Description

Donovan had never expected to be outsmarted by a Bela Lugosi wannabe, but here the elder vampire found himself decades later from a nasty trap and his territory split amongst other monsters and traitors. The only thing tempering his rage is a newfound interest in the mortal who unwittingly brought him back to the waking world.

starts off from different points of view and parties take their sweet time meeting up - so it is definitely a slower paced story. instead of immediate high stakes action or even hint about who the central love interests are supposed to be, those starting chapters are spent setting up the team dynamics, business associates and the world. the human hunters go around whacking all the weird critters in a sufficiently expositional manner. all the little, unassuming details come together beautifully around chapter 5. i enjoyed the reveals, they were worth the wait.
the setup seems to be a typical vampire taking interest in a human situation, but! their encounter and interactions didn't go down as i figured it would, so that deviation from formula (at least for right now) was a delight as well x)
that said, their current official business interplay leaves me wanting for more :/ i wish for more dubious interactions between fledgeling couple!! :<< though i have no doubt they are coming. i merely am on the impatient side :D can’t wait for things to go terribly awry and both sides to go savage on each other’s asses – though author has surprised me before, so who knows what comes next? x)
