Description
Insignia follows Red, one of the few insignia users, in his journey within the fantasy world of Inariel, and the magical guilds within it. The world of Inariel is a world full of magic, and dangerous monsters. Red, accompanied by his allies, Luna, Amelia, Hironi, Elias, and Sole, will take on the challenges of this world, from monsters to a deadly band of killers that go by the name, The Tenyi. The inhabitants of this world can possess magical abilities known as arcanas, which give them abilities unique to them. Some arcanas are weak but others are strong enough to defeat an army. The ones with stronger arcanas advance and join one of the great mage guilds, who serves the purpose of protecting those that can't protect themselves. Red belongs to the Mage guild Elune, one of the legendary three guilds.

- Coolguy 7-7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I believe that this fiction is a great classic shounen style work. As of writing this review, the full extent of the power system hasn't been revealed yet. We can assume that with a broad system as such, there is a ton of room for power to grow.
The style of this piece is akin to a play. A character's name will appear followed by a colon. This marks their dialogue. Any dialogue that takes place is within a character's mind is italicized. There are breaks between dialogue that allow that set a scene or lay something out. The story flows similarly to one of a tabletop RPG. In the author's bio, they state that they are an avid DND player so this style likely harkens to that. This style allows readers to feel more involved in the story. It also makes it easier to read for those readers out there who hate paragraphs of text.
Being in the fashion of a play, the grammar is acceptable in relation to the style. I'd say that nothing makes the writing not understandable. In fact, the type of writing allows the story to be understood much easier. As of writing this review, no super complex or convoluted fight scene has happened. The only fear I have is that during fights with not too much dialogue the intermission paragraphs between character dialogue will be dauntingly big. I think this can be fixed by simply allowing there to be multiple paragraphs between character dialogues and not only one. Again no complex fights have appeared yet so this is mainly a future worry that the author might've already fixed.
The characters of the story seem to have a nice flowing dialogue. The author understands the basic dynamics of a friend group and thus allows character dialogue to bounce off each other. We've only really seen the characters of the main cast and no villains, so I can't accurately evaluate the villains of the series yet. However, as an avid DND player and thus Dungeon Master, I assume the author has the ability to write villains well.
Overall the general simplicity of the co - Naruto98Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Insignia so far has been an overall pleasure to read. From the intresting cast to the style of writing. So heres my critique of it so far.
Insignia style is odd to say the least, but is welcoming. To describe it, its written almost like a play or script. You have the name of the person speaking, followed by what they say. And every once in a while there is a paragraph that describes scenery, facial explression, or genuine actions(Such as if a character punches someone, or strikes a pose). Though there are drawbacks, as characters we dont know the name of come across as ???. This doesnt seem bad at first but in areas with large groups, there labled ??? 1 and ??? 2 which gets a bit confusing. another example of this is Bandit 1, Bandit 2, Red Head(Gets mixed up with Red at a glance). So there is room for improvement but overall is pretty good and unique.
For the story, we havent seen much at the time of this review, but from bits and pieces we get, from both the story and synopsis, it seems generic at first. But after reading with the authors style, it spices up the magic fantasy world fighting a group of killers troupe. I also genuinley think this is a good example of that very trope. Overall I dont think I know about the story well enough to give it five stars, but we will see.
The grammar in Insignia is good but there is room for improvement. With the style of the book grammar is important but seemingly not as important as a full novel. There are general grammatical errors, most prevelant are words that should have 's but dont, lower case i's and missing punctuation at the end of a paragraph. It seems to me, the author prewrites his stories in either google docs or Royal Road itself. But despite that, as previously stated, with this authors style of writing, the above critiques are not nearly as prevalent or throwing off as a normal novel. But, do to there existance, I cannot give it five stars
Lastly, characters. This is something I feel this series excels at. In - RobinHoodRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ive read all the chapters and now i feel im able to give a good review.
The style the author chose is definitley intresting. But i feel its really good, as its written almost like a play or script. It has little paragraphs to describe scenery and the actions but dialouge is in script format.
For grammar its pretty good. It has an occasional grammatical error but ultimately its good. In the beggining there are more errors, but after reviews pointed out mistakes the author learned from them and corrected it. Props to the author for that.
Now for the part alot of people will look at. The story is incredible, the author seemingly fleshed this story out. It goes pretty quick but they are still fleshed out and combat is amazing.
Another thing the author excels at is making characters. The characters are made well and are fairly unique. The dialouge between characters flows so well which is something not many authors are good at. Aswell as that there powers and abilities are so good. Also theres a diverse cast of characters within the main guild and we see a bunch but I cant wait to see more.
Another note world building seems really good aswell.
Ultimately the story is really good and its only just begininng. - sanchopeepoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like it a lot so far, it may seem cliche but I think the powers and abilities will be original and interesting. It has a lot of potential and with consistency and interesting arcs, I think it could be a very good series. I am also excited to see how the setting of the story will play into this series. I am very excited about how the story pans out and will keep reading every day.
- Lasuke D. LuchihaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Insignia is pretty fun to read and I've been liking it so far. The characters are pretty cool(My favorite is Sole). The only problem I have is it seems the battles are always "forced" to be finished in one chapter, this isn't a necessarilly a bad thing but I think the battles shouldn't try to be rushed. I still do enjoy the battles a lot.
- HedgyRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I will preface this by saying that I am most likely not in the target audience for this. With that being said, let's get the negatives out of the way first. I do not, personally, like how dialogue is written. The need for each character to have their name before their speech just doesn't seem right to me. Along with this, the grammar isn't perfect. By no means does it have to be, but I'd expect there to be at least periods where there should be, and proper capitalization of "I"s and other proper nouns. As for the characters, I do like them. They're all very unique, and the dynamics between their relationships with each other are great. However, I do feel that most of them act in a same-ish way, with lots of them repeating the word "yup". Mind you, this certainly could be a very specific critique specific to me. Next, we come to the story, which, so far, is interesting. This world is obviously unique, and I am interested in seeing it develop. It feels as if the environments the characters are in are a bit underdeveloped, I only know the very general details of what a scene looks like.
In the end, Insignia is a solid story with a potentially very interesting storyline, with a few issues here and there, but nothing egregiously bad.
