Description

Five short stories about death, the savagery of human desires, and faith.

Contrasts - A specific kind of person is acquiring a very specific service, and that's all I can tell you without spoiling it.

Nyarlathotep - When the ancient Egyptian god decided to bring Earth to its knees with a single debilitating vision he did not account for Bar, a 4-chan dwelling Incel, to stand in his way. Lovercraft meets creepy-pasta.

Judges - In the Old Testament, Judges were warlords turned governors, blessed by god with magical power so they could rule over Cna'an. Yehushafat, a judge past his prime, finds a corpse at the edge of his domain. His journey to find the killer leads him to confront his past, and the nature of his powers.

Raven and Wolf  - Two lovers fight. A human intervenes.

Gortox  - The only sentient creature in the universe, and her attempts to find a friend.

CW: readers looking for trigger warnings should probably give this anthology a pass.

A beautifully crafted collection of stories.
This writer proves capable of a surprisingly diverse and unexpected collection of stories. This is both a strength and a gripe.
On the one hand, I think almost anyone can find at least one story in Idolatry that touches their soul. On the other hand, be prepared, because just because you've got a handle on 'Contrasts' does not mean you are automatically prepared for 'Nyarlatothep'.
    Beautifully done.
Can't wait to see what else is in store.

As an entire package, this book is like wine with the richness coming from the dialogue as well as set pieces throughout each story.
The stories can be read on their own without any worry for connections. You can pick as you like.
Contrasts was straight to the point, but it gets the job done.
Nyarlathotep lives up to its premise and the detail is much appreciated especially from its self aware narrator.
Judges is my personal favorite. A large thriller within the Old Testament. You'll have to take your time digesting each paragraph and text, but overall the tone is consistent and the characters are engaged in their roles. This is one story I'd be intrigued to see in graphic novel form or accompanying illustrations.
Raven and Wolf was an equally engaging fable. I felt the friendship between the characters and each word they said came from their own souls.
Gortox Was Not Alone: a detailed story about the titular creature and her conflict about her existence/place in the world.
