- twistedvendettaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0"Immortal Drunkard" captivates from the start, blending simplicity with intrigue in a cultivation narrative that keeps readers hooked. The main character's humor adds a delightful touch, and the story unfolds with a smooth progression that promises an exciting journey ahead. While the plot embraces some clichés inherent in cultivation tales, the author brings a fresh perspective, injecting fun and interest into familiar elements.
As a fan of cultivation stories and overpowered protagonists, I'm thoroughly enjoying the direction the story is taking. The cliche aspects are acknowledged but are skillfully woven into an entertaining tapestry. The hardcore and realistic world, with its stark portrayal of power dynamics, adds depth to the narrative. Power progression is satisfying, and the cultivation method employed by the MC is notably cool.
The characters, including the main and supporting cast, feel vibrant and alive. The exploration of existence's laws, influencing energy, probabilities, and time and space, provides a unique perspective on our reality. The logical decision-making of the protagonist adds credibility to the story. Kai promises a compelling cultivation journey, this story is a delightful ten jugs of wine out of ten. - AftermathRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have read a few cultivation stories before this one, and I must say this is one of the better ones. The story has a few "cliche" scenes but that is just what happens when you read cultivation stories. However the author does a good job at distinguishing the "cliche" scenes from the typical layout and makes their own version.
The story does a great job at using time skips here and there for repetitive and long stretches of cultivation, which other cultivation stories tend to draw out, so the story has a good pace with a decent amount of action and suspense.
Its a good read so far and I recommend it! - ITrezvyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read up to the last chapter in the original language. A smooth, calm, non-stressful narrative draws you in and doesn’t let go from beginning to the end.
The main character and supporting characters feel alive. The laws of existence always influence everything (energy, probabilities, time and space) and you understand that watching the path followed by the main character is not only pleasant and interesting, but also allows you to look at our world from a different angle. Ten jugs of demonic wine out of ten.
The author improves in writing every volume, every chapter. - LazyMonsterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0TL/DR: If you're expecting a action-packed, plot-driven, novel, this story is not for you. This story is the very definition of "easy, simple, and straightforward". Nothing complex, nothing intense, just a simple story about a special orphan on his path to drunken immortality.
Keep this in mind as you read the rest of this review.
Another plus: It kept me interested until I caught up. It's difficult to find such a story these days.
STYLE
The style is simplistic, but not overly so. If you are familiar with translated xianxia novels, the style will be somewhat familiar. It focuses on telling the story with minimal flourishes – which is a huge plus in my opinion. There are no fanciful descriptions of irrelevant actions or scenery. Something is happening in every sentence, whether the character is thinking or acting.
STORY
The story is a typical one of an orphan on a quest to finding answers and gaining strength. If I had to pick a weak point of this novel, this would be it.
Hear me out though.
The reason for this is that the story doesn't have as much conflict as similar stories. There are no random young masters to slap and no elders ignoring their status to attack juniors. This should be a plus, but the problem is that there is nothing to replace those tropes. The story is basically Kai going around doing his own thing with minimal (negative) digressions from his plan. Usually when digressions do come up, it ends up with him gaining another
OP legacy.
This is the reason I said the story was easygoing. There is no "I want to do this but I have to do this but now I can't do this and have to do this... Oh no, the city has been destroyed and I now have to... " at all. It's just MC furthering his goals and seeking the peak of martial arts.
I feel that this might have been intended, as the MC - Kai - is someone with that easygoing and carefree nature.
GRAMMAR
There's nothing much that I noticed about the grammar. Maybe a few typos every now and then, but nothing that detra - NarutoMontgomeryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0OVERALL SCORE: At first, everything was quite classical and predictable. But over time, the story takes unexpected turns and becomes more interesting. The second volume feels somewhat different, perhaps of higher quality. The author mentioned in the comments that he is evolving as a writer, and you can sense the progress gradually. I'm eagerly looking forward to further plot development to learn more about the world's lore.
STYLE SCORE: Everything is written simply without excessive verbosity and endless epithets. Some might not like the simplicity, but personally, I find it just right. Although, sometimes the "He-he" can be irritating.
GRAMMAR SCORE: I don't know what to say. The grammar is good, but there might have been a few typos over 150 chapters. (I saw in the comments that readers pointed them out, and the author corrected them.)
STORY SCORE: I would characterize it as gradually unfolding. The world doesn't reveal itself all at once. The further the plot progresses, the more we learn. That's why I'm very curious about what they will reveal when Kai
the Shadow Sect
CHARACTER SCORE: I really liked the main character's personality, and you can gradually feel his growth. The secondary characters are surprisingly lifelike individuals with their own interests. I would say the characters pleasantly surprised me.
P.S. And yes, special thanks to the author for the daily updates! - ShadowKnight6992Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay first Grammar - it’s done well and it’s there’s no noticeable immersion breakers.
Character - the MC is done well, he has the right amount of emotion but he also has restraint
(unlike other Xianxia where the Mc lashes out at everything like a toddler)
The side characters are done WONDERFULLY, they are believable and are realistic enough where they have their own lives and aren’t constantly fawning over the MC, perfect
Story - right now it’s an interesting story not convoluted in his main goal of cultivating but the amount of side quests for answers are wonderful (I don’t know how to describe it better)
Style - the key point is this is a more unique novel where the Mc is competent and…carefree? Yea carefree so the style of the Mc is more laidback with constant quips, jokes and it’s nice to see an mc with his life in order for once
Overall - Wonderful and keep it up with the MC and especially the side characters how they have depth to them even the more out of the way or forgotten ones, but please especially with this long novel don’t burn yourself out, I’ve seen too many people burnout and the novel is forever on hiatus, so take care of yourself. - ShirrRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a page-turner...I find it both simple and intriguing. The main character is funny and the narrative has a smooth progression. I like where the story is headed and I look forward to hundreds of future chapters. I am interested in discovering the world and witness the MC's growth.
- bebe17Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I honestly don't understand why you only have four stars I extremely enjoyed this book I was confidently reading lit RPG and some cultivation novels here and there but reading this book makes me want to keep on reading just cultivation novels I thank you for your imagination and the world you created and I wish you the best in furthering this story I can't wait to read it thank you
- 2D4LIFERoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Review at 60 chapters since author asked for one.
I think its quite tempting to just say that the story is mediocre, mid, good enough etc.
but is that really fair for a story like this? The genre dictates no limits to the madness, and author kept it quite sane. Props to that but that can make people sign off on the “mid” review.
let us see. I think this story shows good potential. I think we can only see where author takes it, as this story will be a long one. That is the genre law.
At the moment at 60 chapters the mc is exactly how I want him.
The side characters are trope-tastic.
What is there to want?
I’m sure people want mc to lose something and get in some trouble and have his principles tested and tried. But there is no hurry here.
we are in the beginning of a slog, this story wont be short. Beware of trying to speed things up, its hard to slow back down without killing all the side characters lmao.
i will update the review in the future.
right now i give it 5 stars and recommend people read it and if you are unfamiliar with the genre then reminder this is a life story, and authors first try.
note for author, do not read unless you have passed the 60 chapters
I feel that if you plan to publish this one day make sure you revise the mortal chapter to make it a bit more heart wrenching. Flesh out the kin so that their deaths are a bit more oof inducing. Like make one of the girls disabled and he made her a wooden wheelchair or some shit lmao just kidding but that is some classic legal moves with mcs like this in stories like this! - BHDMRTRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't consider myself a picky reader, so you might not want to base your opinion on my review.
In my opinion, the novella is quite good. If you view it as something to read after a long day of work, then it's just what you need. Everything is quite enjoyable, from the characters to the slowly unfolding adventure story.
When you get tired of complex and intense works, reading something in the style of this novel feels like a break. I liked it and looking forward to the continuation!
