Description

Samuel lived most of his life as a middling engineer in the Midwest. Once the Galactic Union(GU) arrived, life changed little, other than his wife of thirty years passing away from brain cancer. For years, he has lived as a recluse, trying to be forgotten about by others, left alone to fade away. He took a deal from the GU to let him do just that. He would man an outpost on the galaxy's far reaches, ensuring it functions without issue. He thought this was perfect, allowing him a quiet place to live the rest of his life, somewhere no one cared about what he did.

Scarletra, a young, voluptuous Varintol woman, desperately wanted companionship. However, after fleeing from her tribe, her mother's wishes, and destiny, this was impossible. She had spent years in solitude and managed a meager, with only her carvings and the icy winds for company. One day, while out hunting, she spotted movement in one of the GU outposts. The prospect of meeting someone and escaping the glacial loneliness of her home filled her with hope.

How will the curvaceous ursine alien manage to break through the walls of a stubborn old man who is determined to be left alone to die? Their path is fraught with obstacles-her family's scouts, the threat of megafauna, and a language barrier. The journey ahead is uncertain, but their encounter will change them both for the better and melt their iced hearts.

From start to finish Iced Hearts has been a fantastic read through. The main characters of Scarletra and Samual make for a wonderful couple.
One finding real love and understanding in a soul who has lost everything, and that one lost soul finding a new fire to warm his heart. The book is truly a heart warming love story of two people propping up and supporting each other through the harsh moments. Coupled with vivid writing to help stir the imagination, I have much to gush about over Iced Hearts as a story.
The writer consistently makes wonderful characters that make you want to know of them, how they tick, their past, faults and aspirations. The wonderful writer here makes wonderful waifus. And in that I have to say one bad thing about Iced hearts, there are not enough Catgirls.
I would highly recommend Iced Hearts if you are a person of culture and you as well want to be hugged by a big loving bear girl who wants nothing more than your happiness and the best for you. Still needs more catgirls.

Normally I'm not into chubby girls, but God damnit. I found Scarletra to be adorable with her actions. This story made me care about the leading lady. I love the character interaction and growth as this story progressed.
Great story, and this dick should write more stories. Chop, chop Papa Pirate.

At first I thought it was a short story christmas special (My fault). Read the first two chapters and decided to buy the digital copy for now (the story seemed like it was going to be spicy, so rather read the unedited) Really enjoying the read so far, I particularly love the back and forth view between Samuel and Scarletra (adorable name) for some reason I keep thinking Samuel of being a Kurt Russell type (I really like this male charachter) Looking forward to the awkward relationship growth between these two. My favorite is Scarletra is sweet and trying to be friendly, knocking on the doors and causing them to buckle, but his point of view is she's a scary beast that was trying to break in to his station and charging at him later. It's funny and really sweet. Good read. Can't give an honest opinion on grammar or spelling whatnot, when I get lost in a story I tend to over look that stuff (unless it's really hard to read, so i guess its all good on that).  The style is comforting, I like how the two charachters meet or are thrusted together. Both charachters are lovable in their own way, I already brought up Samuel, it's kinda rare to have a rough, gruff male charachter now adays, so he's a refreshing throwback (I like when he lands and he's doing maintenance he's living on cigars, also nice how handy and reliable he is.) Scarletra...I really like how her personalty is nothing like her outer appearance, sweet kind and gentle, she doesnt like killing creatures, but will do so out of need for food, which to me makes her more relatable. Really good job on describing her from Samuel's perspective when she makes herself at home.
Will buy the hard copy when I get paid. Thanks Mr. Graves. (Or pirateopotato)

A surprisingly deep character piece that focuses beautifully on the two main characters, their lives and how they mutually end up starting to actually live again together instead of just surviving or waiting to die respectively. Tight combat like you'd expect from Pirate and some very solid smut. If you say you like big girls and don't mean 9'+ bear women, clearly you are a liar.
    Read it!

I read this as the chapters were published.  It has been a rather lovely experience over the past few weeks.  I shall very much miss this experience, and look forward to the author’s next work.
The characters developed throughout the novella.  With both of the core characters having considerable nuance and depth.  The setting was evoked beautifully.  I frequently read for relaxation and pleasure and found myself wandering around the tundra of the setting more than once.

This story really got me back into reading again. Waiting for new chapters to come out had me more excited than anything with each chapter not disappointing me in the slightest. I give my applause all around for this story. The character development, story writing, the emotions throughout the story. Spot on, characters I can relate and understand.

This story caught my attention at chapter one and hasn’t let go yet!
I am looking forward for more and more as it’s just that enjoyable to read. The characters are well thought out and seem to bring me into the story at times. It’s just beginning and seems to only get better with each chapter as the talents of the wordsmith are illuminated.

When a jaded engineer meets a cinnamon bun of a fluffy alien on a desolate moon, something beautiful is created.
    Lovely characterization!
An exploration of grief and trauma!
    Exciting Action!
    Adorable romance!
This story has it all. I only wish it were longer.
I seriously cannot recommend Iced Hearts enough.

This story was a gripping adventure that was rather interesting. Now it has elements of both adventure romance, something saucer and the action. I would recommend everyone to read it and buy it if they can. I would also suggest looking at it as both world-building and romance.
Now then let us get into the nitty gritty.
The story is styled in a very classic adventure story. This means it is a third person pov story shown perspective of both characters. In this way, the story shows how the nature of both grow closer and how the events of the story affect them both. Sammuel nature and the methods he does this is consent and hold the attention for the reader. Scarletra being the emotional and having the fish out of water is just as interesting.
The grammar of the piece is superb. It is truly something to be looked up and something that every writter need to do. No error, no misuse and the usage of words, adverbs and other grammars actions is beyond novel level.
The plot beats were very good. The pacing is very good and is inspiriting to very author and anyone who hoped to write and read.

I‘m not sure if i should give 5 stars assuming this is social criticism on all levels or 1 star, if it isn‘t.
Which government would offer any fugitive immediate naturalisation if not as an excuse to use force against his native country? Something like asylum exists for a reason.
Who brings an armed force into the land of a not friendly neighbour if not an aggressor?
After the natives strike at an invader, he may retaliate „in defense“ in force? (After killing hundrets if not thousands of those poor guys who tried to get an apostate to trial in their own country)
An interstellar organisation needs 10 years to destroy one country that has no truly ranged weapons?  The Spanish were faster with less asymmertry. We are not talking about keeping it at peace, just about the time to the final battle. After the first victims due to missing intelligence any government that does not see its armed forces as mobs, could have used drones … the enemy is perfectly visible in infra red against a much colder environment and they cannot reach into the sky. Instead tons of weapons are brought to an in fact unarmed planet, so we can have decades of insurgations… and nobody cares at home …
Yeah especially that „nobody cares at home“ not even the stalking-horse cares…
I am missing another epilogue where scarletra is asked to return to Varintol as the last descendant of the matriarch in order to take her place and lead her people into the embrace of GU
