- CatVIRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Edit 9-7-20 : Great Story, Atrocious Grammar few chapters in -> Grammar is WAAAY better after the edits but now the story has lost some of its earlier charm. But still a good one.
The review is outdated and should be treated as such.
So I am deleting the past review as the stuff said their no longer applies. Will make a new one if I feel like it. But for now, I will just enjoy the book. - LeserRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really Great conept focused on survival and crafting and shifting slowly too leadership and kingdom building
Grammar is readable but gets better the first 40 Chapters need editing.
The research that went into it is really incredible a lot of stuff is logical and there are always explanations why you are whit the Character as he makes the decision.
Im no expert survivalist and a lot of the survival stuff could be wrong but it reads great and has internal logic and the author gets better first chapters are good but not great it gets better the Characters find themselves i really like the Dwarfs they start as children and dtard there journey to dwarfhut first the food then the booze and metal and hopefully to the great underground cities
The main characters are becoming better only the other 8 starting dwarfs are a little bland and due to the naming a littel confusing
Overall a great story with a lot of potential - knifexthriveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Give it a try i know you won't regret it.
Amazing world building.
great story telling.
no information dumps, no aspect that will leave you uninterested. - Mirrius RusticulusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Absolute gem of a story. It's a bit rough around the edges: grammar, slow start, uneddited last chapters, but man, after first dozen of chapters it picks up the pace, seemlessly weaves together several gendres and works with many tropes in novel ways. The start may be off-putting for readers unfamiliar with the Dwarf fortress since they won't get some subtle jokes, but bear with it and the diverse cast of different characters with their own motivations will suck you in.
In my opinion the start of the story could use those interesting flashbacks we see later on. Something that would hook new readers in. More drama or mystery might help. Also I would love to see Urist interacting with other civs more.
Anyways, I loved the story, it just scratched the itch for a multigenre I was looking for and I just binge-read it in two days. I look forward for the new chapters - KorenTiquarRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is a story about a dwarven civilization starting from the ground up. Don't make assumptions just because they're dwarves it will all be mining and forging magical mithril axes of elf splitting. No this story has well researched primitive survival skill usage and low tech civilization building. And by royal road standards the grammar is excellent. You might find errors, but the story still comes across clearly. But seriously, I hope there is a magical axe of elf splitting in the future.
- protocenturianRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0(current chapter D11-P2)
I love the way this story has been going so far, while the grammer needs a little work i personally think itll get better with time. The story has great pacing and the characters so far are built up great, gives the feeling of being game like without drowning it in LitRPG tropes so prevalent on the site. - TywamiRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0So, I'm a huge fan of dwarf fortress and immediatly had to click on this story, the urist name drew me in but a good story kept me coming back
- William BergqvistRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0First off I will keep on reading the story.
But I have only one problem with the story and will probably make me drop the storyin the future
This is a story that started as tribe building and crafting and gone to tribe building and "cultivation" or litprg.
My problem with this is that all stories, including this one, with both these elements become shallow.
The cultivation do not get explored enough and get enough attention.
While tribe building or kingdom building do not get enough attention and honestly become pointless. I mean what is the point with smith's if you get the powerful weapons from challenges or what is the point with soldiers if you are one man army from a power perspective. I mean what is the point of building a kingdom if it hardly give you power, not considering the system as that is bland way to give meaning to it. - XoShadowoXRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Good story. Good premise. Intresting plot. Well researched. Creative. Not bad language use.
only fault is flat characters (stereo types) (somewhat unrealistic thought processes / conversations.) but that is not the main draw to the story so it's still more than readable. - Edelweiss-ExpRoyal Road★★ 1.5Could be interesting read if author did not continiously introduce new characters, that have almost no screentime, at day 12 it gets really irritating because of new names that add nothing of worth to novel.
To add insult to injury author uses the wrong name couple of times too, what a mess
