- theLegionWithinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0read up to chapter 18 at the time of the review.
I liked the fact that everyone is clueless and the system is unhelpful in a dumb computer way, it's a nice chage from some of the other system stories.
another thing I liked is that it's based in Ireland - first time I've seen a system/apolcalypse story based there. it must be really weird having to fight slugs without the large amounts of weapons that us Americans are used to having at hand. might be a bad thing for the MC and his group though lol.
story is well edited, no glaringly obvious misspellings or punctuation issues, though many of the Irish names and regional terms are odd to my eyes.
fun story so far. - LordOfPearsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0(I give this my Litrpg my seal of thumbs up) Read this if you want:
+Kind of a slow jog on the 1st book.
+Solid MC (He has his own ways to cope, he socializes. Has a job. As system scale and risks, scope escalates) No 1 minute mental breakdown and then grinding mobs forever.
+Solid characters
+Drama
+Litrpg system that deviates from the mainstream ones.
+Things develop faster in book 2 which is nice.
+Small towns don't shit the fan immediately but incidents start racking up.
+A threat that gets stronger, faster, Better!
+Foreshadowing...
Cons:
-Some typos errors here and there so be a dear, and point them out to the author.
-Squad is always there for major events, which I feel they're a little tiny bit too much in the spotlights.
- (jk) Heinz never gets paid for his job. - StormChaserRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Only a few chapters in but really liking this one. Well worth a read. Grammar is good, story is gripping and the main character thus far is engaging. The author is also very good at fleshing out some of the incidental side characters in only a few words and maing the whole thing seem so much more real.
- iTzMMVRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0OVERALL OPINION
I don't understand why this story isn't more popular, it takes the standard LitRPG Apocalypse trope and does it in the most realistic way I have seen so far. The world truly feels like our own and not an imitation of it, the characters feel real and they have depth, the system is relatively simple but shows growing complexity.
The story has really strong points like it's characters, interactions, the plot and the system, while also being solid all around and having a respectable writing. Honestly, this is one of the best stories I have read on this site in my opinion. Although the story still has long way to go before it ends, and things could change untill then, I'm hopefull this story will mantain this level of quality.
STYLE SCORE
This story has the standard LitRPG Apocalypse trope, but has it's own original spin, it is somewhat slow paced, the writing is straightfoward and easy to understand while the amount of descriptions is just right. The thematic focus so far is on Contemporary Adventure with a pinch of Drama inside a LitRPG Apocalypse setting.
GRAMMAR SCORE
The grammar is good.
STORY SCORE
The story is somewhat slow paced, specially at the first few chapters with the introduction of the system and then the team Heinz is assigned to. However, soon after the first few setup chapters the story starts to hook you in as you discover alongside Heinz how the swarm, the system, and the walls work, and then it hooks you in even further as conflict starts happening among the people and new system functionalities are unlocked.
CHARACTER SCORE
The characters feel real and they have depth. the people act, think and talk in ways consistent with their backgrounds. This is one of the stories strongest suits.
This isn't another one of those generic stories where there is an overpowered, cold and ruthless MC who has read dozens of novels that give him a knowlege advantage, or one of those where there is a luky, dense hero who bumbles his way to godhood follo - jadecriminalRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The setting and developement was enjoyable/refreeshing to read due to where the plot is set.
The combat was readable and easy to follow, even though I was a bit tired when I was reading it.
The people read like people, and aren't just cardboard cutouts.
It's early to tell where it is going to end up but so far I am looking forward to finding out.
The author is making it about more than just grinding. IE about the people.
Unfortunately a large section of "the people" (at least ones shown to be doing things) are failing to adapt and realise the situation. A lot are acting like scared and lazy twats. And would be politicians are gathering and pulling stupid shit.
Those parts are frustrating to read about, but are so far in the minotiry. It all depends on where things develop. - kingcaloobRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a solid story with a very slow pace. At 425 pages we are at day 11 or 12 post system integration.
The leveling and stats in the story don't seem to have an impact on the fights against the apocalypse monsters. The main character has almost double the strength he started with but I haven't noticed any change in fighting or even using that strength in his daily setting. In addition several of the abilities haven't been explored in detail. One of the five classes is focused on "channeling" instead of strength or agility and in 425 pages the reader has not learned what that ability does or why there is a class focused on it.
The writing is solid and I didnt see any plot holes on a quick read through but the pacing could be cleaned up. - TorenRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Hoping this continues. I like the setup for the start of the system...do wish I came upon it about 30(or 100+) chapters more into it though.
I would recommend recruiting an artist friend to take care of the map drawing for you :)
Enjoying the choice of the new locale for where we're focusing on this apocalypse; I am hoping to get at least a glimpse of how the wider world is doing at some point. - LillaethRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Its a smooth and nice read, and mistakes gets fixed often!
You get a view into how selfish people can get once their comfort gets interrupted by something like an apocolypse. Also how having just a few items deemed "prepper" ish would have saved a lot of lives.
This is not a series of a strong MC who does everything on their own and gain superpowers, its more of watching someone struggle with every fiber in their being to get just a little further ahead. Really looking forward to what more will happen.
Its slow paced, days stretched out over a lot of chapters, but should you not expect a lot of flashy things to happen, this will be for you. The author is also listening to all edit suggestions in a swift manner.
