- BrickRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I swear I know nothing about this. You must believe me. Really, truly I knew nothing. Where would I even store the knowledge, in the aggregate? Besides I'm clearly a free range brick and this it about a city brick. Completely different don't you know. You'll never catch me in this situation.
- CM GeorgievRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So far I am finding this story entertaining and baffling! It is such a twist on reincarnation and it's got great humor behind it! This is my first transmigrator story, and it's a great foot to start off on. I love everything about the concept and the execution is so clever.
Style: There are a few weird paragraph breaks and missed formatting issues. These pull me out of the story a bit. The writing style is hilarious and enjoyable, however! The chapters are a short, easy read. I can get through one or two in between doing other things.
Grammar: There are a few grammatical errors and misused tenses. There is also a shift from first person to third on a few occasions. Though this may be intentional it did catch me off guard.
Story: This is highly creative, very subversive, and overall, the story has some interesting elements woven in. The description of all of the rising and falling governments that Brick has seen had me laughing!
Characters: Brick is straight up hilarious. He is egotistical, overly confident, and incredibly naïve. His personality makes for a very fun read. I am super confused about the family he comes to, who is who and such, but I think that is because Brick doesn't really know either. Either way, the confusion feels right. - JMMatheisRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This opinion is based on the simple fact that I read the prologue and I couldn't stop until I finished the second chapter.
The premise is so unbelievably different, I truthfully did not know what to do, I was stuck in an air of utter disbelief while I read the ridiculousness that was unfolding before me. It is fun and wild.
Grammar needs a little work. But this story, just like its squishy brick with arms MC, is literally in its infancy!
I will check back in in a few chapters time to see how this inspired craziness is unfolding...
Update Ch61: That grammar and punctuation is really improving! Awesome! - PakkoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I'm a brick starts off strong so far as a quirky reincarnation fantasy but this time the old body was that of a sentient brick. The old brick is both smart and dumb at the same time and that causes hijinks. A lot of the exterior plot revolves around political stuff while brick is growing up. The humor is childish but fun. The characters are sometimes unique but some of them don't feel fleshed out yet. If you are looking for something to read and what to kill some time then this book would be great to do it with.
- Ray2024Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story begins following the titular brick after his reincarnation into a humanoid but as it unfolds we get to see from their point of view the effect those around have on him and his lands..
The individual chapters are well written and where there are contradictionsthey are explained as the story progresses - for example a book claims one statement, with a disclaimer that some of it is speculation only for a character who lives in the place discussed to correct the statement to reflect both facts and their opinions. - T.K._ParadoxRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The book is a straight foward with you from the get go. Am I expecting the 'Illaid' from this. No, but it is a fun read that feels like a genuinely fun piece of work. Grammar could be better, but that is the only problem I can find with the story thus far.
I hope the author has as much fun writing this story as I had reading it so far.
Sincerely, T.K Paradox - StgBriaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It's a weird, off the wall absurdist story that seems to take the actual plot elements seriously.
There's a brick and he(?) becomes a baby. Except everyone else knows that they were a brick. And he gets skills and mana and the web novel trapsings you're used to.
Some of it is clever. There's that wink wink quality where the author knows what they are doing and very much revels in the absurdity of it. Which is odd when it takes the plot reletively seriously.
I'm thinking Pratchett wher eyou have absurdists stories that are just a loose structure to hang jokes and insightful commentary on. That isn't there, but the story is. It's very strange and it's a quirky little oddity.
I think the author is on the cupse of finding a perfect tone and something very smart, but it's not quite there.
And of course I didn't read THAT far, it's entirely possible that it's a matter of novelty and that will wear off after a bit. Who knows? It's certainly interesting and fans of the lighter web novels should probably check this out and explain to me why it does/ doesn't work. - vtech1855Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Review update: the author explained a lot of what was confusing to me, so many of my questions have been cleared up.
Style: The author has done a good job of describing the settings of wherever a scene is occuring, but some more could be added to get a better picture of the characters. The author is very direct with their writing, and it is easy to read through. There haven't been any sections of wondering about hypothetical future scenarios and what-ifs, which is nice.
Story: The pacing is a little too quick, and many scenes seem to be cut out. The story also jumps around between many perspectives, and the author does a good job of making it clear when there is a switch, but I'm not a fan of the growing number because we don't get much backstory or understanding from them, just a few paragraphs when they're first introduced.
Not much to say about the plot as not much has happened at this point.
Also,
this is a story about a world in which children from as young as 3 months old can communicate and think as teenagers and adults, and have magic powers, which, personally, is not a genre that I'm a fan of. I'm not knocking it for that, I just want to be clear why I'm not continuing with it.
Grammar: Proof reading is needed before publishing. Many times there aren't spaces after periods, and there are the occasional spelling mistakes. The typos with the periods are more distracting than any spelling mistake. The author's writing skills are developing, and I believe that the quality of the writing will only get better from here.
Character: The characters so far seem like they will grow over time, but the writing style kind of jumps around, so the reader isn't privy to a lot of info about their motivation and history. For a one time POV that can be enough, but for a long-term character I think this reader needs more. - TsorovRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Reincarnation story with a unique MC.
From the start the story is interesting, the MC has a unique background and all the characters have at least a few norable characteristics. Grammar is good, with few mistakes. The RPG system is not completly revolutionary but has some unique characteristics. I only see problems coming, when the numbers climb higher and higher, but well we will see thet in the future, now there is no such problem. The only problem I see is the fast changing POV. But that's only my own opinion.
Overall a very good novel - F-rank HumanRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5It's an alright story, without any particularly strong flaws or outstanding features.
With that out of the way, I'll go and list the things I'm dissatisfied with.
The title of this story would probably have one expect the main character to not just suddenly embrace their identity as a human.
Yeah, fat chance. The main character just goes "oh, I'm a baby now? Cool" and we no longer see any significant consequences to the character having been a brick apart from them lacking some common sense.
The summary would have you believe that the main character would be an ignorant one, struggling to destroy their idealistic society while not even knowing how to tie their shoe yet... Nope. The main character gets quite powerful quite quickly and quite as quickly mends the gaps in his knowledge.
The characters aren't exactly one dimensional, but the "bad" ones are always dumb and incompetent, being easily handled by the "good" ones.
Speaking of characters, there are too many and some who seem to be initially important quickly disappear after they appear (which, I admit, is maybe an undeserved criticisism on my part and the author will use them again someday? But as of the chapter I've read the story to, this point stands)
Now, it wouldn't be fair if I just listed the bad things, so here are the good parts
The scale of the world is large and not generic.
The story itself isn't boring and not repetitive
I give this story a 3.5, though it probably deserves a whole 4 stars. I took half a star for the disappointed expectations the story set for me with its title.
