I'm Just a Nameless Side Character in a Vampire Romance Novel
Community Rating
Description
I cried myself asleep after reading the ending to the "Rose and its Thorns" only to wake up as a nameless side character that dies before the novel even begins!
Rose and its Thorns is popular webnovel about Julia, the female lead who is sold by her evil stepmother as bride candidate of the Rose Empire. It's a powerful but notorious Empire ruled by Vampires and populated by all the non human races of the world. In the end she had her happily ever after with the crown prince of the Empire, but Eclis, the Grand Duke and the second male lead dies with a broken heart.
The novel updated nearly every week and I read it as it published for 3 years!
I don't know how I got here but I'm going to thoroughly enjoy myself in this world and correct this novel to the ending Eclis deserves!

- lineheartRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just an all around good story. That was an enjoyable read. I look forward to more updates.
The characters are written well for the most part. There are moments when things seem a bit off. Also early on the author could go into more detail and slow things down some to give yome for development. But overall non of this massively detracts from the experience. - ValentineNRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a little more romance heavy than what we usually see for this kind of webnovel, but I like it.
The MC gets a lot of screen time and the duke by contrast not a lot of it. Just enough to make his direction clear, but not much else.
What's worse is that their interactions are more visual than verbal. If there's chemistry between the two, a little more banter probably would've helped.
The rest of the time is spent on world building, which is done VERY well, I can easily visualize everything described from cities to characters to airships.
Anyway, it's just a few short chapters so far, yet I like what I see very much. - VyktorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like the story, it's fun, it really feel interesting and alive, the MC may know the story she read but she still is a normal humans (don't think she will suddenly go search for all the cheat artefacts from the novel she read to become an OPMC, but it could be fun and interesting if she gain some power 😋).
I really recommend you this story, I'm hooked since I discovered it a few days ago. - Dream ElixirRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read this a month ago, and still haven't gotten over my devastation that it is on long standing hiatus.
My thoughts regularly go back to this story, wondering what was going to happen.
Being that it has been so long since I read it, I can't comment on the spelling or grammar. However the world and characters have stuck with me with an intensity that I have rarely felt.
Well done on creating such a well balanced story with interactions that still keeps me pining for more.
I shall keep my fingers crossed for the future of this journey. - MatulidusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has it all, a nice plot, good characters, a beautiful setting combined with engaging story telling. In short: I loved it very much and binged it in a matter of two days. Sad to see it with the HIATUS tag. Now the waiting for a hopefully a continuation begins.
- JBRhorstRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0To the point I have read it, this is an adorable and wholesome story that makes me feel good inside. It also has enough dark undertones to keep it interesting enough for me to want to read a lot more of it.
The author's style is probably the best part of this story. Everything is well-blended together in a mildly tense romantic sometimes-comedic story with some action seeped into the brew.
The Grammar needs a lot of work and there are a lot of points where the author just needs to do some basic editting. It isn't bad enough to be truly distracting, but it is definitely noticeable.
The Story itself is wonderful. I might even up the stars I give it in the future after some more chapters have been published to flesh it out.
The Characters are also great but the suffer a little bit due to the isekai nature of the story. None of them are particularly bad, but because the MC already 'knows' everything about a lot of them, some of the other leads seem less strong than the supporting characters.
Will be coming back more. Biggest complaint is that I didn't have more to binge. Gimme more or we will fight. - librarysmilesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a well-written prologue to an intrigue. This story went into hiatus near the beginning of the real story as she does her best to mask her emotions.
After hiatus, will Eclis see through her mask or will he mistakenly have a broken heart once more? Also, will she forget she's wearing a mask and fall into the imperial honey trap?
I'm going to pretend that after the last chapter, Eclis manages to get them both out of the palace, to their own private happily ever after. The End. - JeffreyXIIIRoyal Road★★★ 3.0As far as i'm concerned, there's two issues early on.
1. Early on in the story, they escaped a prison. As soon as they reached an inn, the male lead bought her clothes, food and of course, the night at the inn....with what money? Did he rob the jailors? Did he, despite that he supposedly didn't like using mind control, use it on people?
2. This is my biggest gripe, the origin of her feelings of love. This is a romance focused story (at least so far), she has developed feelings instantly for a character that, by her own admission wasn't mentally all there in the story she originally met him on, was mostly attracted to him because of his apperance and almost immediately changed the course of the story, making some of what she knew about him irrelevant. What I'm trying to get at is that her original feelings feel like nonsense to me. She is aware or at least told more than once that the bond she has with the male mc will become deeper/stronger with time. And yet, she claims that she still wants to go home but has put no thought on how the bond made by someone with a possessive personality will affect her decisions, if they even are her decisions at the end...
