Description
Temporary Duty (TDY): refers to a soldier’s assignment to a location that is not their permanent duty station. This type of duty is often looked upon favorably by soldiers due to various perks: per diem pay, lodging, meals and incidental pay.
Do you ever think about what comes next? What happens after you draw your last breath? Gerald never did. It didn’t even cross his mind on the day he died for his country. But now he’s there. Now he’s living it. Death wasn’t the end, it was only the beginning.

- HyenasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's not perfect, but it sure is fun. I've read far too many formula and derivative books here on Royal Road, and this one wasn't. The characterization was far stronger, with motivation and progression. The plot was interesting. Not always logical, but generally enjoyable. The world building, the least important part of any fantasy in my opinion, worked as well.
This is a guy story, and that helped. It was full of action and rage. That was fresh air compared to all the clone stories of clothes and comfortable magic. This story was full of raw, personal violence and pounding sex, often right after another and by the same parties.
Like so many Royal Road stories, the author didn't proof it. Sigh. WAY too many mistakes, wrong words, and grammar errors. Ordinarily, I'd mark off for that. I liked it too much so I'll give it a pass anyway. - SandsforeverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I completed this book in one night
I like the authors style this was a good read
Few if any errors
Worth a try - htimS-droWRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story begins with an interesting take on Hell and our MCs advancement through its ranks. There is plenty of great worldbuilding involved which gradualy expands as we learn more about the story's universe.
Without wanting to spoil the story our mc moves on to greater things and the supporting cast is expanded including opposing factions. This allows for more character interaction which I thought was slightly lacking for the first story arc.
This review is written as I've finished reading chapter 25 and it seems like we are really about to start getting into the meat of things. If you're a fan of the supernatural you will definitely enjoy this one so give it a chance. I doubt you will be dissapointed. - thecriticRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Good potential, steady releases. I enjoy the new original story as well as the interesting characters. As it stands now the character development has seemed a little lax. I would enjoy more interaction (not too much more) and just a little less plot. But so far it has been an interesting read
- Clear HeartRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The first three to four chapters are the most important for engaging a reader and making them interested in, ideally, your protagonist, universe, and story. A novel can get by if one of those is weak, but the others need to be stronger to account for it. It's OK if the pace is slow if interest is generated, but personally, I found Gerald to be... interchangable with any other military-man archtype for the most part, the world has an interesting premise but there's no real cohesive storyline that makes itself evident independent of Gerald's own 'I know what's going on but I didn't before' back and forth. It's an interesting way to introduce the world, but the point of a 'cold' open is to generate interest, then explain how that moment was reached with a flashback. A short-term flash back at best.
The problem with jumping around is in the past, there's no real tension for the character since they obviously got there in the cold opening. As did anyone else that appears in that opening. Jumping back and forth just breaks narrative flow. Nothing happened in the first few chapters to make me want to get invested in Gerald's past after his death, which made the flashbacks tiresome, and I think that thereby detracted a bit from the 'present' scenes because I tended to skim.
All in all, it's well written, but either I'm not within the intended audience, or the opening has a very weak story hook.
