Description
This is the story of someone who spent a lot of time skimming by posts on the internet about a Chinese… Webnovel? Drama?
This is the story of how they died.
Most importantly, this is the story about how they were reborn into that world, and how they then had to build a new life there, armed only with the vague memory of tumblr postsand high tolerance for making a complete and utter fool of themselves.

- chemiosmoticRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Funny and charming. Great characters, and plot has strong individual arcs and the promise of long-term payoff. I really enjoy the use of the protag's total ignorance of xianxia. would recommend strongly to all MXTX fans and most others! it's one of my favourites on this site and does not have much recognition
- itsharryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really good stuff! The glimpses of the fandom for this fictional IP are absolutely spot on and the translation jokes are hilarious. I especially loved how the other characters' dialogue suddenly starts reading more naturally once Heng Xiaowen unlocks the improved translation function. Will he progress far enough to unlock in-depth footnotes?? only time will tell I guess.
I'm really enjoying getting to know the other characters as the protagonist does, and v excited to find out more about basically everyone who's been introduced so far. The other members of Heng Xiaowen's sect all feel very meaty and compelling even though we're only scratching the surface of what's going on with them at this point... Honestly this updating is always one of the highlights of my week. Thank you kind author :) - SteampocalypseRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0We’re only seven chapters in, but this is a great story so far. The main character knowing a little about the whole plot, but not any of the details, is really engaging because you’re left wondering who these characters are and how the story will come to fruition along with them. If you know a lot about the genre, it’s fun to see them struggle, and if you don’t know anything, this might serve as a useful primer.
I say “they” because the protagonist is a woman called Anna Cheng who transmigrates into a man named Heng Xiaowen. When she starts referring to herself by his name, Anna also starts using he/him pronouns. It’s an interesting premise, and a criticism I have is that it gets skipped over pretty quick. He feels really comfortable in a male body— which I’m fine with, that just seems to be his relation to gender— but what would be more interesting is if a little more time was spent on that. Without that, I feel like it’d almost be more natural for him to keep using she/her pronouns even inside this body.
Other than that, it definitely fulfills the basic criteria of being well written. There’s no grammar errors, the prose is fairly good, and the setup and world seem interesting. A lot of characters were introduced at once, making them blur together a bit, but the premise of Heng Xiaowen being from this rogue cultivator sect is great, and there are a few characters — including ones that he doesn’t recognize from the original novel— that stand out from the rest and are fun and interesting.
