- BlareRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Now that the author changed the book's cover, let's see how this story turns out. In the previous review, I said earlier that the story is really damaged by the poor book cover, but since that gets out of the way, let's get to the real part of the review.
Jake adventure in space is merely the beginning of the story and I keep reading until the interaction with the... Slime lady. Like, man, this book is filled with surprise. I thought he died, the author made a plot twist that he was actually being kidnapped. Then, he got kidnapped, and this world has magic, holy moly, I'm pleasantly surprised by the author's way of conveying it's thoughts.
I don't see any disturbance in the grammar sector, and this is not an LITRPG, yet, I feel captivated to continue riding it. Like, power armor and magic? Sign me in baby. This book has everything in the sector of blending magic with sci-fi aspect and I think Orangeowl nailed it perfectly without any flaw that I could think of whatsoever.
Jake is a realistic character, not to say that I'll like him, but his chagrin is pretty much what would you expect from a fast food worker, he's not the strongest, yet, but he's great. Overall, the only minus is what I said in the review. - Wizardly DudeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you've ever been forced to work a low paying job with coworkers you couldn't stand, this is the story for you. And if you haven't, you'll probably enjoy it anyway!
Story: A fast food worker filled with hatred toward the world getting kidnapped by aliens is already a fun way to start a story. But then that poor sap discovers his cell mate is a magic wielding slime ball that happens to be a proud noble? Consider me interested right off the bat.
Style: I like the choice to swap between Jake, Arlain, and the Aliens' perspectives as it gives us a better look into all the different moving parts of the story. I think it's an excellent choice for a space opera/kingdom builder, and hope it continues.
Grammar: Easy to read, no glaring issues here. There are a handful of punctuation/capitalization areas I noticed, but that's a super quick fix and none detract from the story itself.
Character: Alright this is where the magic happens in my opinion. To start, the author's portrayal of Jake during his work shift, lamenting about his life and his woes, felt very organic. Then we have the sequence of Jake getting kidnapped by the aliens, where the author captured the exact way a random, ordinary person would react to getting abducted. I laughed at the way the aliens first interacted with him aboard the ship, and then again at Arlain Felfiantaria Duraim Herseim the Great's first dialogue. I think making her an esteemed noble was a genius idea, and has huge potential for their dialogue.
All in all I like what I've read so far, and I think the story has huge potential. It's got comedy, violence, and feels like it's sowing the seeds for something big. - fakerdakerhahahaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel, ladies and gentlemen, wonderfully depicts why aliens should never mess around with humans, especially overworked fast-food employees. After all, when someone is already at rock bottom, then the only way to go is up, up and to infinity!
Style and Story:
Have you ever watched those strange sci-fi movies in the 90s like Star Trek, where humans have fun and wacky adventures in space? If you want to relive said nostalgic experience, then the tale presented in this story is just the right tool for the job, for it can only be described as an odd and captivating cocktail of grimness, adventure as well as mystery – similar to the vast cosmos full of dangers our character has to navigate and survive from
Grammar:
The grammar is clear and concise. That said, I notice that the author has a habit of not putting periods at the end of characters’ dialogs or before someone’s dialog begins. It seems to be an artistic choice so I won’t linger too much on this part
Character:
Jake, young yet already so very much done with his life, suddenly finds himself kidnapped to another world. Unfortunately for him, instead of the usual isekai package, he finds himself captive of nasty space pirates. From that point on, Jake quickly proves why humans – especially overworked wage slaves like himself – should never be messed with as he teams up with an unexpected ally and proceeds to spread chaos all over space. Hilarity ensues, for even though Jake comes from the bottom of the barrel on Earth, his ambitions to thrive and reach for the sky should never be underestimated
Another character who can be considered the deuteragonist of this novel is Arlain the slime. Or, as said blob insists, Arlain Felfiantaria Duraim Herseim the Great – bestest blob buddy ever! Even though Arlain looks down on Jake – like 99% of aliens are wont to do – both soon develop a strange camaraderie as they scheme and fight they way to freedom. The interactions between them bring out a lot of hidden depth that read
