfully added it into my list of good web novels. - danlinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you are wondering whether to read this, then I'll just let you know that you should, although if you don't like gore then this isn't for you. Even though it hasn't uploaded in a few years I still recommend this since it is entirely unique. I still think of the characters from time to time because it was just that good.
This was one of the best stories on RR that I ever read. It was one of the first that got me onto this site and I am sad to see it dropped. One day I hope the author comes back to this and updates it. - DivineCatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the story!!! It is one of the few I can read more than once and not get bored!
never drop this!
...I had forgotten about this story but the author posted another chapter! Yay!
Back after a few months T^T... where were you author-san? - IsignisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I pledge my alliance to sol in exchange of more chapters!
psycho mc is psycho… love him, a loveable sadistic mc is a rare thing to find.
story seems to be heading at a good pace and direction, detailed characters.
love the twist on the hero summoning (not the mc by the way)
goory detailed scenes. why? for the glory of sol of course!
if you don’t mind gore and kinda blind faith (just for the killing) then I really recomend this story - NeydomusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If youre tired with all the hero-hero goody-goody mcs out there, then you should definitely read this.
The MC is a little(okay maybe a lot more than little) psycho, and as long you're a sadist who enjoys watching others getting tortured, then this is for you! - Shadow ReaverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is really damn good, it is a gem amongst the fictions of this site. If you love an Anti-Hero MC this story is definitely for you. It's extremely entertaining, and the personality of the protagonist is what really makes this fiction shine. Though this story is not for the faint of heart, it's full of evisceration, incineration, dismemberment, and a ton of tortue. To those who will read the story I'll just say, have fun!
- DustyacerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So lets start
Story: There really isn't one too much, its pretty much about the MC's adventures and how he enjoys his kills. There are sub arcs and such, but lacking an overall direction for the story. Its mainly about the MC and his thoughts, although its actually really enjoyable to read
Characters: Love the MC, his evilness is very nice. Love his opinion on his religion. Other characters aren't really that evident with their personalities. The spirit that he later requires is kinda interesting, he learn a bit about her personality from her actions regards with the MC. The latest assassin girl might be interesting, but seems just kinda like a typical brainwashed clingy girl. Other characters aren't really important. The Heros are kind of a nice addition, especially with their generic personalities.
Style: Love how the story is just 99% MC's POV when thinking about others and such. He hear his lovely thoughts on everything, his emotions (joy, itching to kill, digust, etc.). Love the humour of misinterpretations of other people's thoughts.
Grammer: Not much noticed. good. - KarthoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story brings a whole new light (or absence of one) onto the subject of an Inquisition. The main character has a well established personality, with some interesting quirks on the side. Although the well worn trope of "Hero Summoning" is once more used, the author steps up the the plate with a whole new spin on the idea. The grammar of the story is impeccable, so fluid that it makes me cry, as majestic as the cries of heretics burning alive. I would personally recommend this story to those with a taste for a darker story, but feel that anyone could understand the masterpiece that is Inspector of God. In fact, I feel that this story ranks among Andur's (Beyond,Transcendence, ext) and the well known Don't Fear the Reaper. With its quick pace, constant and reliable updates, and great world-building, this story will go far.
- GaskRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Several fictions here have attempted to portray an evil character but they often tend to come off as just nonsensical or apologetic as their authors attempt to rationalize their characters out of the moral quandaries that they have written them into. This isn’t the case in “Inspector of God”, here you will find a protagonist faithfully portrayed as an unrepentant, sadistic psychopath with a helping of lunacy tossed in for good measure. Here you will find gratuitous torture, mental abuse, the killing of children, manipulation, abuse of power, betrayal and the endless ramblings of the protagonist, Cyne, who provides the entirety of the novel’s content as its sole point of view character.
Many potential readers may ask why this wouldn’t just be a disturbing waste of their time and I must agree that it often is. But the discomfort and Cyne’s near inexhaustible internal ramblings aside it is crafted in such a way as to be entertaining and even amusing at times. The author has invested a fair amount of effort into maintaining the consistency of the protagonist’s persona and has managed to place him in an interesting scenario. He has tipped the boring trope of hero summoning onto its side and subverted its tone and theme to his own purposes in an unusual and novel way.
That praise aside this story does have some problems with its initial characterization, pacing and a distinct lack of secondary PoV’s which would have provided a welcome break from the protagonist’s mind occasionally had they existed. Cyne’s backstory is a hastily whipped together affair, there to provide a quick and somewhat unconvincing explanation for why this character is the way he is. Some further exposition and tightening up is required in order to transform it into the solid foundation that it needs to be. When the protagonist’s world view is laid bare and set in stone at the age of 9, in the way it was, I nearly stopped reading altogether. Similarly when he acquired his first power up and l
