Description
A Reincarnation Sci-Fi Progression LITRPG
Humanity lay dying in the cradle of their birth. A victim of their own hubris.
The age was set to be a utopia. War among humanity was a footnote in history, having united under one purpose with a singular goal: reach the stars and explore the vast cosmos that made up the universe.
In their unmitigated hurry to achieve perfection, mankind created fantastically advanced technologies. They pushed the boundaries of what was known and explored the stars, only to find more and more questions and fewer answers.
Follow the story of Ray Finnigan. Brought back into the world for a purpose that was not his own, by beings who sought to utilize him for their own purposes, this survivor seeks to restore humanity and return the Earth to its rightful inheritors.
HEX is a story of the undead, Systems gone haywire, and a Nemesis that just doesn’t seem to die no matter how many times he kills it. Physics and common sense don’t apply when the rules of reality are governed by those who seek only to manipulate the results. Results that only kill those who achieve them.
But the restless sacrifices for such ambitions roll in their graves and such secrets won’t stay buried for long.
Neither will the bodies.

- darkocean (J. L. S.)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is really well written with each character so far being lively and distinct from the other. The action and forward motion if the pacing so far are on point. And, zombies, what's not to like?
I wanted to leave a quick review comment for now and will come back later to do a more detailed one after I've read a few chapters. - Smilejb4444Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thought the story was unique. A bit of plot holes and armor here and there but otherwise great to fill that zombie lit rpg itch with plenty more.
I secretly want spider lady to make a fan fic of her and ray only for it to get discovered 😁 - TelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a Zombie Survival story instigated by idiot Space Chickens......Need I say more?
The overall story is good, borderline great, but fair warning you will be calling BS for a couple arcs if you try to take it seriously. Plot holes become threads, and end up weaving the rug that is pulled out from under you later?
It's inspired deadly serious lunacy and I have no idea where it is going.....but I want to find out!
Best if you enjoy zombies, and can embrace the statement "It's a zombie apocalypse, live a little!". - bnazRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Probably about a year ago I was posting on Reddit looking for a zombie litrpg. This is what I had in mind. It has levels, a system, base building, fantastical creatures and I'm missing something, oh yeah Freaking Zombies.
it's also well written with quality foundations for the story with a clear long term goal and plenty of short term objectives mixed in. It reminds be a lot of the really good early litrpgs, but except with zombies. - AnehaliaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0ACK! This story definitely is one to make you scared of shadows and the dark! The writing is fast paced and no one's life is sacred. Expect lots of close calls with a zombie infested world. Expect to be freaked out. This is good zombie horror mixed into a litrpg.
At 50,000 plus words into the story, I now feel I am ready to turn this into an advanced review (this started out as basic review and I've been updating it as the story progresses).
This story is a really fun read. Well written action that's easy to follow and puts vivid imagery in your mind. Heart racing moments and terrifying monsters. A mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and zombie horror.
Whenever things seem to be too good to be true or going well, the story hits another sweep of horrifying events and fight for the MC's life senarios.
This wild ride will make you want to not stop reading. It will hold your attention, suck you in, and read all the way to the current chapter where the next button seems to be broken.
Style: I'm having fun reading this. The style is engagin and makes me eager to read more.
Grammar: A number of tiny errors the author is constantly fixing as they are being pointed out, so I bet that by the time you read the story, they will be gone (or at least mostly gone and those that are left you can point out to get fixed).
Story: Oh boy is this a wild ride.
Character: Fun. believable MC with a cast of fun side characters who seem to have their own motivations.
Warning: This story will terrify your poor heartstrings.
If after reading all this you are still on the fence, get yourself off the fence and just read the story to at least the first interlude. - DragonOfRochesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm not a huge fan of western zombie stories (aside from comedic ones), because I feel like they lack hope. That's a big thing for me. This story, while dark and dangerous, does give us hope for a change to the apocalypse.
Th author beautifully handled the prose. It's in third person and well done. When I listened to it through my text to speed program I didn't get any strange breaks the took me out of the story.
I found no grammar errors while listening. All the right words were used. And it would make an amazing audiobook if it isn't one already. I have not checked.
This story follows two aliens in their quest to take over the world. But not really. It follows Ray, a pilot who was resurrected along with a handful of others, to find Earth in ruins from a zombie apocalypse. He has access to a system that helps him increase his physicality and fight said zombies as he attempts to activate a node that could save humanity. Or so he's told.
The character is likable even in a rough situation. He's not dripping with personality, but he he has compassion, likes dogs, gets the job done, and that's enough. - Evelyn AdelbergRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story follows our typical video game nerd - I mean space station pilot - as he finds himself tasked with saving the Earth from a zombie invasion. Or so he thinks at least.
The main character, Ray, is your run-of-the-mill competent but not overpowered MC who gets the job done and avoids getting killed in the process. I did appreciate him getting into danger, and on occasion, needing to be saved, while at the same time being able to handle himself when needed. This might sound like a strange remark, but I do feel like LitRPG protagonists, especially when they are low-level, fall either into the overpowered or 'deus ex machina out of everything' category. Ray isn't like that, and it does add a layer of realism to him.
The other main characters are Vell and Nell, two space chickens with an agenda of their own. Without spoiling what happens in the first chapters, I do think the way they are portrayed and what they represent adds an interesting layer of conflict.
Especially considering that Ray is unaware of the threat that they pose, or even that they should be considered a threat.
The style and grammar are pretty good. But don't take it from me, take it from the amazon reviews of this author's other books. I really like the prose and how it draws the reader in, especially during more descpriptive scenes. I think what it does best is present a certain ambiance, an atmospheric feel. The closest paralell to that would be how the music in a video game seamlessly changes when you enter a new area or are about to start a boss fight.
Which brings me to my next point; the story, and some of its mechanics. If you've played enough zombie games, then you'll be right in your element. Ray might not know what the big fat zombie with a big mouth does, or why this skinless zombie is running around in the sun, but you as the reader will make an educated guess that the former spits acid and the latter is a stalker. There are also original zombies/undead creatures that don't always d - GlassSpidersRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hex has been interesting so far and an enjoyable read. It hits the zombie apocalypse themes to start but quickly evolves into its own unique blend of system apocalypse, base/civilization building and space politics. The characters while not all likable are understandable. Overall I've enjoyed reading Hex and look forward to more of it.
- Hisstory HavenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0"Hex" slides the reader smack dab into the precarious front seat of a rollicking roller coaster, not in an amusement park, but into a world gone wild with zombies. Fasten your seatbelt and brace yourself for a rocky ride.
Story - With the globe overrun with zombies, aliens resurrect selected humans to save humanity or perhaps not. Mystery abounds everywhere. Author starts the story through the eyes of Nell and Vell, two scheming creatures observing, and plotting to accelerate, the downfall of planet Earth, which they also refer to as Dirt. The discussion of "Dirt" and "Earth" is hysterical, plus the line, "Politicians are known for devouring their opponents and constituents equally." Is this fiction or is this prophetic? Do entities from afar, gazing down on this planet, view us as these nefarious creatures do?"
Style – Author’s flowing descriptions work well to delineate an apocalyptic world on the brink of the extinction of humanity. Passages prove potent that provide an empathic bond between the reader and the main character, such as, “Then he froze. The last hour or so had been a whirlwind of information, events, and revelations. And it suddenly began to sink into him a little bit. The reaction was mild at first, his hands began to tremble. Then to shake. His pupils dilated, and he curled up into himself, knees flat on the rough pavement as his whole body shook in silent sobs."
Character - Unique problem-solving by the ingenious main character, level-headed Ray, whose clever mind works rapid pace to keep him alive. Dynamics betwixt Ray and another character Josephine are replete with intrigue; much written between the lines, plus good synchrony between them as they deftly defy the massive forces pitted against them.
Grammar - Well-done prose.
Overall - An enjoyable tale with a poignant statement by the author applicable to all of life - "The entire escapade and crossing had taken less than two full minutes, yet would stay with Ray for life. Experiences were oft - Rohan OttoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Yes, the review title is in reference to the song Zombified! by Falling In Reverse, which stuck in my head as I read this. To be fair, that is a very very good thing.
The human MC and a few others get resurrected from the dead by aliens to save humanity on their zombie-ridden Earth. What a setup!
STYLE: The writing style is fluent and clear, making it very easy to dive in and get hooked. The suspense and danger ooze from the pacing and descriptive choices.
STORY: As suspected from a zombie apocalypse, the style is dark and serious. This does not stop the characters to counter that with witty dialogue and mint humor, balancing the scales. The MCs are beautifully set up in a harsh zombie survival LITrpg scenario. I'm very interested in what is to come, as I already have a few questions begging for revelation.
GRAMMAR: I encountered very few mistakes, though some polish will make this piece even better. It is obvious that the writer has had some experience behind his pen.
CHARACTER: The characters are given depth and backstory through internal dialogue and conversations with other characters. The MC seems highly intelligent, yet still flawed, which is great writing. You end up formulating survival plans with him while reading, as you already become invested in this character early. Not a lot of other characters have been introduced up to where I have read(chapter 4), but those that have, have been given proper thought and distinct personalities.
OVERALL: Though this story is still infant, I'm patiently and eagerly awaiting what is to come. Should you read this? I have to say yes, with a big Y-E-S!
